We Love Rock’n’Roll. Home field advantage? Notsomuch.

One game into the Division Series, Patti and guest host Alexander Dacy remember some guys from the last time the Os and Rangers met in the playoffs, ponder if home field is really an advantage, and wonder if the expanded WC field is good for anyone but MLB’s bottom line. Jose Altuve sets a mark for first pitch homers in the first game of the postseason, as well as HR height differential between pitcher and batter. The Diamondbacks almost earn full team boyfriend status for the way they rallied around their GM as he cared for his wife living with a brain tumor, and then establishing a fund in her memory. Their status is immediately revoked when the team knowingly crossed picket lines for the second time in order to stay in an LA hotel where workers have been striking since July. Joan Jett, Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks, and Guns’n’Roses all have a postseason role to play, from anthems to traffic to just making some space. The Mets clean house – what is inappropriate use of the IL anyway? Lindsey Hill goes public after settling with Trevor Bauer. Alexander tells the tale of the here today gone next year Spire City Ghost Hounds and his tryout with the Atlantic League team. Congrats to Bo Knows Boyfriends, the winner of our very fun and somewhat ridiculous fantasy league. A big thank you to Alexander Dacy for sitting in for the traveling Pottymouth, who will be back for next week’s show.

We say, “Convenience team? That’s like a pity date.” If there were a way that both teams could lose this series, I’d take it.” and “You lie to your kid’s school – you do whatever you need  to do to get to the damn playoff game.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. New rights for pregnant workers

After 10 years of advocacy, we finally have new protections for pregnant workers across the US.

Tune in to hear from Sarah Brafman, National Policy Director at A Better Balance, to learn:

    • What the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act means for US employees and employers;
    • Why the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 still didn't provide protections for most pregnant workers;
    • The role we all must play to spread the word about these critical new protections.

Skull and Bones Death Cult, Consent Management & Connecting to Source w/ Mark Steeves

What's up to my game-changing glass frogs and sartorial shoebills! Welcome to the BNP everyone and thank you for joining. We got a first-rate, five-star, first-class ep for ya this week friends. Zany audio tidbits? You bet your big clacking shoebill beak! Soliloquy about purpose flowing downstream from our connection with Source? As sure as a stick insect looks like a stick.

And we welcome back to the pod friend of the show Mark Steeves, founder of Alt Media United and host of My Family Thinks I'm Crazy. Mark and I have a far-ranging chat about transcending the duopoly, creepy shit at Yale, something called "consent management," and he chats about his extensive work studying the "Brotherhood of Death," aka Skull and Bones, a Yale-based secret society of which way too many highly influential people have been a part, such as Prescott Bush, George W. Bush, John Kerry, Henry Luce, the founder of Time Magazine, Walter Camp, the creator of American football and many, many others.  We also dive into the origins of the corporation, how the Roman Empire never ended and much more.

Interview w/ Mark starts at 27min.

Alexander McKay of Red Star Radio on Building Class Consciousness & Dismantling Capitalism

Alexander McKay of Red Star Radio on Building Class Consciousness & Dismantling Capitalism

What's up to my laudatory llamas and adamant alpacas! Welcome to the BNP and thank you for joining!

This episode I'm stoked to be joined by the dulcet British tones of Alexander McKay, host of Red Star Radio,  a podcast which presents a textured & humorous Marxist analysis of current events, economics, politics and history. To be clear, by "Marxist analysis" I mean Alexander makes sense of the buffeting and baffling tides of current cascading crises by analyzing them through the lens of class struggle, workers rights and the pressing need to cultivate broad working class solidarity.

Recently Red Star has been putting out daily briefings which cover the unfolding situation in Ukraine, and using the daily balls and strikes of that conflict as a springboard to discuss history, theories and ideas relating to class struggle in the UK and internationally.

In this far ranging and fruitful discussion we dive into such juicy topics as: how does one communicate ideas of class struggle to the conservative portion of the working class without scaring them away, why do certain portions of the Left believe that any expansion of state power if good, even when that state is completely captured by and made to serve Capitalists, should we ditch the term "Communism," and what the hell happened to the Jeremy Corbyn project in the UK?

Additional topics include an analysis of how a genuinely redistributive economic system and planned economy would actually enhance individual liberties, by engaging local communities in the deeply democratic process of configuring their own economic engine to fit their particular resources and culture, what we can learn from the Russian Revolution of 1917, and more!

Find Red Star Radio on all the platforms and support Alexander's fine work here: https://www.patreon.com/red_star_radio/posts.

