    How to Feel Beautiful

    How to Feel Beautiful

Find out what's stopping you from feeling more beautiful:  free mini-session

Have you ever looked in the mirror and felt less than beautiful? Perhaps you've spent hours trying to perfect your look, running from one shopping trip to the next for that 'magic' makeover. You may have even considered plastic surgery - anything, just to try and feel good about yourself. But despite all these efforts, do you still feel like something is missing?

If so, it might be time to take a look inside yourself instead of just searching externally - because no matter what kind of makeover we can offer; true beauty starts within.

In this podcast episode, we'll explore how self-love is key in unlocking our inner beauty - and step away from being reliant on external factors that just don't last.

The journey to feeling beautiful is a process. We can tend to the outside all we want and still not feel beautiful on the inside. Understanding why we can't make ourselves beautiful by changing our appearances and delving into what lies beneath the surface is how true beauty blossoms.

It's not about having it all together, but rather it's allowing ourselves to think deeply about why we don't feel good enough so that this can be addressed head-on. Taking accountability for our internal dialogue and its impact on our day-to-day life is a powerful tool for reshaping our thoughts around beauty.

By creating a plan to love yourself more, we are taking an active role in feeling beautiful from within. If you’re ready to make some real changes today, schedule a free mini-session today.

Listen to this episode to learn a whole new look on your self-confidence.  I promise you, you haven't heard this point of view any where else and it will change how you view it.

Here are 6 ways to boost your confidence about your style.

    1. Focus on fit: Invest in clothing that fits well and flatters your unique shape. A well-fitted outfit can work wonders for your self-confidence. Don't be afraid to visit a tailor to achieve the perfect fit, as this can make all the difference in how you feel in your clothes.

    2. Embrace color: Don't shy away from bold colors and patterns. They can instantly elevate your mood and make you feel more confident. Experiment with different color combinations and find what works best for your skin tone and personality.

    3. Develop a signature style: Identify the styles, cuts, and fabrics that make you feel your best and build your wardrobe around these key pieces. Your signature style should be a reflection of who you are and what makes you feel confident and beautiful.

    4. Prioritize quality: Invest in high-quality, timeless pieces that will last for years and make you feel good every time you wear them. Quality materials and craftsmanship not only look better but also send a message of self-worth and confidence.

    5. Seek inspiration: Follow fashion blogs, Instagram accounts, and Pinterest boards of midlife women whose style you admire. This can help you discover new ideas and boost your confidence in your own fashion choices. Surround yourself with positive role models and learn from their experiences.

    6. Practice self-compassion: Be kind to yourself and remember that nobody is perfect. Treat yourself with the same understanding and empathy you would offer to a close friend or family member. Acknowledge your achievements and celebrate your progress as you work on building your self-esteem.

Enclothed cognition is a term used to describe the psychological effects that clothing has on the wearer. It suggests that what we wear can have a significant impact on our self-image, emotions, and performance. This theory was developed by Adam Hajo and Adam D. Galinsky in 2012 in their study “Enclothed Cognition.”

The concept of enclothed cognition states that the symbolic meaning of what we wear can affect our psychological processes, such as self-esteem and confidence. This means that when someone puts on a piece of clothing, they may feel empowered or successful due to its connotations. Furthermore, research has shown that clothes which are associated with higher social status can increase feelings of power and motivation.

The concept of enclothed cognition has been used in a number of studies to examine how clothing affects performance. For example, researchers have looked at the effect that uniforms may have on students' academic performance and found that wearing a uniform had a positive influence on achievement. Similarly, another study found that wearing formal business attire had a positive effect on people's negotiation skills.

These findings suggest that clothing can have a powerful psychological impact, as well as an aesthetic one. Wearing clothes which you feel comfortable and confident in can help to improve your self-esteem, performance, and overall wellbeing. So don't forget to dress for success! Not only can your clothing help you to look the part, but it can also make a difference in how you feel and perform.

I use the science behind enclothe congition in my style coaching practice on various aspects as we design their life and style for their next level of success.

