Less judgment and more joy will change the world, one woman at a time.

Here are a few of my real-life stories as I attempt to help women understand that they are not alone in the world of business where it can be a battlefield.

Turning Failure into Success - EP 038

Turning Failure into Success - EP 038

I’m curious! What’s your opinion on failure? Is it something you avoid at all costs? If that’s true, does that make you a perfectionist?

On the other hand, do you embrace failure the same way Thomas Edison did?

With all the pressures of social media and the rest of the world to keep up with the most amazing life, I feel like a conversation around failure and perfectionism is somehow in order.

They say there’s no such thing as perfect, but I’m a perfectionist so I know what it feels like to be under the influence of perfectionism.

My engineering career has been one of the greatest causes of my perfectionism and it has also been the source of eliminating my perfectionism too.

Believe me, when you hear this idea you can intellectually wrap your head around it and agree with it. But when you are traumatized by perfectionism at a young age, you still behave like a perfectionist.

Too many times, when I speak to women with 15 or more years of experience I hear some heartbreaking stories of missed opportunities and a series of missed promotions or salary increases that can lead to some heartbreaking results.

Women are typically not as motivated as men in materialistic ways but in the end, it still matters. Women know when they are treated unfairly and it hurts when we are not recognized and compensated for our worth. It hurts everyone.

I think women working in male-dominated industries are fighting a very important battle for personal freedom. They fight for the freedom to be themselves because it is important for them and for everyone else in the world.

When a woman has the chance to bring her unique skills and talent to the world in a way that only she can do, everyone benefits in massive ways.

When women in male-dominated industries fight for career advancement they put themselves in positions that improve relationships between all humans in the most challenging environments on the planet. They constantly figure out how to gracefully win the fight to be themselves. That is such a transformative experience. It gives women the opportunity to feel proud of a job well done and have a unique sense of joy for the work they do.

It can be a tricky place to walk the line between failure and success with or without perfectionism. It is an important path to pursue and one that should be done with as much empowerment as possible.
