World Beer Cup stats, Cheerwine Ale review, and the magic of mushrooms
Beer cocktails, Cheerwine Ale, World Beer Cup stats, and the magic of mushrooms are all on deck for this week's show.

Shout out to friend of the show Billy for hanging with us on a recent trip to Atlanta.  We had a chance to hit some our favorites spots like Brick Store Pub and Three Taverns Brewery and swap some beers.  He hooked us up with NoDa's Cheerwine Ale that we'll dive into.  It's pure madness and we gotta try it.  We also taste some delightful brews from Eighth State Brewing, Three Taverns, and Wild Heaven.

Delving into the 2023 World Beer Cup, we analyze beer style trends and the evolving palates of beer drinkers across the country. Georgia beers make their mark with some medal wins, and we highlight a thrilling collaboration between Three Taverns and Pilsner Urquell's experimental brewery Pivovar Proud. Plus, a fascinating study reveals the power of free drink samples for boosting sales and brand awareness – a strategy we can certainly get behind!

With grilling season upon us there's sure to be a lot of beer can chicken happening in backyards across the country.  Thanks to Perdue Chicken and Torch & Crown Brewing Company you won't have to wonder the best beer to use.  Their Beer Can Chicken beer has the flavors you need to stuff up that chicken's butt.

In Mo' Mic Nate's Cocktail Corner he shares a super-simple recipe for a beer cocktail known as Spaghett.  Grab a Miller High Life and check this one out

Lastly, we explore the amazing world of mushrooms and their remarkable ability to cool down their surroundings. Can you imagine a DIY air conditioning system made of styrofoam and mushrooms?

Join us for this fun and informative episode, and as always, cheers to great beer!

243: Wild Fields Share Their Winning Ways in Everything From Brown Ale to Mixed Cultures
Winning medals isn’t everything in brewing, but it sure can help. Seeking out that external validation from a panel of peer judges is often more frustrating than it is rewarding, but that’s by design. It’s hard to win, and it should be. For Ryan and Jacque Fields of Wild Fields Brewhouse, (https://wildfields.com) their hyper-focus on improving their odds of winning paid off big at the 2022 World Beer Cup, and the young brewery walked away with four gold medals. In this episode, they share some of the background and philosophy behind their competition strategy, including how they choose categories to enter, and optimizing individual beers to appeal to the widest range of judges. In addition, the Fieldses discuss: building a family-friendly brewery taproom the ins and outs of American and English-style brown ale malt selection for brown ales optimizing water chemistry to take beers from good to great employing contemporary techniques such as whirlpool hopping in classic styles the approach to making funky wild ales that Fields developed at Beachwood Blendery unlocking the funk with aged hops building a hop-tolerant mixed culture that develops acidity slowly packaging for competitions And more.
