Starting Retinol and Effective Laser Treatments with Dr. Simran Sethi, MD

Starting Retinol and Effective Laser Treatments with Dr. Simran Sethi, MD

I love continuing this skincare conversation with many intelligent and talented industry professionals. We can get a full spectrum of information here, which is ideal as, of course, all of our skin is different! Dr. Simran Sethi, MD, taught me about her skincare research with women of color. Her skincare line, skin by Dr. Simran Sethi, helps women of color who struggle to find the right skincare products by working with the skin renewal process rather than against it. Her products support healthy skin function by minimizing irritation and inflammation. Dr. Sethi is the Founder and Medical Director of RenewMD Beauty & Wellness, a modern medical aesthetics spa with 3 locations across Northern California in Stockton, Fremont, and Folsom, and the host of The Skin Report podcast. We talked about her research, retinol, exfoliating, laser treatments, skin myths…so much!

Taking the Pressure off of New Year's Resolutions w/ Dr. Michelle Segar

Taking the Pressure off of New Year's Resolutions w/ Dr. Michelle Segar
It’s a new year, and we are all trying to form new habits and routines. However, we must remember to give ourselves grace and allow for flexibility because success arises within variations of our goals. Michelle Segar is an award-winning lifestyle coach and sustainable behavior change researcher at the University of Michigan. For nearly three decades, she has pioneered methods to create sustainable, healthy behavior change. We discussed what it means to be an unhabitor, decision disruptions, and her thoughts on New Year’s Resolutions. She is an advisor to leading global organizations and frequently interviewed in major media outlets like The New York Times, NPR, and The Wall Street Journal. Her latest book, "The Joy Choice" was named one of the Best Health Books by the Washington Post. It challenges the habit paradigm with startling evidence from emerging science and her decades of coaching individuals on creating sustainable behavior change.

Getting the Negative Voice in Our Heads to BE QUIET with Dr. Ethan Kross

Getting the Negative Voice in Our Heads to BE QUIET with Dr. Ethan Kross
Happy New Year!! My guest is here to help us start the year in a healthier head space. Dr. Ethan Kross is one of the world's leading experts on controlling the conscious mind. An award-winning professor and bestselling author in the University of Michigan's top-ranked Psychology Department and its Ross School of Business, he studies how the conversations people have with themselves impact their health, performance, decisions, and relationships. We cover it all. He is the author of the National Bestseller "CHATTER: The Voice in Our Head, Why it Matters and How to Harness It." He explores the silent conversations we have with ourselves while interweaving groundbreaking behavioral and brain research from his lab with real-world case studies. He warns that giving in to negative and disorienting self-talk—what he calls "chatter"—can tank our health, sink our moods, strain our social connections, and cause us to fold under pressure.

Dr. Elsa Jungman: Less is More in Your Skincare Routine

Dr. Elsa Jungman: Less is More in Your Skincare Routine
I'm a major fan of Dr. Elsa Jungman's products and was thrilled to talk with her. When she was 18, she suffered from Toxic Shock Syndrome, leaving her skin incredibly sensitive. Since then, she earned a Ph.D. in Skin Pharmacology, dedicating her life to skin science. After researching the microbiome's relationship to skin health, she created her minimal and microbiome-friendly skincare line. During our conversation, she explained the microbiome and how we can respect it with fewer products. Additionally, she shared the ins and outs of her unique skincare line, her experience as a working mother, and more!

Empty house all to myself called for a new solo audio journal! A lot of you have questions about reality TV. So I went into a reflective dive on my experience filming 'The Hills' and 'The City' while answering the question if I'd ever do reality TV again. I also updated you on everything going on with me - what I'm grateful for, recovering from our disaster Europe trip, interviewing for Sonny's next school (HIGH PRESSURE), and more. Finally, I shared advice on finding room for light during a potentially heavy week during Thanksgiving. My heart is with everyone who will feel emotional holes this week. Second Gentleman, Douglas Emhoff, on Why YOU Should Vote!!

Second Gentleman, Douglas Emhoff, on Why YOU Should Vote!!
While traveling in London, I had the pleasure of speaking with the Second Gentleman of the United States, Douglas Emhoff!! He was such a joy, warm, and kind. I am so grateful for the opportunity!! We discussed why it's important to vote (every vote counts for something!), how the overturn of Roe v. Wade demonstrates this importance, why men should not think this doesn't affect them and more!

As Second Gentleman, Mr. Emhoff is working to share the priorities of the Biden-Harris Administration with people across the country and around the world. During his first year as Second Gentleman, Mr. Emhoff traveled to dozens of states and two countries. He has met with health care professionals, front-line workers, parents, teachers, caregivers, community leaders, legal aid providers, and small- business owners in urban and rural areas, communities of color, and Tribal communities to hear their stories and to share how the Administration is working to help their families.

