56: 90% of Wedding Advice Is Crap + 22 PSAs For Savvy Engaged Couples

56: 90% of Wedding Advice Is Crap + 22 PSAs For Savvy Engaged Couples

I would hazard a guess that there's a 90%, an extremely high chance, that you are listening to and working with advice and recommendations about your wedding with information from people who don't have a clue.

With 15 years and over 900 wedding ceremonies experience myself, a background as a wedding and events manager, extensive hospitality work, and a degree in performance jazz, I can also assure you that even I don't know everything you need to know either.

In this episode, you will learn:

    • why you shouldn't listen to everyone’s advice, opinions and recommendations about your wedding,
    • how to know if recommendations and advice are valuable for your specific needs, and then
    • my top 22 PSAs or public service announcements, that I really hope will be valuable for you.

11: How to choose the perfect wedding cake for the season, your guests and your budget with Lyons Den Cakes

11: How to choose the perfect wedding cake for the season, your guests and your budget with Lyons Den Cakes

Did you know there are summer wedding cakes and winter wedding cakes?

As in different flavours, fillings and frostings that are better suited to warmer days versus those that might be better suited to cooler days?

And how the length of time you want your cake to be on display, the available refrigerated storage options and air conditioning at your venue, plus the expertise of your cake baker, all play a part in working out how much you're going to pay for the cake you really want.

In Episode 11 of the Unbridely Modern Wedding Planning podcast, your host, founder of Unbridely and Australian marriage celebrant, Camille Abbott interviews Terresia of multi-award-winning Lyons Den Cakes to help you work out the most cost-effective way to get the style of wedding cake you love and make sure it looks amazing, and still tastes incredible, by the time you and your guests get to tuck into it.

Make sure you listen for Terresia’s “dirty little cake secret”, find out how to take care of your guests that have dietary needs, and learn about the compromises you might need to make, and the things to look out for, if you choose a cake baker that doesn't have a lot of experience.

10: Sarah & Jack - Remember your why; important lessons from planning an interstate COVID wedding

10: Sarah & Jack - Remember your why; important lessons from planning an interstate COVID wedding

Do you remember when the daily presser from the state Premiers was something that you actually cared about?

They delivered the news of whether or not you could have a wedding in the first place, which borders were open and whether or not you could dance, or consume alcohol standing up. It was a time of uncertainty and very loose travel plans.

Imagine organising a wedding during that time.

And then imagine doing it from interstate.

Sarah and Jack were planning their SA wedding from NSW and had to make some pretty tough decisions very quickly. And even though covid is not stopping us in our tracks like it was last year, there is still heaps to take away from Jack and Sarah’s experience.

You’ll learn how making sure that you really connect with your wedding vendors and find suppliers who get your vision and can match your energy will make all the difference, how to set an intention for your wedding day,

Tips to make sure that your wedding party and any other people getting ready with are not stressed out and who Sarah recommends you take with you wedding dress shopping before you make your final decision.

07: How 'dating' your photographer can get you better wedding photos with James Day Weddings

07: How 'dating' your photographer can get you better wedding photos with James Day Weddings

What if the key to booking your people, the wedding vendors who get you, who you can share a laugh with during your most vulnerable moments and who lift you up, was more akin to dating than checking of a to-do list?

Host of of the  Unbridely Modern Wedding Planning podcast, founder of Unbridely and Australian marriage celebrant, Camille Abbott, interviews James Day, an emotive and epic wedding photographer based in New South Wales, Australia.

He shares why engaged couples have got a lot more control over how they look in their wedding photos than they even realize, how to be a good date (whether you're the engaged couple or a wedding vendor) and the true value of printing your photos.

Make sure you have a listen to his incredible story about Steph and Rob's wedding and how, even though Steph is legally blind, he found a way to create an immersive and unforgettable momento for her; one that she can revisit again and again.

[Rerun] S2, Episode 4: Grumpy Gifter

For the High Holidays, we're revisiting some of our favorite episodes of "A Bintel Brief."

Starting in 1906, the editors of the Forward answered reader questions in a column called “A Bintel Brief,” Yiddish for “a bundle of letters.” Now, we're bringing Bintel into a new era. Welcome to Season 2 of “A Bintel Brief,” the Jewish advice podcast. In “Grumpy Gifter,” a listener writes with a quintessentially mid-30s vexation: she can no longer tolerate the endless gifts required of her by the litany of weddings and babies. Bintel responds with wisdom, humor, and tasteful advice.
