    61 - Should is Damaging

    61 - Should is Damaging

Cindy Esliger talks about ‘should have’, ‘could have’, and ‘would have’ phrases to highlight how they can lead to negative self-talk, self-blame, and feelings of regret. She guides us through how they impact our mindset and how to turn them around into possibilities instead of statements of disappointment.

‘Should have’ and ‘could have’ root us in regret over past actions. Focusing solely on what we didn’t do or could have done better can impact our confidence going forward. It leads us to procrastination and doubt in our abilities. ‘Would have’, on the other hand, keeps us open to possibility which helps us take responsibility for past choices and lets us inform future decisions. Our words have power over our mindset.

Eliminating negative speech from our vocabulary can be difficult, so Cindy offers five tips for getting rid of ‘should have’ and ‘could have’ and what to replace them with. The replacement wording aims to reframe mistakes and emphasize strengths. She explains how to turn those negative statements into empowered ones instead. And she shares three important takeaways regarding the impact of negative phrases on our mindset, to help us realize how important our self-talk really is. This episode challenges us to examine our innate speech and focus on what we say.

    Episode 7: Would You Rather...

    Episode 7: Would You Rather...

In episode 7, we talk about our weeks - which we find out that Amanda was good until some turd stole her checking account number and Ashley talks about her teacher stress and then we dive into our Spill The Tea which you KNEW we would have to talk about the slap heard round the world by Will Smith!  We also talk about the Eric Church concert in San Antonio that wasn't meant to be apparently?!?!  Coming hot on the heels of the celebrity gossip is our go off which is a joint one concerning people in public trying to tell you how to parent because they know all, right??  In Why Are We Like This, why does Amanda tell her husband they need to save money and then she goes and spends it all?  Also, why does Ashley get obsessed with a drink, song or something of the like and then consume it so often that eventually, she can't stand it?  Our topic this week is a good one as we play "Would You Rather" and answer the hard-hitting questions---not really, they are pretty random but fun ensues!  Our That's What I like includes a children's consignment sale and Dollar General/WalMart yard decorations and how awesomely inexpensive they are!

How to...use "to be supposed to" in 3 different ways

How to...use "to be supposed to" in 3 different ways

This little modal verb phrase has been popping up a lot in my classes and teaching so I want to teach it to you. This is a common confusion with the verb Suppose (which is different) and it is VERY common mistake. Students say "It's supposed that" instead of "to be supposed to" in the correct form.

I go through and give you 3 clear examples of how we use this structure in the real life to talk about expectation and requirement in the present and past tense.

I really encourage you to think about your own sentences with "To be supposed to" after listening to this episode and to start using them when you speak English.

I hope you find this useful. If you have any feedback or thoughts feel free to get in touch with me.

    SA Systems extra questions answered!

    SA Systems extra questions answered!

I was lucky to be presenting all about SA Business Systems at the online The Property Ladder with KMO Support monthly meeting.  Thanks so much to Kudirat Mojisola Olowosale for the privilege to share what we do and the benefits of SA systems.

With SA being hospitality as well as property, it’s really key to use systems to give your guests the best experience when they stay, while still remaining personal.

There were several questions I didn’t have time to answer in the end, so I thought it would help to answer these now.

    What your guests really want

    What your guests really want

We’ve been working on a guest survey to find out what our guests really want, and what they’d love us to do more of and anything we could stop doing that would improve their experience staying at our serviced apartments.

This will be awesome to enable our guests to come back and have an even happier stay next time they book.

Along with other recent events, it made me think that a valuable exercise in our own lives could make all the difference too.
