The Father
The episode delves into the multifaceted role of fathers, who must embody different archetypes and play various roles. Fathers are seen as disciplinarians who instill certain values in their children through their actions. They must be stoic figures, even if they are not always easy to get along with, as they provide external discipline that ultimately leads to internal discipline in their children. The episode also explores different types of fathers, such as the perfect father, an icon in the community, and the passive father, who leaves decision-making to the mother. It is crucial for children to learn from their fathers and integrate what they have learned from them. Fathers are encouraged to reflect on what their own fathers left them and how it has impacted their lives. The episode emphasizes the need for fathers to be emotionally mature and present in their children's lives, even if challenging.
The episode also discusses the lack of traditional rites of passage in modern society, which contributes to the emotional immaturity of teenagers. In the past, fathers would engage in physical labor that served as a rite of passage for their sons, but modern fathers often worked in intellectual fields, making it harder for sons to see them as role models. The hosts stress the importance of fathers doing meaningful work and being seen as sons themselves, as this can foster emotional maturity in their children. They also highlight the significance of mentors for children, particularly those from single-parent households. Fathers need to be present and nurturing in their children's lives, especially during the ages of eight, nine, and ten, when children seek guidance and support. The episode underscores the importance of fathers being engaged in their children's lives and the role traditional rites of passage can play in fostering emotional maturity.

In the tenth episode of Season 8 (Coming-of-Ages) Kyle is joined by musician Ben Childs and filmmaker Jordan Berry to discuss the fragmentation of time, culture, and gender that defines the multi-faceted coming-of-age survival tale set against the brutality of the outback and the impact of colonialism in Nicolas Roeg's experimentally crafted Walkabout (1971).

Don't Look Now by Nicolas Roeg
The “Cinephile Cuties” are ready to contact their dead children through a medium. That’s because they’re chatting about Nicolas Roeg’s ‘Don't Look Now.’ In this episode, Patrick and Casey are shocked to find the complete nude scene from this film posted on Wikipedia. Plus, the boys put this film through their proprietary Fartsy Test. And Patrick recommends a drink pairing.

The Modern Crone: Season 1: The 21st Century Shaman: Julian Silburn
On today’s episode I am joined by Julian Silburn. Julian has devoted his life to Sound Healing and is known for his work nationally and internationally. Julian has learned Yidaki, (Didgeridoo) directly from Aboriginal people around Australia including Arnhem Land (where the Yidaki originates), and has been playing for 29 years. He mainly uses the instrument in its traditional way for meditation ,sound therapy and for ceremony. In this fascinating episode we chat about Julian’s life journey from the wilds of South Africa, to Western Australia and into Arnhem Land, an historical and mythical region of the Northern Territory of Australia. Following the visions he was receiving in his dream space, and the spiritual reverberation of the Yidaki, Julian lived with the elders and original custodians of the Didgeridoo and was initiated into its medicine. Join us for an exploration of the true nature of dreaming, the Australian Aboriginal shamanic view of sound and healing, the interconnectedness of life, the importance of deep listening and much more. And as a special treat, Julian plays out this episode with his Didgeridoo and a ‘song’ given to him directly from Mother Earth.
Julian offers in-person and zoom sound healing sessions for individuals or groups which include recordings of the sessions.

To Wander with Intention w/ Bartle
In this episode I speak with my friend Bartle about her experiences on walkabouts, leading animal processing camps, running, and much more. Bartle's life is an inspiration to me and many others. If you've ever thought about going on long term minimalist, wilderness living experiences, this will definitely appeal to you. I recorded this one a few months back, and Bartle is about to head out on another walkabout (although she decided recently to wait another year to get more funds to do the really big one she mentioned at the end of the interview). So I figured I'd better get this posted to the world before she takes off again.

PLEASE accept my (Lisa) apologies for the sniffling. I was a bit sick and did not realize how incredibly annoying it would sound on the recording.
