    Rebekah

    Rebekah
Abraham's servant asks for God's help in finding a wife for Isaac. In doing so he asks God for a sign. What does God think about our asking for signs in seeking His will? What is the significance of the particular sign the servant selected? What did the servant discover about Rebekah by her response to his request for a drink. What do the characters in the narrative know at each step in the story. What things did Rebekah discover when she saw and heard the servant in worship?

    God of Bethel

    God of Bethel
Things take a turn for the worse in Jacob's relationship with Laban and his sons, and Jacob's situation becomes tenuous, even dangerous. How does God use our circumstances to direct us? What is the significance of God being "with" someone? What are the three reasons that Laban's wealth was transferred to Jacob? What part did Laban play in that transfer. What lesson can we learn from Rachel's and Leah's realization that they no longer had a portion or inheritance in their father's house? What, ultimately, will happen to all the riches of the world? Day 361: The Kingdom and Will of God

Day 361: The Kingdom and Will of God
When we pray for God’s Kingdom to come and God’s will to be done, we are asking for the final coming of the reign of God and for his plan of salvation to come to fruition. This petition is most powerfully expressed in the Mass. Fr. Mike reminds us that anticipating Christ’s return should inflame our hearts to continue our mission here on earth and to carry out God’s will with perseverance. Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 2816-2827. Unlock the full experience of The Catechism in a Year (with Father Mike Schmitz) with the Ascension App! Day 277: Such a Time as This (2023)

Day 277: Such a Time as This (2023)
Today's readings remind us that all good things come from God, and he calls us to specific places and times for a reason. In the book of Esther, Fr. Mike points out that Esther was perfectly positioned to fulfill God's will. We too, can examine our lives and realize that there are places God has brought us, "for such a time as this". The readings are Nehemiah 9, Esther 4 and 14, and Proverbs 21:9-12. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Day 259: The Sermon on the Mount (2023)

Day 259: The Sermon on the Mount (2023)
Fr. Mike reads the Sermon on the Mount and explains how Jesus' teachings powerfully fulfill the old testament law, and identify the broken human heart as the source of our sinful actions. We learn that Jesus himself is the remedy to our sins, and that the secret to holiness is living in the perfect will of God. Today's readings are Matthew 5-7, and Proverbs 18:21-24. Not My Will - The 3rd Petition of The Lord's Prayer

Not My Will - The 3rd Petition of The Lord's Prayer

In this episode we turn to the 3rd Petition of The Lord's Prayer: "Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven..."

We look at how we can presume to know the will of God (as we find it outlined in the 10 commandments, learn its fullness from the whole scripture, and see culminated in Christ) and how it really is a simple call to love God and love our neighbours, but also a call to pray for God to counter the dominion of the world, the flesh, and the devil in our own souls; to thwart the plans of wicked people; and to extend the Kingdom of his grace to others through ourselves. This is, again, a radical prayer for massive revolution, that Heaven would invade Earth and flip our upside-down world right-side-up again.

    May Your Will Be Done

    May Your Will Be Done
As we see the Lord’s struggle in the Garden of Gethsemane and how he eventually overcame that battle, we see two timeless truths that will significantly encourage us as we pursue obedience to God’s will in our individual lives. The first truth I want us to see is that There will come times in our lives when doing the will of God will be extremely hard. The second truth I want us to see is that When such trying times come if we sincerely cry out to the Lord in humble submission, he will help us obey his will.

Sermon Vault: Jesus and His Family - Audio

Sermon Vault: Jesus and His Family - Audio
Originally preached 4/3/16 || Mark 3:21 states, "And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.” This is what Jesus’s family thinks about him. His family were saying, “He’s out of His mind.” Different translations and manuscripts have placed different words here like, “he had lost his senses,” or the Greek translation, “He has gone berserk.” Being a pastor in a family, let me tell you this would be hard. If one day I were to be told, “Hey, listen, I think you are like literally crazy. You have gone off the deep-end. You’re preaching nonsense. So much so, we just want to take you home because we think you’re a danger to yourself.” That would hurt.

    The Different Fellowship

    The Different Fellowship
There is no better way to identify with Jesus than to join the fellowship of his sufferings. Only in doing so will you truly come to know him deeply – so choose God’s will, as Jesus did on the cross.-------- Thank you for listening! Your support of Joni and Friends helps make this show possible.   Joni and Friends envisions a world where every person with a disability finds hope, dignity, and their place in the body of Christ.
