    Michael Cragg, journalist and author

Michael Cragg is a prolific music journalist for The Guardian, The Observer, Vogue and more, and as of last year, the published author of Reach for the Stars, an oral history of the mind-boggling period of British pop music that flourished between 1996 and 2006.

We discuss the heady confluence of factors that lead to an era bookended by the Spice Girls and the X Factor, Michael's own complicated relationship with music and his queerness, and Xenomania's contributions to the UK pop canon.

We also discuss music by Girls Aloud, Björk, and George Michael.

    84. The X Factor To Increasing The Longevity Of Your Business Regardless Of Industry Or Market Most Founders Forget.

    84. The X Factor To Increasing The Longevity Of Your Business Regardless Of Industry Or Market Most Founders Forget.

    Adaptability = Survivability = Sustainability.

The numbers have always reinforced that the longer you are able to stay in business during certain milestones, the higher the percentage you will be successful in business. No surprise that the longevity of a business's existence runs parallel with the growth and success of that business. But most emerging businesses need to think long-term and work backwards to reengineer their approach for the short-term.

Passion. Obsession. Immediate Action. All great and necessary intangibles to get off the ground and liftoff. But certainly, charting out a path to the moon and beyond even before the rocketship is funded and built is part of the process if you want to break through the atmosphere in a mighty way.

With the rise of AI/ML, as shown through the fast-adopting movement with Chat-GPT as well as this constantly changing and ever-evolving business/marketing landscape that is impacting both legacy and emerging brands, it is getting more difficult to know which way to go, how to fortify, and how to scale your business long-term.

The secret to the longevity of a business, from brand allegiance and authority to maintaining high-level demand upstream and downstream to even being recession-proof, is all dependent on this one X Factor most business leaders easily forget. This episode dives in and talks about it!

Martin Jensen 'Me, Myself, Online: Music and the New Abnormal'

Martin Jensen 'Me, Myself, Online: Music and the New Abnormal'

    Series Two

In this episode of #TheNewAbnormal series, I interviewed the billion-streamed, multi-platinum songwriter and producer Martin Jensen, who topped off a crazy year as an X-Factor judge.

Martin’s breakthrough 'Solo Dance' had over a million streams daily upon its release and was the second-most played track of the past decade across BBC Radio 1, as well as going 8x platinum with international success.

He also collaborated with #1 artist James Arthur,  and The Vamps, and was approached by Katy Perry and her team to officially remix ‘Bon Appetit’.

He collaborated with Jason Derulo, regularly playing hundreds of live gigs each year (before the pandemic hit) taking his sound to shows everywhere from the world’s biggest dance festival Tomorrowland, to Lollapalooza, etc.

At the start of lockdown, he launched a project called 'Me, Myself, Online' that saw him stream sets from stunning locations, solo in conjunction with Twitch and Revolut.

So, in this episode we discuss his dynamic career, the day to day complications of being a mega-star DJ vs 'normal life' and how he related to the issues of 'hope, community and resilience' during the pandemic.

Even with terminal cancer, there is ‘No Finish Line’ for Johnny Ruffo

He burst onto the scene when he was a favourite on The X Factor back in 2011, then followed up with a hugely successful career including starring on Home & Away, winning Dancing With the Stars, and supporting One Direction and Backstreet Boys on tour. Then sadly in 2017, Johnny Ruffo was diagnosed with brain cancer which he has since been told is terminal.

Johnny has an incredible outlook on life, and an even more incredible sense of humour! You’ll laugh more times throughout this episode than you can count, whilst also being reminded why it’s important to cherish life and to not sweat the small stuff.

If someone you know is suffering from any kind of illness, whether it be cancer, depression or something else, Johnny offers his advice on how you can be there for your loved one in a time like this. He has just released his book ‘No Finish Line’, and explains why for him, there is no such thing as a finish line and why he will keep on fighting.
