Hot Topics: Ressa Tessa | Wendy Williams and Porsha Williams Gurbodia

From the viral tales of Ressa Tessa on TikTok to the tumultuous life lessons from the Wendy Williams documentary, we take an unflinching look at the importance of recognising red flags and holding true to our values in the quest for love and fulfilment.

Navigating the dating world can often feel like a high stakes game where knowing oneself is both the board and the prize. This episode is a candid reflection on the societal pressures to conform, the complexities of culture and societies view on relationships, and the mental health repercussions of a lonely heart's decisions. We analyse Ressa Tessa's viral mini-series as a cautionary tale, and I share my personal experiences to underscore the perils of compromising happiness to satisfy external expectations. Through these poignant stories, we grasp the profound impact our choices have on our lives and the quiet strength it takes to start again.

As I advocate for the power of transparency and the necessity of setting boundaries, especially in the realm of social media, we also dive into the emotional and legal entanglements that can arise from a lack of financial clarity in relationships. Portia Williams-Gubordia's alleged filing for divorce serves as a stark reminder to us all to remain informed, and don't shy away from the crucial conversations.

Part 1: The Complex World of People and Emotions @ Work w/ Roxana Petrus

Part 1: The Complex World of People and Emotions @ Work w/ Roxana Petrus

How we show up at work determines to a great extent how we feel at work. Our complex inner world made of emotions, thoughts, expectations of oneself and others plays a huge role in shaping our wellbeing. Unlike what many people think, we can greatly influence the environment we are in provided we check in with ourselves and keep ourselves honest! Occasionally taking the time to ensure that what we do is in line with what's important for us is a good reminder as to why we get up in the morning in the first place. Join Paola Granati and Roxana Petrus Part 1 of this episode of the World of Work podcast, the WoW.

Roxana is a coach, psychologist and consultant with a background in psychotherapy and transformational coaching. Originally from Romania, Transylvania (yes, the place with all the vampires), now living in beautiful Luzern on a farm surrounded by llamas, alpacas, dogs, cats and the stillness of breathtaking nature.

With over a decade of experience, she currently supports individuals, leaders, and teams in achieving their goals and navigating personal and professional challenges. She delivers individual and team coaching, training and diverse learning experiences around human skills development, emotional agility, communication and collaboration, productivity and satisfaction, leadership and self-leadership.

With a master’s degree in psychology and advanced training in cognitive behavior psychotherapy, Roxana previously worked as a CBT psychotherapist in private practice and on an online therapy platform for anxiety disorders. She was also the founder and president of an NGO active in the mental health awareness area.

    Suella Is Not Brave

    Suella Is Not Brave

Number 10 Downing St is the HQ. For us mere mortals it represents organisations we work for. Suella Braverman is an employee. The sacking of Braverman is more than an angry boss letting go of an employee this is the dynamics of a manager, CEO, Line Manager and HR not recruiting well and then dealing with the fall out of a rogue employee.

In this episode we delve deeper and draw learnings for our own strategic ventures in the world of work.

Let me be clear, I do not believe democracy exists in this country but this country purports to be democratic. When you seek to control the narrative there is no freedom of speech, when you dictate how a peaceful March should be done you erode democracy when you attempt to remove freedoms to push a personal agenda or narrative you erode democracy. I do not believe true democracy exists in this country.

    God Is In The Neighbourhood

    God Is In The Neighbourhood

The workplace has never been a safe place and is not a safe space for Black Women. Being pregnant places women in a vulnerable position, your hormones are raging, your body is changing and you are growing a whole human. Many of us are also managing underlying health conditions too. In spaces where Black Women are not afforded fragility I never felt safe to share with employers  or colleagues that I was pregnant. I held down two contracts whilst pregnant and did not disclose my pregnancy. I attended all my hospital and midwife appointments and for 9 months grew a whole child whilst working remotely and never having to share my pregnancy. It felt safer to say nothing.  Whilst I recognise this is not possible for all my fellow Black Women, in this episode i share why I made this decision and how I managed to navigate my pregnancy and maintain my privacy whilst still stacking for my maternity leave.

