    What Makes A Successful Club ft. Bob Popil & Jill Price

    The guys are joined by Bob Popil from the Thistle Curling Club in Edmonton (3:00) to talk about what makes the Thistle such a successful club, the overhead costs of running the club, what Curling Canada and Curling Alberta are doing to help curling clubs, balancing time in the facility between curling club membership vs corporate and group events as well as other possible revenue streams, and the importance of maintaining a good atmosphere at the club.

    On ‘What are You Hearing?’, the guys are joined by Jill Price, Director of Audiology & Client Experience at HearingLife Canada, to discuss the importance of getting your hearing checked (23:30), new hearing aid technology, the effects of hearing loss on mental health, why HearingLife was interested in getting involved with sponsoring curling in Canada and Jill tries to convince Jim to get his hearing checked.

    In the Mailbag, Jim gets an invite to go to Detroit (42:30) and they also get a letter about why the announcers never blame the skip for missed shots (45:30). In What’s Happening Around the Curling World, WCF announces that Pan Continental Tournament will be held in the Kelowna Curling Club next year (49:55) and the guys discuss the need for getting Jr’s involved in Mixed Doubles (57:00).

    Kevin gives an update on the action at the Champions Cup as we head into the final weekend of the season (2:45) they discuss the ‘draw to the button’ (7:55) and then they make their picks for the weekend (14:20).

    Kevin sat down with Kevin Koe and Karrick Martin to talk about the new addition to the team (18:45), Karrick talks about learning to sweep with a new partner (20:45) and Kevin talks about what it’s like to have every guy on the team throwing so differently (21:50). They also get into the upcoming sweeping study, as well as the ice conditions at different events (25:00) and Karrick talks about some extreme carving techniques for different purposes.

    Then they are joined by 4-time Brier champion and 14-time Grand Slam winner, Glenn Howard. Glenn talks about coaching Jennifer Jones and Brent Laing at the Mixed Doubles Championships in Korea (14:25), the on/off ice balance that he brings to training, how he’s able to continually get himself ‘up’ for competition after so many years, the difference between coaching 2-person and 4-person curling, how the team approached dealing with the time change, the quality of curling in the world today and Jim presents a flurry of issues for Glen to comment on.
