    • Staying Relevant in the Entertainment IndustryTo stay relevant in the entertainment industry, be proactive, self-aware, and consistent. Check-in weekly, learn from experiences, and improve to achieve success.

Staying relevant in the entertainment industry requires consistent effort and self-awareness. The speakers in this discussion, Sebastian and Pete, share their experiences of trying to make it in the industry and the importance of staying relevant to achieve success. Sebastian recalls their failed attempt to break into the American market and how late notice and lack of preparation hindered their chances. Pete, on the other hand, shares his lack of self-awareness and not watching himself on TV as reasons for not making it. To stay relevant, they plan to check-in weekly and share new things they've done to progress towards their goal of becoming credible in the industry, like Jimmy Kimmel, Ant and Dec, or Ian Wright and Laura Whitmore. They acknowledge that it's essential to watch themselves on TV and learn from their experiences to improve and grow. The discussion highlights the importance of being proactive, self-aware, and consistent in the entertainment industry to stay relevant and ultimately achieve success.

    • Sharing awkward experiences in the entertainment industryTwo veterans in the entertainment industry create a podcast to share their experiences and those of their guests, acknowledging the challenges of staying relevant and poking fun at their own embarrassing moments.

Trying to stay relevant in the entertainment industry as one gets older can be a challenging and embarrassing experience. The speakers, who have been in the industry for a while and have faced numerous awkward situations, decided to create a podcast to share their experiences and those of their guests. They acknowledged that they may not have much talent, but they're all trying to make it in life. They joked about the pressure to keep up with younger, more talented and better-looking competitors and the importance of social media engagement. They also poked fun at their own embarrassing moments and encouraged listeners to laugh at their expense. Overall, the podcast aims to provide an insight into the struggles of maintaining a career in the entertainment industry as one ages.

    • Adapting and Persisting in the Entertainment IndustryIn an ever-changing industry, it's crucial to be adaptable and persistent in pursuing opportunities.

Staying relevant in the entertainment industry requires flexibility and persistence. James Corden and Pete Townshend, in their conversation, shared their experience of trying to break into the TV writing world with their podcast. They believed they had a winning concept but faced rejection multiple times. Corden acknowledged that he stays relevant by appealing to a wider audience, including kids and older adults, while Townshend is more relatable to the younger demographic. They also showed flexibility by adapting to new platforms like TikTok. The key message is that in an ever-changing industry, it's essential to be adaptable and persistent in pursuing opportunities.

    • Unexpected success from less experienced colleaguesStay adaptable and focused on the present, past accomplishments don't guarantee future success.

Experience doesn't always guarantee success in the entertainment industry. Friends and colleagues, even those with less experience, can surpass those with more if they seize opportunities and perform better. For instance, the speaker merged a project with a friend, Liv Atwood, who has been in the industry for fewer years but has achieved significant success. Despite the speaker and their team having a three-year advantage, Liv outperformed them, leaving them feeling like they've been leapfrogged. This unexpected outcome highlights the importance of staying adaptable and focused on the present, rather than dwelling on past accomplishments. Additionally, the conversation touched on unconventional methods to gain attention, such as potentially releasing a sex tape or performing a sultry hand job on camera, but ultimately, it's essential to consider the potential consequences and long-term impact on one's reputation.

    • Awkward public encounters with friendsBe respectful and mindful during professional interactions to avoid awkward encounters and maintain a positive image.

Public appearances can be awkward and unpredictable. The speaker shared an embarrassing experience where he was trying to pitch an idea to a commissioner at a TV event, but was constantly interrupted by his friend Sam who kept asking for tequila and engaging in small talk. The speaker's attempts to dismiss Sam and continue the conversation were unsuccessful, leading to an awkward encounter with the commissioner. This experience highlights the importance of being respectful and mindful of others during professional interactions, and the potential consequences of distractions and interruptions. Additionally, the speaker mentioned Sam's unusual behavior of prolonged hugging when meeting new people, which can also be seen as a potential source of discomfort or awkwardness in professional settings.

    • Unique approaches to building connectionsEngaging in unconventional conversations and offering assistance can help stand out and make valuable connections. Stay open to new experiences for potential collaborations.

Building connections and staying relevant in social situations can be achieved through unique approaches. Sam and Pete, despite their differences, have found success in their own ways. Sam uses his extensive knowledge of Greek mythology to engage people in conversations, while Pete acts as a "waiter" at social events, offering drinks to potential contacts. These unconventional methods have helped them stand out and make valuable connections. Another key takeaway is the importance of being open to new experiences and opportunities. Stan, who hosts events for a living, invited Pete to join him, leading to new encounters and potential collaborations. Overall, the ability to adapt and find creative ways to connect with others is essential in both personal and professional growth.

    • Misunderstandings at the BAFTA red carpetFirst impressions can be misleading, and things don't always go as planned. Maintain a positive attitude and keep trying to connect with others.

Appearances can be deceiving and first impressions may not always be accurate. Sam, who thought he was hosting the BAFTA red carpet, ended up offering celebrities sweaty cheese instead. He was mistaken for a waiter by Ross Kemp and ended up serving drinks to the guests. Despite his embarrassing experiences, Sam managed to maintain a rapport with some of the guests, including Big Zoo and Rae, the singer. However, his attempts to connect with Rae through a DM did not go as planned. These incidents serve as a reminder that one should not judge situations or people based on initial assumptions and that sometimes, things don't go as planned, but it's important to keep trying and maintain a positive attitude.

