Bernie Sanders at the Fox News Town Hall

Bernie Sanders at the Fox News Town Hall
To a not-insignificant number of Democrats, of course, Mr. Sanders’s populist agenda is exactly what the country needs. And he has proved his mettle, having emerged from the margins to mount a surprisingly strong challenge to Hillary Clinton, earning 13 million votes and capturing 23 primaries or caucuses. And for many Sanders supporters, the anxieties of establishment Democrats are not a concern.

That prospect is spooking establishment-aligned Democrats, some of whom are worried that his nomination could lure a third-party centrist into the field. And it is also creating tensions about what, if anything, should be done to haltR.T. Rybak, the former Minneapolis mayor who was vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee in 2016, complained bitterly about the party’s tilt toward Mrs. Clinton back then, and warned that it would backfire if his fellow mainstream Democrats “start with the idea that you’re trying to stop somebody.” Mr. Sanders.New York Times

It also asks whether prospective jurors, their family or friends "participate in any group that protests against police or government agencies" or in any group that "discriminates against any race" or "claims superiority over other races.

    St Patrick’s Day 2019

    St Patrick’s Day 2019
Boston’s 118th St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins this Sunday at 1 p.m. If you’re planning on joining the crowds, here are some suggestions for how to make the most of your holiday. Enjoy yourself, responsibly: Open carry laws will still be in place on St. Patrick’s Day, so enjoy your green beer indoors. Keep in mind that in recent years many bars have closed early, around 7 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. Boston.com
Woody Guthrie wrote "This land is your land" in February 1940, he was 27 years old, sitting in his room in a fleabag hotel in midtown Manhattan called Hanover House. "This Land Is Your Land," Guthrie added a line at the bottom: "All you can write is what you see." He wanted to sing the truth — and in fact, his song was a rebuttal to another one. Kate Smith's version of Irving Berlin's "God Bless America" was on jukeboxes and radio everywhere during Guthrie's journey across the country. He, apparently, hated it. NPR

    Bernie Sanders in Brooklyn

    Bernie Sanders in Brooklyn
US Senator Bernie Sanders took aim at Donald Trump as he launched his 2020 presidential campaign with a message of unity, equality and working class values in Brooklyn, New York.Senator Sanders, a Vermont independent and the runner-up in the 2016 Democratic presidential primary, on Saturday was cheered on by a crowd of thousands who came out in the snow and freezing temperatures to see him speak at Brooklyn College, right near where he grew up as the son of a Jewish immigrant and lived in a rent-controlled apartment. In his opening remarks, Sanders described Donald Trump as “the most dangerous president in modern American history” and affirmed he was saying “loudly and clearly that the underlying principles of our government will not be greed, hatred and lies. It will not be racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia and religious bigotry. That is going to end.”After Brooklyn, Mr Sanders will travel to Selma, Alabama, where he will be among the politicians commemorating the anniversary of the 1965 clash known as Bloody Sunday, when peaceful demonstrators were beaten back by Alabama state troopers as they attempted to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge. He’ll hold his second campaign rally in Chicago, where he attended the University of Chicago and was involved in civil rights protests.Australia Network

“The U.S. Congress cannot be a platform for Steve King and those of his ilk. From Charleston to Charlottesville to Chicago to California, there is no home for this behavior, especially the floor of the United States House of Representatives.”Bobby Rush

I have no tolerance for such positions and those who espouse these views are not supporters of American ideals and freedoms,” McConnell said in a written statement to The Washington Post. “Rep. King’s statements are unwelcome and unworthy of his elected position. If he doesn’t understand why ‘white supremacy’ is offensive, he should find another line of work.”

Anti-Defamation League called on Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and McCarthy to censure King and remove him as the top Republican on a House Judiciary subcommittee.Jonathan Greenblatt, the group’s chief executive and national director, said in a letter to the House leaders that it was the second time that he had made such a request.“When it comes to Rep. King, we are beyond substantive disagreements. Rep. King has brought dishonor onto the House of Representatives,”

Georgia Gubernatorial Debate Stacey Abrams Brian Kemp

Georgia Gubernatorial Debate Stacey Abrams Brian Kemp
Brian Kemp, Georgia Secretary of State and the Republican nominee for Georgia governor, expressed at a ticketed campaign event that his Democratic opponent Stacey Abrams’ voter turnout operation “continues to concern us, especially if everybody uses and exercises their right to vote,” according to audio obtained by Rolling Stone.Kemp then asserted that much of that Abrams effort is focused on absentee ballot requests. “They have just an unprecedented number of that,” he said, “which is something that continues to concern us, especially if everybody uses and exercises their right to vote — which they absolutely can — and mail those ballots in, we gotta have heavy turnout to offset that.”
f a young African-American woman couldn’t one-up a sitting Georgia governor over Confederate symbolism, she wasn’t going to have much of a future in politics. And a spokeswoman for the Abrams campaign on Tuesday noted that the demonstration wasn’t just peaceful, but properly permitted.

This isn’t a huge bombshell. Abrams made her position on historic secessionists well-known last year, when she called for the removal of the giant Confederate figures carved into the side of Stone Mountain.

In any case, if you’re still pining for the restoration of a flag that was intended as a middle-fingered protest against racial integration, it’s very likely that you weren’t going to vote for a black woman anyway.Atlanta.com

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) said in a statement that “there is no question” that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election and continues to work against democracy in the U.S. and around the globe.“The president must appreciate that Russia is not our ally,” said Ryan, who is retiring at the end of his term. “There is no moral equivalence between the United States and Russia, which remains hostile to our most basic values and ideals. The United States must be focused on holding Russia accountable and putting an end to its vile attacks on democracy.”

I'm absolutely certain what he will NOT be talking about," he wrote in an email to supporters. "He will surely not be apologizing for the many lies he told American voters: how he promised to defend the interests of working people, but then sold them out to Wall Street and the billionaire class."He added that Trump would "also not be talking about the role that he has played in significantly lowering the respect that people all over the planet have for the United States" or "his support for authoritarianism abroad."