The Busy Woman's Guide to Staying Stylish:  Balancing Working & Style with A Busy Schedule

    1. Office Wear: Opt for classic silhouettes in neutral colors like navy, black, camel, and grey. Invest in high-quality pieces like a tailored blazer and trousers or skirts that flatter your body type. These timemidlifeless items will help you look put together while allowing you to feel comfortable all day long. You can also add an element of personality with printed scarves and statement jewelry [e.g., a long pendant necklace or a bold cuff].

    2. Casual Wear: When you’re off the clock but still have places to go, invest in well-fitting denim pieces like bootcut jeans or chic trousers, plus quality basics like t-shirts and sweaters. Look for interesting details such as side stripes, embroidery work, or embellishments for added personality.

    3. Accessorizing: Accessorizing is a great way to take any look up a notch without overwhelming yourself with choices. Choose one statement piece such as a bright bag or colorful statement earrings that won’t take too much time to pair with the rest of your outfit each morning. Remember the power of neutrals – they can make any accessory “go” with most wardrobes!

    4. Hair Care: Having good hair days is essential when it comes to looking polished at work. Invest in quality products meant specifically for your hair type [e.g., Frizz Ease Extra Strength Formula Deep Treatment] and find simple styles that complement your face shape [e.g., high ponytails for round faces]. This will save you time spent styling in the morning (and time spent dealing with bad hair days!)

Are you a mid-life woman struggling to find the confidence to look and feel your best? Learn why it is essential for women of all ages to seek out professional help in order to develop the skills needed to dress with confidence.

Today we are diving into a topic that needs to be discussed: Why is it that seeking help to navigate through life seems to be taboo after graduating from high school or college?

Let me set the stage for you. When we were younger, we had teachers and coaches to guide us, teach us, and help us develop the skills and knowledge we needed to succeed. But once we finished college, it seems we are on our own. We are expected to be experts in everything from cooking to fashion, to even adulting as a whole.

And let's be honest, just because we get dressed every day doesn't mean we know how to create outfits that are best for us. But we think we should know, we think there's something wrong with us when we don't. But let's shift that mindset, shall we?

Fashion is an art, just like cooking, painting, and architecture - it takes time to develop the skills and knowledge to truly master it. Even doctors practice medicine with the skills they learned at school, and let's not forget, we were taught how to put our arm through clothes, use snaps and buttons, but not how to style ourselves.

We all have to eat every day, and preparing meals for ourselves and others is an essential part of life. But have you ever considered that cooking is also an art? It requires a deep understanding of ingredients, techniques, and flavors. So why is seeking the help of a chef or cooking classes seen as a weakness, when it is really an investment in developing a valuable skill set?

The same goes for fashion and style. We should not feel ashamed or embarrassed to seek the help of professionals, or even friends who have a natural flair for fashion. Don't limit yourself to a limited view of what style is, and instead, let yourself be open to new methods of expression and creativity.

So let's end this podcast with a reminder: it's okay to ask for help, it's okay to not know everything, and it's okay to invest in yourself at any age. Life is too short to not indulge in the things that bring us joy and help us express ourselves fully. Keep slaying, my midlife ladies, and stay stylish!

Many women in midlife face stereotypes that they are too old or not capable of reaching the same success as younger generations. Fortunately, this is not true! Women in midlife truly have powerful advantages that allow them to thrive personally and professionally.

First, let’s start with what midlife actually is - it usually begins somewhere around age 40 - 65 and marks the transition from your younger years into middle age. Commonly referred to as “the midlife crisis,” many people associate this period with feelings of depression, insecurity, and stress. But rather than dreading this period of life, why not look at it as an opportunity?

Experienced: Women over 40 have an abundance of life experience under their belt. They can draw upon this wisdom and past experiences to inform decisions and navigate challenges with more ease than someone who may be younger and less experienced.

Connection/Friendships: Women over 40 tend to have strong social networks made up of loyal friends, colleagues, family members, and business associates who offer support when needed. And because many of these connections have been built over time, they often come with a greater degree of trustworthiness than relationships formed recently or quickly.

Financially Secure: Many women over 40 have achieved financial freedom due to years of hard work and dedication towards building successful careers and businesses. This financial independence allows for more freedom to take risks, pursue dreams, and invest back into themselves or others without worrying about the financial consequences if things don’t go as planned.