    • Making Fun of Celebrities' Irrelevant ActionsSam and Pete critique celebrities for seeking attention through unnecessary actions, yet they indulge in the same behavior through their love for celebrity gossip.

The Sidebar of Shame is a concept where Sam and Pete make fun of celebrities who seek attention through irrelevant actions, using themselves as examples since they are just as guilty. During the discussion, Pete shared that he follows celebrity news on The Sun's Snapchat and is a fan of Love Island, leading to a story about Jim McLeod and his revealing outfit at the Pet Awards. India, also a Love Island alum, was involved in a feud with Jim. Both Sam and Pete acknowledged their shared love for celebrity gossip and their hypocritical behavior in judging others for their actions while engaging in similar behaviors themselves.

    • Love Island feuds: Jealousy and business opportunitiesLove Island contestants face intense competition and scrutiny, leading to frequent feuds over business opportunities and personality clashes. The pressure to succeed and lack of opportunities for some can result in feelings of bitterness and disappointment.

The intense media scrutiny and competition among Love Island contestants can lead to frequent feuds and disagreements, even after they leave the show. These feuds can stem from jealousy over business opportunities and deals, as well as personality clashes. Contestants join the show for the perks and attention it brings, and when they see others succeeding, it can create tension. Additionally, the industry is highly competitive, and not everyone will receive the same opportunities or success. The idea of a PLT deal being the ultimate prize for Love Island contestants was discussed, with the implication that the show and sponsors exploit this dynamic. Ultimately, the pressure to succeed and the lack of opportunities for some can lead to feelings of bitterness and disappointment.

    • Struggling with Identity and Seeking ValidationBrooklyn Beckham's journey shows how societal expectations and family background can influence self-perception, leading to a constant search for relevance and validation. Wealth and privilege can also impact personal relationships, raising questions about love, commitment, and financial security.

Identity and self-perception can be complex and influenced by various factors, including family background and societal expectations. Brooklyn Beckham, despite his famous father and numerous attempts at different careers, struggles with defining himself and being seen as more than just David Beckham's son. This can lead to a constant search for relevance and validation, even if it means adopting multiple identities or pursuing opportunities without genuine passion. Moreover, the discussion highlights the impact of wealth and privilege on personal relationships. In the Love Island example, winning the competition as a couple inevitably means splitting the prize. While some may choose to share it, there's an intriguing possibility of one partner deciding to keep it all for themselves, especially if they come from a wealthy background. This can raise questions about love, commitment, and the role of financial security in relationships. In the end, the conversation serves as a reminder that our lives and experiences are multifaceted, and understanding these complexities is essential for personal growth and navigating the world around us.

    • Engaging with Audience and Growing ReachLeave reviews, follow on social media, and engage with hosts for a more enjoyable podcast experience. Hosts shared tips on maintaining consistency and dealing with challenges.

The conversation between the podcast hosts was filled with humor and banter, but they also discussed the importance of engaging with their audience and growing their podcast's reach. They encouraged listeners to leave reviews, follow them on social media, and even imitated popular podcast voices. They also shared some interesting facts, such as a crocodile's inability to stick out its tongue and the availability of short-term health insurance plans. The hosts also shared their experiences, including the "sidebar of shame" and the challenges of maintaining a consistent podcast schedule. Despite the occasional distractions and off-topic conversations, they remained committed to providing entertaining and informative content for their audience.

Lizzie Cundy: The Most Connected Women in Show Business

Lizzie Cundy: The Most Connected Women in Show Business

Rob is joined in this episode by the original WAG, Lizzie Cundy! They talk all about media, networking and the highs and lows of being in the public eye. Lizzie also delves deep into her thoughts on the ‘Wagatha Christie’ debacle, the Depp –vs- Heard case and why she thinks the Harry and Megan interview was disrespectful and wrong.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Being a WAG was aspirational and attainable, this is why WAG’s sold papers. They became stars in their own right and people wanted to know all about their lives.
    • Lizzie believes the change she has seen in the past 30 years in media has been largely a positive thing by allowing more opportunities for more people.
    • However, Lizzie is very against the current ‘woke’ culture and what she calls the fun police. Lizzie believes in freedom of speech and doesn’t think this should be restricted just because some people may take offence.
    • You still need an agent in the world of media. To protect yourself and to stop yourself being used.
    • Lizzie found offering people help and becoming a known face is what helped her build her network, mostly because it aided her in building trust with people.
    • If you aren’t naturally outgoing, you can still be very connected but you must take your chances and push yourself out of your comfort zone.
    • Always ask the question you shouldn’t ask. This is what people want to know and get out of listening to interviews.
    • The press aren’t ‘scum’ in Lizzie’s eyes. The majority are just trying to earn a living, it’s simply a job for them. Celebrities need the press as much as the press need celebrities.
    • There’s always a way to make what you want to happen, happen. This is one of Lizzies’s mantra’s and why she is so well connected in the world.
    • Lizzie’s mechanism for dealing with criticism and hate is her sense of humour. She knows she is a good person and has good self-esteem so this alongside enjoying life helps her stay strong against any adversity.
    • For aspiring female entrepreneurs, Lizzie’s advice is to believe in yourself and to show no fear, you are as good if not better than everyone else.
