Ep. #69 How the National Cycling League is on a Mission to Make Cycling a More Inclusive Sport, ft. Andrea Pagnanelli

In episode #69 of 🎙️The Business Case For Women’s Sports, presented by Ally, meet Andrea Pagnanelli, the CEO of the National Cycling League.

Andrea has had an incredible journey through sports - both personally & professionally.⚽️

From playing soccer at Brown, to working in the NFL, the VC space and within the NWSL, all of Andrea’s experiences in sports have prepared her for a new challenge: leading the newly launched National Cycling League.⚡

Founded in 2022, the National Cycling League (NCL) is working to transform professional cycling into a world-class spectator sport.

For a long time, the Tour de France has been the only widely popular cycling event for spectators to engage with.

Now, the NCL is aiming to create races for both cyclists and fans alike in the U.S., hosting events in Miami Beach, Denver, and Atlanta. 🚴‍♀️

In this episode, hear Andrea talk about the NCL’s plans to revolutionize the sport of cycling by making it more available and inclusive for all.

How self-compassion can unleash your speediest, strongest athletic performance (and improve your mental health) with Erin Ayala

How self-compassion can unleash your speediest, strongest athletic performance (and improve your mental health) with Erin Ayala

Episode #57 // Erin Ayala, cyclist and sports psychologist // How do the stories we tell ourselves impact our self-image, our performance, and even the enjoyment we derive from sport? And what if those stories aren’t serving us? How can we change them?

Licensed sport psychologist, certified mental performance consultant, researcher, and elite cyclist Erin Ayala and I explore these questions and so much more in this week’s episode of Real Fit.

Erin also shares the surprising comment from an ex that sparked her leap into endurance sports, her experience competing in triathlons in the Athena category, why she’s passionate about creating space for athletes of all sizes, how she’s rewritten her own body image story, and how self-compassion has served as the basis for all of it.

Vera Looser on guts, grace and glory

Vera Looser on guts, grace and glory

Vera Looser is a professional cyclist from Namibia. She's represented her country in the Olympic Games, is fluent in 3 languages and competes at the highest level in cycling riding for a European team.

Vera caught my attention some time ago when she rode the Titan Dessert Race (and came 2nd in the GC!) which is only one of the toughest mountain bike races around.

    Vera's list of 2022 titles ALONE includes;

    • Winner of Namibian road champs,
    • 2nd in the Titan Desert Race
    • 4th in the commonwealth games AND
    • A recent stage win in the Swiss epic with Kim LeCourt

Whenever I check out a guest for this show I like to get a sense of who they are, rather than what they’ve done and for me, Vera portrays guts, grace and beauty in equal measure.

Rabbi Jessica Marshall: "I'm just so much happier when I'm living in my heart" | ep. 41

Rabbi Jessica Marshall: "I'm just so much happier when I'm living in my heart" | ep. 41

On this episode, Rabbi Jessica Kessler Marshall and I discussed all the good stuff — including her love of cycling and snacks, the power of nature, the importance of ritual, and what happens when she tunes into her heart.

Jessica is a cyclist, a hiker, and a general lover of the outdoors. She’s also a rabbi with a passion for writing, creating, and helping others to inject rituals into their routines, which we are definitely going to talk about as it pertains not just to spirituality but to everyday life and sport.

As a rabbi, she moved away from a traditional role in a synagogue to forge a different kind of path that pulls from a variety of traditions and really highlights her many gifts. (Which I LOVE!!)

As a spiritual leader and coach, she guides participants into deeper connection with Spirit by moving beyond intellect or logic, to access soul-wisdom so their path lights up with ease, vitality, abundance, and JOY!

Championing spiritual inclusivity via creative rituals, intentional reflections, mindfulness practices, and the wisdom of the natural world, Jessica guides with humor, authenticity, and Divine presence.

This one is a must-listen for anyone who wants to create more joy and meaning in their life.

In this episode, we talk about…

    • Jessica’s relationship with food; why Weight Watchers was so attractive to her at a tumultuous time in her life and how she let go of food rules.
    • The week-long Hazon cycling trip in Israel that was her intro to road biking
    • Her passion for open faced nut butter and jelly sandwiches
    • The bike ride she was on when she knew she had to quit her job and move to a different state.
    • Leaving a dream position as a congregational rabbi to work for herself in a non-traditional role.
    • The one thing Jessica can rely on to supercharge the growth of her business
    • Setting boundaries as an entrepreneur
    • Why rituals matter and how anyone can imbue their life with more of them.

Ten-minute Tuesday: Joyful movement: It's not about the movement | ep 40

In this ten-minute Tuesday I'm bringing you my reflections on my experience riding my road bike up Mt. Evans (the highest paved road in North America!) and what that has to do with joyful movement.

If you're not into riding you bike up mountains, that's totally fine and you should still listen —because joyful movement really isn't about the movement. It's about the attitude you bring to it and what you get out of it. Listen to learn more!

Obviously, we also discuss what the future will bring for Ally and any potential goals she is setting.

Hang in the podcast because we talk about nutrition towards the end and compare making margaritas with mixing 90 grams of carbs into a bottle.

Whoop and sleep tracking devices also make an appearance in the show.