Independent: Women over 40 tend to be independent decision makers due to the combination of decades worth of life experiences which has afforded them the confidence needed to make choices that serve their own best interests without fear of judgement from others or worry about conforming to societal pressures or expectations from family members or other sources that often influence decisions made by people who may still be very young adults trying to find themselves in life’s journey .

Health Conscious: Women who are over 40 typically take better care of their health since they understand it is important for them live longer healthier lives so they can enjoy what comes next during this season of life since it often offers some exciting new opportunities within relationships, career paths & investments etc ….. all while becoming wiser & often more adventurous too !

In conclusion, even though midlife can come with its challenges such as hormonal shifts or an identity crisis, women are still able to rise above these challenges by leveraging the unique advantages this period brings about for strong female leadership within their industry. Age is no longer an obstacle but an asset!

    Personal Branding with STYLE

    Personal Branding with STYLE

Learn more about the Midlife Style School:  The Midlife Style School

What is a personal brand and why does it matter?

Personal branding is the practice of developing a unique and recognizable identity for yourself as a professional. It involves leveraging various methods of self-promotion to make yourself stand out from the competition in your chosen field. Not only do entrepreneurs need to have a strong personal brand, but all professionals should consider the benefits of creating one.

A solid personal brand can help you establish credibility and increase visibility, which can open up opportunities both professionally and personally. It helps to create a point of difference that sets you apart from other professionals, giving employers or clients an instant snapshot of what you bring to the table. Developing your personal brand also provides an opportunity to showcase your values and experience, while showcasing why someone may want to work with you.

Having a strong personal brand ensures that potential employers know who you are and what value you can bring to their organization. Your online presence will be more influential as a result, because it creates an easier way for employers or clients to get access to information about you. Through your own branding efforts, companies have an easier time identifying talent that would be a great fit for their organization or project.

Your personal brand is not just about industry awards or achievements – it’s also about showcasing who you are as a person, such as favorite hobbies or hobbies inspiring creativity in others. By having this kind of self-expression involved in your branding efforts, it gives potential employers an insight into how well you’ll fit within their company culture. Furthermore, developing effective communication skills will help build trust between yourself and potential leads or contacts – which could be essential when looking for new job roles or clientele down the line.

Having a solid personal brand is beneficial no matter if you’re an entrepreneur seeking new business opportunities or someone working within an established company looking to progress up the corporate ladder. Through building relationships both online and offline through networking events and social media platforms, as well as effectively communicating who you are through creative digital content – becoming familiar with how best to leverage your own personal brand will ensure more positive results in achieving career goals faster.

Your image is going to make or break your personal brand. Aligning your style with who you are is a non-negotiable for a standout personal brand.

Here are 3 ways having a standout style will help your efforts with your personal brand:

    1. Be Confident

Being a leader in your industry requires having a standout style that is both professional and fashionable. Having on-trend clothes will not only help you stand out from the rest of your colleagues, but it will also give you a confidence boost when stepping into the boardroom or networking with other professionals.

When your clothes fit well and flatter your body shape this can make you feel more comfortable in yourself and ready to tackle whatever comes your way. Feeling confident in yourself gives off a positive energy which is attractive to potential employers or clients.

It’s hard to exude confidence when wearing something drab or dull—so investing in stylish pieces that make you feel good will not only boost your individual confidence but will also have others take notice of how much effort you put into looking put together and polished on any occasion.

    2. Be Memorable:

With an eye-catching wardrobe, you’ll be able to showcase your personality without even saying a word! Whether it’s bright colors or bold patterns, wearing clothes that reflect who you are helps people remember who you are and makes them feel more comfortable around you—which can go a long way when making important business connections!

Having a standout style is also key for networking events or meetings outside of work where first impressions count for a lot. Dressing well shows others that you care about making good relationships with influential people within your industry, setting up future opportunities for yourself.

As a style coach for midlife female successful leaders, I believe that having an eye-catching wardrobe allows you to take control of how people perceive you. This is especially important if you are attending events related to your field as it can make all the difference in how others view your abilities and accomplishments. The right outfit can influence people’s reactions when they meet you, so choosing something stylish and professional can be beneficial for setting yourself apart and making strong first impressions.

Style can help you create a memorable impression that will open doors to new opportunities and next-level success.

