The Supreme Court today refused to interfere with the Calcutta High Court order of a CBI probe in the Sandeshkhali case. In a setback for Mamata Banerjee government, the top court today rejected its petition into the case related to the attack on an Enforcement Directorate team in Sandeshkhali. During the hearing, the Supreme Court bench questioned the delay in arrest of Sheikh Shahjahan. In it's reply, the West Bengal government said that there was a stay on investigation and after the clarification in the court, Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested within a day.

Coming down heavily on the Mamata Banerjee government over the situation in Sandeshkhali, the Calcutta High Court today said local Trinamool Congress strongman Sheikh Shahjahan "cannot be on the run" and the "state cannot support" him. As the Sandeshkhali showdown turns grimmer, the bigger question remains, 'Where is Sheikh Shahjahan?'
