About Ladysmith Black Mambazo:
For over 50 years, South Africa’s Five-Time Grammy Award winners, Ladysmith Black Mambazo has warmed the hearts of audiences worldwide with their uplifting vocal harmonies, signature dance moves, and charming onstage banter. With a deep respect for both their cultural and personal history, Ladysmith Black Mambazo is ever-evolving with an eye toward their long musical legacy. Since the world discovered their powerful a cappella vocals from Paul Simon’s Graceland album, the original members have welcomed a younger generation in their mission, passing along the tradition of storytelling and spreading a message of peace, love, and harmony to millions of people the world over. Now led by the four sons of group founder Joseph Shabalala, after joining the group almost twenty five years ago, an infusion of youthful energy and the promise of a bright future has a firm grip within the group. It was Nelson Mandela who anointed the group ‘South Africa’s cultural ambassadors to the world,’ a designation the members carry with them with the highest honor. In 2017 the group released two albums that both were nominated for Grammy Awards, a first for a World Music group. On Songs of Peace & Love for Kids & Parents Around the World, Ladysmith Black Mambazo shares their uplifting message with audiences of all ages through their music and the stories behind the songs. Their second album of 2017, Shaka Zulu Revisited, celebrated the 30th anniversary of their first Grammy Award-winning album and fittingly won Best World Music Album that year.

Obi Kaufmann Comes to the Finley Community Center (Aired: February 7, 2020)
Obi Kaufmann Presents
Ecological Connectivity and Restoration in Art and Science
Finley Community Center
Tuesday, February 11,
2020 @ 7:00 pm
Obi Kaufmann, the best-selling author of “The California Field Atlas,” brings his work to the Sonoma County Community on Tuesday, February 11 for an exclusive presentation that includes an introduction to his newest book, “The State of Water: Understanding California’s Most Precious Resource.” The acclaimed naturalist, writer, and artist grew up adventuring around Mount Diablo — and falling in love with it — before deciding in college to pursue a career in visual arts. A lifelong backpacker, Obi wrote his first book, “The California Field Atlas,” after enjoying decades of California summers, with “more days without a roof on the trail than under one in a house.” He integrates his background as an artist and a trained mathematician into his own brand of storytelling — what he calls “systems stories” — melding analysis and aesthetics through nature writing and watercolor paintings to present a new vision for the conservation of California. His books, prints, and cards will be available for sale after the presentation.
Welcome Reception and Talk at 6:00 pm
Join us before the talk for a special opportunity to mingle with Obi Kauffman during a small reception. Ask questions, get your book signed, nosh and enjoy delicious local wines from our partner wineries. There will be a special unveiling of an art piece created by Obi just for Sonoma Land Trust. You’ll also have first dibs on Obi Kauffman prints, cards and books for sale. Limited tickets are available.