    3. Be Credible:

Having a standout style can also create opportunities for career growth. Studies have shown that people who dress in a way that looks more credible tend to get more promotions than those who don’t make an effort in their appearance. Having a polished look helps potential employers or clients take notice of your drive and ambition which shows them that you are serious about achieving your goals.

Standing out in your industry with a polished and powerful personal style can help you gain respect from peers and colleagues. When you show up to meetings looking put-together and professional, it demonstrates that you take yourself seriously, which leads to others taking you seriously too. It sends the message that when you are taken seriously, people will listen to what you have to say.

When meeting new potential business partners or clients, having stylish clothing helps create meaningful connections between both parties—even if it’s subconsciously! Wearing fashionable pieces gives off impressions of trustworthiness which ultimately creates stronger relationships built on mutual respect for each other’s abilities and qualities as professionals in the industry.

Stylish clothing is not only aesthetically pleasing but also establishes credibility in your work environment. The way one dresses is often seen as a visual representation of their skillset, so by having an appropriate look for different occasions, you are presenting yourself as someone who understands what it takes to get ahead in your industry and who is serious about advancing professionally in their career.

In conclusion, having an impressive fashion sense will help you reach your next-level of success faster and have a whole lot more fun while doing it.

Don’t wait another day and start designing your personal brand standout style now.

9 Ways To Feel Like A Wealthy Woman

9 Ways To Feel Like A Wealthy Woman

This month in the Midlife Style School, we are diving into our beliefs about money.  Our beliefs are controlling our feelings and relationship of how we spend and save money.

Do you ever look around and think, "How do wealthy women manage to always look so amazing?"

Well, I have some good news for you, it isn't a secret.  In fact, after working with hundreds of midlife women who wanted to feel like high profile millionaires in their lives and professions, it got me thinking about the different techniques they used to get there.

    And guess what?

Now I'm here to share those same tips that can make anyone feel more like an A-Lister!

So, if you've been searching how to look ultra chic and polished at any age - then this podcast is definitely for you.

I'm sharing 9 ways you can change how you think about money and create the feelings of being wealthy now.

I encourage you to pick one or two today and start improving your relationship with money.

    1. Find your sense of style: Clothing is a big part of how we present ourselves to the world, and feeling like a wealthy woman means having a style that makes you feel confident and powerful. If you're not sure where to start, try looking for inspiration from well-dressed women in magazines, movies, or even real life. Once you've found some styles you like, invest in a few key pieces that will make you feel like a million bucks every time you put them on.

    2. Invest in your home: A comfortable and stylish home is another important part of feeling like a wealthy woman. If your budget allows, splurge on items that will make your home more beautiful and inviting, such as luxurious bedding, artworks, or designer furniture. Even if you can't afford to go all-out, small changes like adding fresh flowers or scented candles can make a big difference in how your home feels.

    3. Take care of your appearance: Whether it's getting regular haircuts and manicures or investing in good skincare products, taking care of your appearance is important for feeling wealthy. It's also worth noting that first impressions matter—so if you're meeting someone for business or pleasure, make sure you look your best.

    4. Develop a taste for the finer things: From gourmet food and wine to high-end fashion and travel, there are many aspects of a wealthy lifestyle that revolve around enjoying the finer things in life. If you want to feel like a wealthy woman, start by treating yourself to occasional indulgences—you deserve it!

    5. Be generous: One of the best ways to feel like a wealthy woman is to give back to others less fortunate than yourself. Whether you volunteer your time at a local nonprofit or simply donate money to causes you care about, giving back will make you feel good about yourself—and it's also one of the most philanthropic things you can do.

    6. Pamper yourself: In addition to taking care of your appearance, it's important to pamper yourself on a regular basis—after all, wealthy women know how to treat themselves right! Whether it's getting massages or facials on a regular basis or simply taking some time out for yourself each day to relax and rejuvenate, making sure you take care of yourself both physically and mentally is key to feeling like a wealthy woman.

    7. Live below your means: One common trait among wealthy people is that they live below their means—in other words, they don't spend all of their money on unnecessary luxuries but instead save and invest it wisely. If you want to feel like a wealthy woman, follow suit by evaluating your spending habits and looking for ways to cut back on unnecessary expenses. You may be surprised at how much money you can save by making small changes to your spending habits!

