“We want to be saints, not celebrities!”

In this meaty episode, we hear from popular author and theologian Dr. Scott
Hahn, founder and president of the Saint Paul Center for Biblical Theology.
Dr. Hahn chronicles his personal understanding of holiness beginning with his
earliest experiences as a juvenile delinquent and how he discovered
scripture and encountered Christ on a Young Life retreat. Hear then how Dr.
Hahn’s presence at Dr. R.C. Sproul’s Bible studies shaped his approach
towards God.

Holiness became a topic of primary interest culminating in Dr. Hahn’s book,
Holy is His Name: The Transforming Power of God’s Holiness in Scripture
which represents years of research and biblical study, but also draws one to
the cross. “We are free to be holy, and we are only truly fully holy when we
are freed,” he states.

Learn what Dr. Hahn considers to be the job description of a theologian and
hear his comparison between holiness and righteousness.

This deep discussion mentions Greek words like “caritas agape” and
individuals like Augustine, Aquinas, King Uzziah, and the prophet Isaiah.

You’ll find out why Dr. Hahn considers his book, Holy is His Name, and Matt’s
book, Free to Be Holy a “one-two combination.”

The episode concludes with Dr. Hahn sharing what he believes to be a slice
of Heaven on Earth.

Bringing purpose and ritual to the start of each day is a powerful elixir for the rest of the day. Today, I introduce the practice of "Quiet Time,"  a daily ritual in my life since I was a teenager. Through the decades, it's become increasingly valuable and how I access my wise inner teacher.  I’ve worked closely with today’s guest, Linda Neff, and introduced her to quiet time and tuning into the innate wisdom within. 

In our conversation, we discuss how our quiet time rituals have evolved over the years and why it’s something that we continue to show up for daily. 

We’re all inundated with outside influences and noise, but when I have my morning quiet time, I find that I can move through life more intuitively and connected. In this episode, Linda and I look back on periods of our lives where quiet time really shifted what we were feeling and provided us the space to proceed in a more aligned way. 

Linda and I share some of the props and elements of our routines that have been supportive throughout the years, such as journaling, reading, or sometimes simply sitting in silence. Linda also opens up about what’s been coming up for her in quiet time during this season of her life.

Brian has lived a life of ministry working with Young Life, an organization whose mission is to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith, for more than 35 years before launching the Tod Bush Leadership Center in Addison, Texas in 2017. A graduate of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, Brian is a seasoned spiritual guide, marketing expert, teacher, and writer. Brian is also the author of the book Telling Stories: God’s Grace Revealed Through Adventures, Awkwardness, and a 1981 Monte Carlo. In this conversation, Brian and Stacy discuss Brian’s awakening to relationship with Jesus, faith through community, the keys to developing faith in teens, the difference between religion and relationship, and how to spend time with God.

If every decision leads to a story we will tell later, the decisions of Jeramy Williams's life have lead to a story about investing deeply and lovingly in other people's relationships with God (especially young people). Jeramy is the president of Outreach Inc. and Director of Training and Discipleship at Love Squared. Before that Jeramy was a college pastor and an area director for Young Life for over 10 years.

Before Jeramy devoted his life to investing in others, he was just a kid focused on friends, family, and football. During his junior and senior years of high school he learned, in very hard ways, that these three foundations could not support him. Rather quickly Jesus become the new foundation of Jeramy's life. This is the story of how God used his dad's conversion, a college young life event, and a good mentor to change Jeramy's heart for good.

Stephanie was a teen mom at 16 and a widow at 35, now she is the mother of a goat rodeo, grandma to two and the Delta Area Director of YoungLife. 

In this episode we talk with Steph about the difficulties she faced as a teen mom, she shares with us the hardships of being married to a spouse who became addicted to pain medication and the heartbreak of becoming a widow. 

Through all of the ups and downs she found one thing to be true and she shares that one thing with us, as well as sharing about Young Life and the work they do with students. Come on and meet Steph, you're gonna love her!

This is an interview that I did a couple of months back with Dave Avramovich. He's a young life area director, he is responsible for the Los Angeles area. And he's also a pretty great guy. The fun part about today is like this is a maiden voyage. So I had to build a studio. So that's why it kind of took so long. And so hopefully very shortly here, we'll have a lot more episodes. Layne Bowser is a graduate from Baylor University Living in Waco, Texas. She works for Magnolia and has found wonderful community that welcomed her in and helped her call Waco her home. Layne shares about how trusting God in singleness allows her to enjoy social events at a different level. She no longer replays every conversation in her head when she goes home and doesn't feel the pressure to be some she is not. She also shares about how in a previous relationship she was unequally yoked and why it was not God honoring. Check out the episode, as the conversation packs a ton of value about both singleness and relationships.

This episode I had a discussion with LJ Clements from the Living Out Loud With LJ Clements Podcast about where God has him and what he is teaching him about singleness. He openly shared how he wants to surrender his desire for marriage to God, but hasn't been able to completely. It's not easy to do! He shares for his desire to surrender to God in all areas in his life. If surrendering to God is difficult to do, pray for the ability to surrender, so God can step in on our weakness.
