דיברנו על הדרך המקוצעית של מאניה ואיך היא הגיעה להתמקד בסין, ובעיקר כמובן על הרשתות החברתיות השונות בסין, בדגש בעיקר על ווייבו (המקבילה המקומית לטוויטר) בתור המקום שבו הכי נוח לעקוב אחר הלכי הרוח והטרנדים בחברה הסינית, על הדרך שבה דרישות הצנזורה של הממשל בסין משפיעות על השיח ברשתות החברתיות וגם, מה שאולי פחות מוכר לקהל הרחב, האופן הלא מבוטל שבו השיח ברשתות החברתיות בסין גורם לנושאים מסויימים לעלות בסדרי העדיפויות של הממשל. 
נגענו בכמה דוגמאות ספציפיות מעניינות ובאופן כללי אני חושב שהיתה שיחה מעניינת עם אחת הנשים שהכי כדאי לעקוב אחריהן בכל הנוגע לסין, במיוחד בנושאים החברתיים ודברים שבדרך כלל לא מגיעים לכותרות במערב. 
מקווה שתהנו מהשיחה כמו שאנ נהנתי ממנה. 

A conversation with Manya Koetse, a sinologist and founder of the great What's on Weibo media outlet that tracks Chinese social media and bridges it to English-speaking audiences outside China. So obviously talked about Chinese Social Media, and  Manya was the perfect guest for that. She does a fantastic job capturing interesting social trends, connecting the dots with other events in China, and providing thoughtful analysis and insights. We spoke about the main social media platforms in China, the way they impact the public discourse despite censorship, and some great examples of their influence on Chinese society.   Hope you will enjoy the conversation as much as I did.

By and large GAFA have struggled to compete in the largest economy in the world.  Meanwhile BAT (the homegrown tech trio, Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent) represent the new Chinese dragons, dominating in search, e-commerce, messaging, AI and other digital market spaces.
