    Welcome back to Inside Curling! In the House this week is Paivi Liitela, Manager of the Leaside Curling Club in Toronto. In "What’s Happening Around the Curling World?," an event held this weekend involved a few of the top teams so we take a look at the results of the Red Deer Classic. Next, the European Championships are underway in Aberdeen, Scotland and we check-in to see what is happening with that event. Warren made some comments last week about the provision of an FM signal to the crowd at Season of Champions events and the guys give an update on that situation and they also review who the top teams are in the world as of November 20th. In "Hot Rocks Topics," we tackle a couple of listener emails and in "What are You Hearing?" Kevin meets a Canadian at the world mixed doubles championship last year in Korea who lives there and we receive an interesting note from
    Richard Bates.

In What’s Happening Around the Curling World  (32:43), The KIOTI Nationals were completed on Sunday and we look back at what happened on the final day.  Sadly, another elite curler from years gone by has passed away and we look back on his life in curling. The next big event on the calendar is the European Championship starting Saturday in Aberdeen, Scotland. We take a look at the field and what the event means.  Lastly, we've heard from the Canadian Stick Curling Association about the creation of some new events and in Hot Rocks Topics (45:34), we get to your emails!

In this week's 'Hot Rock Topics', they continue their conversation about some of the issues at the Pan Continental Cup, and Warren reads a letter on the subject from Graham Prouse, one of the VP’s of the WCF. To wrap up, the guys discuss an email they received about ’Sturling’, a lesser known curling offshoot that is growing in popularity, and it seems to be a match made in heaven for Jim (52:00).

    Modernizing The Game ft. Hugh Millikin

    Kevin starts off with a general update on the Men’s World Championship in Ottawa (3:00) and some interesting things happening with the ice (5:30). Warren explains the playoff system being used at the Worlds (6:50). The guys make their predictions for the Final Six at the Worlds (9:00), and Warren updates us on the Canadian Juniors where the Alberta girls made history (10:15) and then discusses the new inductees into the Curling Canada Hall of Fame (12:55).

    After the break, Vice President of the WCF, Hugh Millikin joins the guys for ‘In the House’ (20:25). He tells the story of how he ended up a Canadian curler in Australia (20:50) the growth of curling worldwide (22:55). Kevin asks where and how they are going to handle the new events that are coming with this growth all over the world (24:45). Warren asks if there are plans to modify the tournament and playoff structures to accommodate the large amount of countries getting involved (30:00) and the future plans for mixed doubles (34:45). Hugh talks about the transition to streaming and the new ways of broadcasting the sport (40:15).

    Afterwards, the guys reflect on the interview and further discuss new ways to update and modernize the sport and fill the downtimes during games (44:05). They answer a question from the mailbag about scoring, percentages and timeout rules (46:30).     The guys talk to Silvana Tirinzoni and Alina Pätz from team Switzerland, fresh off their win at the Women’s World Championships (2:45). Jim asks about how their win was celebrated by their home country (3:30). They tell Jim that they never get sick of being around the game and they have plans to come directly over to watch the Mens Championship in Ottawa (4:15) and they talk about how they each got into curling (5:00). Kevin asks about the new Swiss team members and admits that he didn’t think it could possibly go this well (7:15). Warren asks about a specific play in the 8th end of the finals against Norway (11:10). They comment on the ice and stone conditions (12:05) and sanding the stones mid event (13:30). Jim asks about their practice routines and what they would suggest for young people getting in to curling (14:55). Jim wonders what they do to relax (18:40) 
     

    After the break, Kevin comments on the how amazing work ethic and knowledge of Silvana combined with Alina’s ‘ice cold veins’ are what lead to this incredible success (20:51). The guys answer an email from ‘Greg’, who has a question about the different types of sweeping, carving, knifing etc (24:45). Kevin talks about the strength that sweepers possess now, to the point of breaking brooms (29:30) and then gives us a recap of the Women’s Worlds (31:00).

    Finally, Warren updates all the curling action that’s been going on, starting with Jones and Gallant winning the Mixed Doubles (35:50), the Canadian Wheelchair Championships in Moose Jaw (39:40), and the Canadian Jr Championships that are underway in Quebec (40:35). Kevin gives a preview of the upcoming World Men’s Championships (43:00). The guys discuss the issues that arose with the broadcast of the Women’s Worlds and what could be done to improve that (48:00).