    8. Invest in experiences: Instead of spending your money on material possessions, invest in experiences that will enrich your life—such as travel, learning new skills, or attending cultural events. These types of experiences are often more rewarding than simply buying things, and they'll help you create lasting memories that are far more valuable than any material item.

    9. surround yourself with positive people: Wealthy people tend to surround themselves with other positive, successful people—so if you want to feel like a wealthy woman, make an effort to do the same. Spend time with friends who support and inspire you, join groups or organizations where successful women congregate, and attend events where you can meet other like-minded individuals. By surrounding yourself with positive role models, you'll naturally start thinking and behaving like them—which will only help increase your own wealth over time!

10 Ways To Re-Invent Yourself In Midlife

10 Ways To Re-Invent Yourself In Midlife

We all know that middle age can be a challenging time for many reasons, and reinventing yourself can seem difficult if you don't know where to start. But fear not!

We have the Midlife Style School is designed for you!

I've compiled a list of ten ways that you can make an impactful change through style and image. Let's dive in!

    1. Invest in a wardrobe audit: A wardrobe audit is a great way to reassess your style and figure out what pieces you need to feel comfortable and confident. You can do a virtual closet edit with you, or you can do it yourself by taking inventory of your existing clothes, shoes, accessories, and makeup. This will help you determine what items should stay in your closet and which ones should be donated or thrown away.

    2. Have fun with colors: Midlife is often associated with playing it safe when it comes to colors, but don’t let this stop you from experimenting with different tones! Try wearing bright colors as accents to give an otherwise neutral look some pop—think red heels, yellow earrings, or a printed scarf. If you’re feeling more daring, go ahead and incorporate bold colors into entire outfits.

    3. Play with layers: Layering is a great way to keep your style interesting without investing too much money or effort. Build on simple basics by adding coats, ponchos, or accessories like scarves or statement necklaces for an instant transformation boost. You can also play around with different textures such as chunky knits, velvet materials or shearling coats for added visual interest.

    4. Discover the power of accessories: Accessories are an important part of any outfit as they can add personality and flair to any look. Experiment with hats, jewelry, bags, belts and shoes that appeal to you—you don’t even have to break the bank! Thrifting is a great way to find vintage gems that won’t cost much yet will make any outfit stand out.

    5. Make comfort a priority: Don’t sacrifice comfort for fashion! When buying clothes always make sure they fit properly and aren’t too tight or too loose so that you feel comfortable all day long. Choose fabrics like cotton or linen which are breathable and gentle against the skin so that you won’t be restricted in movement while still looking stylish!

    6. Get creative with prints & patterns: Midlife doesn’t mean playing it safe! Instead, embrace loud prints and bold patterns as part of your newfound style journey; think polka dots blouses paired with statement stripes blazers for instance… The possibilities are endless once you tap into your creativity!

7 Try out athleisure looks: Athleisure wear isn't just for 20-somethings – it's one of the best ways to stay comfortable while still looking chic at any age! Try pairing cozy joggers with a structured blazer for an effortless yet pulled together look perfect for running errands or meeting up friends .

8 Incorporate vintage finds into modern looks: Vintage clothing often has unique designs and patterns that might be difficult to replicate today; use them as accent pieces in modern wardrobes for a fashionable twist on old classics! For example pair mom jeans from the 80s with a sleek top from the current season – it will look super trendy yet timeless at the same time .

9 Show off those curves (or lack thereof): If you want to truly reinvent yourself in midlife through style & image then consider shifting away from traditional body shapes - whether its emphasizing curves if you have them or embracing slouchy silhouettes if not - there are plenty of options available both online & offline !

    10. Treat yourself once in awhile: At this stage in life many people forget about themselves due to financial restraints but don't forget – treat yourself every now & then by splurging on high-end items such as designer bags , quality shoes , statement jewelry etc ... They will last much longer than fast fashion trends & will help elevate any mundane outfit into something special!

And there you have it – my 10 tips on how to reinvent yourself through style and image during midlife – I hope the advice helps you feel confident enough to take the plunge into exploring some new looks over the next few months!