Dr. Anna Malaika Tubbs Recognizing the Mothers Responsible for Martin Luther King, Jr, Malcolm X & James Baldwin

Dr. Anna Malaika Tubbs Recognizing the Mothers Responsible for Martin Luther King, Jr, Malcolm X & James Baldwin
We owe credit where credit is due. Mothers. Women are consistently erased from history even though they are also in the room. They are responsible for the lives of men receiving so much attention. Dr. Anna Malaika Tubbs holds a Ph.D in Sociology and Masters in Multidisciplinary Gender Studies from the University of Cambridge and a Bachelors in Anthropology from Stanford University. Anna centers her research, writing, and talks on gender and race issues in the U.S., especially the pervasive erasure of Black women. We had the best conversation about changing the perception and narrative of motherhood, how shedding light on mothers' stories can impact U.S. policy change, and giving women of color credit. PLUS learn her four tenants for raising black children in the U.S. Anna's debut book, "The Three Mothers: How the Mothers of Martin Luther King, Jr, Malcolm X, and James Baldwin Shaped a Nation," is a New York Times Bestseller, New York Times Editor's Choice, and Amazon Editor's Pick.

Creating a Beauty Empire After a Life-Threatening Tumor w/ Indie Lee
I love interviewing other business founders and entrepreneurs! They always inspire me, and Indie Lee did so tenfold! After surviving a successful surgery, she embarked upon a new journey dedicated to inspiring others to get into life’s driver’s seat while prioritizing the importance of a healthy and balanced lifestyle. With that came the realization that our lifestyle and the environment we live in can profoundly impact our overall health and the health, resilience, and appearance of our skin. Thus, she started her skincare line, Indie Lee! We talked about how she started the company in her kitchen, the superpower of asking for help, her biggest skincare tips, how we feel about anti-aging, and more!

Pregnancy, Miscarriage, and Creating Support for Women’s Health w/ Perelel Founders, Tori Gioia and Alex Taylor

Part of my business model is investing in other companies that mean something to me. One of these is Perelel, the first OB/GYN-founded wellness company that offers women dynamic prenatal vitamins and supplements, resources, and a community tailored to the varying stages of motherhood. I started taking their vitamins when I began the IVF journey. It was so reassuring to know that I was doing something good for myself during a time when I had very little control. So grateful to Tori Gioia and Alex Taylor for building this company! During our conversation, we discussed pregnancy, the steps for building their company, the gap in women’s health knowledge, their product line and more. Destigmatizing Women x Cannabis with Founders of Sackville & Co., Lana Van Brunt and Hayley Dineen

Destigmatizing Women x Cannabis with Founders of Sackville & Co., Lana Van Brunt and Hayley Dineen

I love cannabis - it helps me focus and unwind! And it's just fun. Women feel like they have to defend themselves if they use cannabis due to the stigma surrounding our relationship with it. So, I'm very open about my use to give women the space to talk about it! But, unfortunately, the cannabis industry is insanely male, so they target and market to men. I was so excited to meet Lana Van Brunt and Hayley Dineen, the founders of Sackville & Co. S&Co -- design-forward smoking accessories that look as good as they make you feel. Finding Silence in Constant Noise with Justin Zorn and Leigh Marz

Finding Silence in Constant Noise with Justin Zorn and Leigh Marz
We are living in constant loud noise - the news of our country, voices in our head, awaiting comparison on our social media, kids asking all the questions - it seems impossible to find silence. Even when we find it, some of us avoid it because sitting "quietly" can be scarier than the rest. The freedom we get in silence can be daunting - what do we do with it? Justin Zorn and Leigh Marz joined me to discuss their research and book Golden: The Power of Silence in the World of Noise. Drawing on lessons from neuroscience, business, spirituality, politics, and the arts, Leigh and Justin explore why auditory, informational, and internal silence is essential for physical health, mental clarity, ecological sustainability, and a vibrant community. We talked about how they and others define silence, why we shouldn't fear it, the benefits and healing capacity of stillness, and how we have the power to choose our response to it.    Justin is a Senior Advisor at CEPR (Center for Economic and Policy Research) in Washington D.C. and meditation teacher (and policymaker) for the U.S. Congress. Leigh is a leadership and collaboration consultant teaching experimental mindsets at NASA, Harvard, Google, IKEA, and the Green Science Policy Institute.       This episode is brought to you by Once Upon a Farm, Nuuly, Printfresh, and Outschool.   Once Upon a Farm is the leading baby food and kids snacks brand offering organic, cold-pressed fruit and veggie pouches, dairy-free smoothies, overnight oats, plant-rich meals, and more.