Episode 82: Stop Blaming Gen Z
How many times have you heard the word 'entitled' when people describe Gen Z employees? What's so different about this generation than any other, that they can't seem to handle work? Well, maybe there's nothing wrong with them, and it's our work we need to fix. How supportive are our workplaces to those aged 18-24 years? Have we got lazy with job descriptions and recruiting the right fit, only to use Gen Z as our scapegoats? Join Amrit as he focuses on Stop Blaming Gen Z's in this week's podcast.

    I Like Money

    I Like Money

What happens in politics often happens in life. Despite the disgraceful  leadership filled with 'alleged' dishonesty Boris Johnson has now allegedly signed a £1M deal with the Daily Mail  as a  columnist. It surpasses understanding how anyone would think that he would have anything worth while to write about outside of politics, but the questions surrounding how he mis-managed covid as Tory Leader and Prime Minister continues.

This is the same man who ensured that his hair dresser would be included in the honours list. During covid and the press conferences Boris often looked like he was dragged through the bush backwards his personal appearance often reflecting the chaos of covid, most people were shocked that Boris even had a hairdresser. It just goes to show that he does not fear consequences he stands behind his privilege to protect him and now having been exposed as a dishonest former Prime Minister many will have to suffer him again as he takes up his new post as Daily Mail Columnist.

In this episode we will also be discuss maximising your earning potential through contracting. Toya Talks is not just for people in the corporate world, but is for anyone in the WORKING WORLD. The Mothership

    The Mothership

Following on from a previous episode 'Black Women Deserve To Be Loved In Public (PT1)'  https://www.buzzsprout.com/761990/12678087 (Part 2 coming soon)

If this episode is now live it means I have given birth. Yes I am now a mother @ 38. I live by what I teach. Despite being shamed about not having children and not knowing myself if  I wanted Children, I had to do a lot of work to get to this point. This includes therapy, Financial literacy/education, exploring my ovarian health and working through my mother daughter trauma which continues to be something I have to work on because going no contact  has been a challenge but key to my mental health and I know that now. I have no clue what I am doing but what I do know is I have done the work and continue to do so. Everyone ignores mental health but it is a key factor in deciding whether to bring life into the world, until you work through your trauma how are you able to ensure you are not complicit in continuing the cycle of generational trauma?

Despite what society and culture has said I chose to focus on developing my career to enable me to create the life for my child that he/she deserves.  In doing so I have also been able to develop my career to a stage that I have felt confident and comfortable to take time out to balance motherhood.

The last 9 months has also consisted of mourning my old life where I was the sole focus. There is now a required balance of Career & Motherhood.

Princess Cuts - (Including x2 dilemmas)

Princess Cuts - (Including x2 dilemmas)

We are too grown to not understand and accept that 'princess treatment' is a toxic and dangerous concept. Breeny Lee was dragged on social media for pushing the narrative that if you behave like a 'princess' will and should expect to be treated like one. This doesn't make sense if you don't operate your life like this in reality, that aside women should be packaging themselves operating from a space of independence and mental maturity. We discuss this in this episode and i take it a step further in ask fr us to also consider how we treat ourselves.

We have two dilemma's in this episode that we address anonymously.

Where There Is A Cost Code, There Is a Budget

They will have you believe that they have no budget to negotiate or to meet you half way. Their egos wont entertain a negotiation because they use this a a tactic to ensure you know your place. Humility comes with humble pie when they realise that your skill set is not readily available on the market and this then provides you with leverage. Leverage = Power.

    Full Disclosure - Dilemma Episode

In this episode we discuss the attempts to rent the rage of Black Women an example of this, is the video released by the Original founder of GrassFields calling the Black Community to to help but not providing transparency and full disclosure. We discuss the learning lessons here.

    This is a dilemma episode.

*Point of correction in the podcast i mention the tories wanting to increase the retirement age. They are actually wanting to increase the retirement age in the UK from the age to be more than 68 yrs old and not to 68 yrs old.