Anita Rosentreter: First Union spokesperson on Uber drivers winning Employment Court case

Anita Rosentreter: First Union spokesperson on Uber drivers winning Employment Court case

An Employment Court win for four New Zealand Uber drivers.

First Union and E Tu sought declaration the drivers were employees- and entitled to things like the minimum wage, guaranteed hours, sick leave and the right to unionise.

First Union's Anita Rosentreter says the court only has the power to declare them employees - but they hope that will bring wider change.

She says the judge indicated there could be broader application of the decision - particularly where there's apparent uniformity in how the company operates - as in this instance.

Stu Lumsden: National Manager Labour Inspectorate on under-reported migrant exploitation

Migrant worker advocates are calling for regulators to speed up the investigative process into exploitation claims.

Over a thousand migrant worker exploitation complaints have been filed within the past year, and ninety percent of those complaints haven't been followed up with an investigation.

First Union says that there aren't enough labour inspectors to handle all of these investigation claims, and that a lack of enforcement renders current labour laws useless.

National Manager Labour Inspectorate, Stu Lumsden explained why these investigation numbers are as low as they are.

"You can get that many complaints, but that doesn't mean all complaints are capable of being investigated. Some are anonymous, and we can't follow up. We can't entertain the facts and it's not worth taking any further."

Biden Administration’s Pro-Worker Agenda Extends Across Agencies

Biden Administration’s Pro-Worker Agenda Extends Across Agencies

The historically broad and coordinated efforts by many NUMEROUS Federal agencies under the Biden Administration to support workers’ rights and union organizing are discussed by Nita, David, and Burt.  A special focus is the integrated actions of agencies not usually involved in workplace matters, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, Federal Trade Commission, Treasury, Department of Justice, and even Agriculture, especially on compliance and anti-competitive and anti-trust issues impacting vulnerable workers.

If you’re gay and have a job, you’ll have a hard time choosing between this week’s clubs! The Mattachine Society and the Daughters of Bilitis provided safe and empowering places for LGBTQ folk during the early and mid 20th Century when such refuges were painfully scant. Meanwhile, the Industrial Workers of the World — the IWW, or “The Wobblies,” a nickname no one has been able to satisfactorily explain — started sticking it to The Man at around the same time with wildcat strikes, whuppin’ some strike-breaker ass, straight-up sabotage, and demands for basic worker rights and protections, and, depending on who you asked, the overthrow of the government and the seizing of the means of production. Covid-1984 Authoritarianism in Hawaii and Michigan with Pete Koeneman

Covid-1984 Authoritarianism in Hawaii and Michigan with Pete Koeneman

Wassup to all my Barbarianx Philosopher-Ruffians!

Pop! Pop! Pop! You hear that? It's the sound of cactus blossoms bursting forth like popcorn on a hot pan, creating a kaleidoscopic cascade of color and elegant form along the Phoenix canals, on the Rio Salado riverside trail, and even amidst the corporate desert xeriscaping in eerily quiet strip mall parking lots.

Nature has the reigns right now, and the air is crisp and clean even in the middle of the S. Phx industrial district. So go outside and take a deep breath: the fresh Spring air is guaranteed to invigorate. We at the BNP are so sure you'll be invigorated by taking a deep breath outside, we'll even refund your breath free of charge if you are unsatisfied for any reason. Now, that's breathing easy!

This episode we welcome back to the BNP friend of show Pete Koeneman, who calls in from jungle side Maui to talk about Hawaii going full fascist and instituting straight up martial law as a response to the threat of Covid-19. The draconian and excessively punitive measures being implemented in Hawaii right now left me speechless and disturbed.

During this time of intense economic precarity and major legitimate concerns about the efficacy of our delicate supply chain, folks in Hawaii are being fined $5,000 for daring to walk along the beach. This is absolutely insane policy, with real-life ruinous consequences for working people simply trying to survive and manage their mental health during this stressful time.

Pete also sheds light on the similarly authoritarian and disturbing goings on in his native state of Michigan, including folks being fined $500 for buying seeds and mulch for home gardens.

We also discuss the monstrous corporate giveaways in the first Coronavirus bailout bill (CARES), the two distinct government-run novel coronavirus pandemic simulations carried out in 2019 (and their chilling resemblance to the real life goings on today), the record number of CEO's stepping down in Jan. 2020, and the wholesale asset dump in early February by well-connected financiers and politicians, weeks before the public was made aware of the severity of the pandemic.

Finally, we end the ep on an upbeat and optimistic tip as we explore what's next for working class movement politics in the U.S. and around the world