    Declutter Your Mind in 2023

    Declutter Your Mind in 2023

Join the style & life coaching for women elevating their image & style in 2023:  The Midlife Style School

Are you ready to start living your most stylish midlife in 2023?

If so, you're in the right place, I'm going to show you how to start decluttering your mind of all the negative thoughts that have been keeping you stuck. You see, clutter isn't just the stuff on your floor — it's anything that stands between you and the life you want to be living.

And that includes the thoughts that we tell ourselves like "I'm not good enough," "There's something wrong with me," "I'm not worthy of my dreams," or "It's too late." It's time to start believing different things about yourself and start living the life of your dreams — let's get started!

Identify The Lies You've Been Believing

The first step towards decluttering your mind is to identify the lies that have been holding you back. These are usually stories from our past that we carry with us into adulthood. They can be things like “I’m not smart enough” or “I’m a failure” or even “I can never do anything right.” It’s important to recognize these stories for what they are - lies - and begin to challenge them. Ask yourself if these stories are really true - or if they were created by fear, insecurity, or an external force (like society). Once you identify these lies and call them out for what they are, then it will be easier to release them and move forward.

Replace Negative Thoughts With Positive Ones

Now that you’ve identified some of the negative thoughts that have been holding you back, it’s time to replace them with positive ones. Begin by writing down a list of empowering affirmations such as “I am capable of achieving my goals,” “I am worthy of love and respect,” or “I have everything I need within me to succeed.” Then read through this list every morning when you wake up and every night before bed — this will help train your brain to think more positively and create new neuropathways in your brain so that positive thinking becomes second nature.

Take Action Toward Living Your Dreams

Finally, start taking action towards living your dreams. Stepping Into An Extraordinary Life

    Stepping Into An Extraordinary Life

Do you see yourself as a VIP....a very important person?

There is nothing that you can wear that will make you a VIP.

Reading books, your education or job, doesn't create VIPs.

The only way for you to become a VIP is to SEE yourself as one.

    It comes from within you.

I went to a 3-day coaching event with my life coach, Brooke Castillo, and I absolutely loved it. (Yes, coaches need coaches)

There was three different types of tickets we could buy to attend the event.

    1. A virtual ticket (I don't know how much these were)

    2. General Admission tickets $197

    3. A VIP ticket $1997

I could've got into the same room for $197 but I chose the VIP tickets.

    Why?

Because I wanted to be treated as a VIP.

I wanted extra time with Brooke.

I wanted the good food, and I wasn't disappointed

    But, even more than that...

I wanted to surround myself with people who saw themselves as VIPs.

I met some amazing women and the experience I received was priceless.

They reminded me of the women inside ELEVATE and my VIP clients that have made the decision to invest in themselves.

I have two questions I want you to ask yourself:

What experiences have you grown from because you saw yourself as a VIP?

What experiences have you passed on because you didn't see yourself as a VIP?

Anytime I have the opportunity, I choose to see myself as a VIP.

    Fashionably,

    Afton

    The Art of Layering

    The Art of Layering

he key to layering in a way that is stylish as well as practical is to think about balance. Long with short, flowy with fitted, textured with smooth. Creating balanced elements keeps outfits flattering as well as visually interesting. Here, how to build a layered look from the ground up.

    1. Start With a Base Layer: Most layered looks include a couple of simple, streamlined pieces that form the foundation for the whole look, and gives the eye a place to rest. Whether these include the classic white button-down, a long (or short) sleeve layering tee, or a simple pair of neutral pants, these pieces serve as the springboard for a look that is practical and chic.
    2. Add A Completer: After the base layer is complete, the next piece to consider is the completer piece. Completer pieces can be casual, like denim jackets or cozy cardigans, or a bit more trendy, like a slouchy blazer or moto jacket.
    3. Add A Middle Layer: Between the base and the completer is where the true magic of layering happens, and much of this will depend on practical considerations as well as style preferences. A currently trendy and versatile middle layer is a sweater vest, which layers well over a base layer and under a jacket. But a middle layer can be a more fitted cardigan, a sweater, a button-down shirt or flannel, or a silk blouse. If your base layer was fitted, your middle layer can have a little more volume.

Afton also shares 4 outfit recipes and style tips to create more interesting and luxurious outfits.
