"You therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that wars, entangles himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who had chosen him to be a soldier" (2 Tim. 2:3, 4). As Christians, we are engaged in a battle with the world, the flesh and the devil. So Paul says, "Endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ, or more literally, "Take your share of suffering." No matter how tough the battle is, we are to withstand the enemy, "and having done all, to stand." The armor and weapons which God supplies make no provision for retreat or defeat. We must remember that "we are more than conquerors through him that loved us" (Romans 8:37).
