Reparations, Romance, and Writer's Heart for Justice

Reparations, Romance, and Writer's Heart for Justice

Laura Bell (@littleLo) chats about her Ashwood series and revisits the writing of A Simple Deception—a historical romance that totally made me cry.

If you listen close enough, you can hear my necklaces clank as I press my hand to my heart with all the feels. Literally clutching my pearls over here. :)

Topics include the troubles of historical fiction. Slavery in the 1800s and today. Freedom. The vulnerability of writing. A romance writer’s high standards. Fighting against a whitewashed genre. The vulnerability of writing.  Dating apps. Justice in fiction.

    LittleLo's Ashwood Series:

And a Wattpad shout out to @Kassilassie for her killer western historical fiction on Wattpad and all the other writers spinning the stories we want far better than we ever could.

Interview with Prajwala Dixit, The Tales of Dwipa | The Write Project

Interview with Prajwala Dixit, The Tales of Dwipa | The Write Project

Interview with Prajwala Dixit, author of The Tales of Dwipa, published through Breakwater Books!

Through a framework of traditional tales, fantastic creatures struggle with issues of marginalization, opening discussion for parents and children in an accessible form.

The Tales Of Dwipa is a collection of short stories adapted from the Panchatantra, a collection of simple, engaging, and interrelated animal tales penned by Pandit Vishnu Sharma in the hopes of awakening the dim intelligence of a powerful Indian king’s idle sons. The ancient stories of the Panchatantra still find meaning in today’s world despite originating in India before 300 BCE. These stories are set in a Canadian context with topical themes, bringing together two distinct cultures—Indian and Canadian—for the most impressionable minds of our society.