    Quiet Quitting

    Quiet Quitting

Lets discuss quiet quitting defined as ' the practice of doing little or nothing while being present at ones place if employment'. - I define it as working smarter rather than harder and realigning your wants and expectations by doing the bare minimum delivering and still appearing to be working hard whilst strategically developing and then executing a strategy and exit plan to leave. All whilst appearing to be engaged and present.

We then discuss the contractual landscape with regards to enforcing payment terms whilst contracting/freelancing. What are we doing with non payment/late payment of invoices? Here I give you some tips and pointers that I am currently using to get paid whist avoiding having to to go to small claims court to get what you are owed.

    Business As Usual (B.A.U)

At the age of 96 The Queen of the United Kingdom passed away, this of course has given rise to topical discussions both on social media and within the workplace. The topic of the British empires role in colonisation is a painful one especially when people tell you how you should feel about the monarchy and how to react to the passing away of the Queen of England. One thing is for sure one cannot discuss the monarchy without being honest about their role in colonisation, slavery and the destruction and interruption of peace in Africa.

Getting Creative in Times of Crisis | Pete Carr, Bacardi North America

Getting Creative in Times of Crisis | Pete Carr, Bacardi North America
“Can I use swear words?” Bacardi North America Regional President Pete Carr quips when asked how Bacardi, a 158-year-old family business, survived the impacts of 2020.

Pete  identifies the very moment on March 12 that he knew things were undergoing irreversible change, how the entire company rallied around an “all in” founder’s mindset, and the importance of constant communication from that point onwards.

He shares the many ways the Bacardi business was set up for success, from the global footprint which afforded the North American division foresight as they watched what took place in China and across Europe, to the the long-term runway he’s afforded as a leader within a family-run business that maintains a generational mindset.

Learn how Bacardi got creative with recipe development, cocktail delivery kits, and the fastest ever product launch: hand sanitizer for first responders, and take note on how Bacardi underwent rapid digital adoption to guarantee no dead ends when 70% of consumer purchases shifted online.

Modernizing a Legacy | Peter Mondavi Jr. & Judd Wallenbrock, C. Mondavi & Family and Charles Krug Wineries

Modernizing a Legacy | Peter Mondavi Jr. & Judd Wallenbrock, C. Mondavi & Family and Charles Krug Wineries

In the first ever episode of Beyond the Bottom Line, Bert speaks with Peter Mondavi Jr. and Judd Wallenbrock about how they’ve successfully transitioned a legacy family business into the modern world.

Peter Mondavi Jr., son of Peter Mondavi Sr., kicks things off by sharing the family history that underpins one of the biggest names in New World wine. He explains how his grandfather’s winemaking pursuits took off during prohibition — when it was somewhat accepted for individuals to make up to four barrels of wine for personal consumption — and how the Charles Krug brand aligns well with the Mondavi history.

He and Judd describe the passion required to work in the wine industry, the rapid shift to a digital focus they navigated earlier this year, and how their safety precautions have increased in light of both COVID-19 and the California wildfires.

Learn how an 8,000 year old industry has thrived across generations, and why Peter and Judd predict data analytics will become the most critical skill in their space.

Catching Curveballs | Andy Callahan, Hostess Brands

Catching Curveballs | Andy Callahan, Hostess Brands

In this engaging and honest conversation, Andy Callahan, President & CEO of Hostess Brands explains what his team had planned for 2020 and how they pivoted in the face of a crisis. The U.S. Naval Academy graduate shares what his military background taught him about preparing better than anyone else for something you never want to face, and how he was able to apply this as the leader of a century-old brand.

Andy explains that Hostess established a COVID-19 task force designed to cement the organization’s core values during a time of disruption. He outlines the many initiatives undergone to maintain a strong sense of safety, agility, and service as the foundation of the company’s culture — beginning with an altered bonus structure as soon as performance-based compensation no longer made sense.

Join Bert and Andy as they discuss the brand new Hostess Innovation Lab, what innovation means to the 100-year-old company, and what’s in store for the century to come.
