    Podcast Summary

    • Community ConnectionsNew York's mafia control weakened after Carmi Galante's murder, opening doors for law enforcement. Podcasts now cover diverse topics, including sports and reading advice, highlighting community engagement and evolving interests.

In New York City, law enforcement faced challenges due to the mafia's control, using fear to intimidate people. The situation began to change after the murder of Carmi Galante, signalling that authorities could pursue these criminals. A diverse range of podcasts is available on iHeartRadio, covering topics from sports to unique historical events and reading. One show focuses on structuring book clubs for avid readers, sharing tips on scheduling and selecting books. This illustrates the community's need for engagement and the evolution of entertainment mediums to cater to various interests, demonstrating how different cultures, whether in crime, sports, or literature, find ways to connect and share experiences.

    • Inclusive Book ClubA relaxed book club allows members to share responsibilities, enjoy discussions, and suggest future readings without pressure, making it a fun and inclusive experience.

A book club can be a relaxed and enjoyable gathering where everyone contributes ideas and discussions without any pressure. Instead of worrying about hosting, members share food and drinks while focusing on the book each month. They rotate meeting places, sometimes at homes or quiet restaurants, and plan future readings together. By allowing suggestions from all members and planning months ahead, it creates a collaborative atmosphere. Special themes may guide their choices, making book selection fun. Occasionally, they venture out to see movies based on the books they've read, further enriching their experience. This approach fosters friendship, creates a shared love for reading, and ensures everyone feels included and valued.

    • Book Club ConnectionsParenting can be tiring, causing some to abandon parenting books for relaxed book clubs. These gatherings foster friendships, inspire meaningful conversations, and provide support for those navigating similar journeys in life.

Parenting brings its challenges and can be exhausting, leading some parents to step away from reading parenting books, focusing instead on enjoying varied book club experiences with friends. Whether sharing food or selecting personal favorite reads, these gatherings are less about pressure and more about connecting over a shared love of literature. Engaging in relaxed book discussions fosters friendships, while that shared time can inspire meaningful conversations about life, struggles, and personal growth. Moments of reflection, like participating in retreats, also offer opportunities for deeper connections and understanding among parents or caregivers navigating similar journeys, making book clubs a delightful and supportive outlet.

    • Book Club RetreatsCarving out time for a book club retreat, even close to home, enriches friendships and reading experiences. Themed activities like watching adaptations and discussing new genres, such as romanticy, deepen these bonds and make reading more enjoyable.

Finding time for a retreat can be refreshing and fun, especially when it’s centered around shared interests like books. Whether it’s a cozy gathering at a lake house or a simple get-together at home, these moments are opportunities to bond, discuss stories, and enjoy each other’s company. By creating a themed experience around the books you read, whether they transport you to the mountains or by the sea, you make the gathering even more special. Incorporating activities like watching adaptations of the books adds another layer of enjoyment. Even if you can't travel far, just spending a night at someone's home can provide needed escapism. Plus, discussing various genres, like romanticy, can introduce exciting new reads to your group. Ultimately, taking time for these connections can enhance your reading experience and strengthen friendships.

    • Audiobook ExperienceAudiobooks can provide a richer experience, especially with great narrators like Meryl Streep. Choose books based on your mood, as some are uplifting while others are more serious. Shows like "Modern Love" also offer diverse stories and accents, adding to the enjoyment of storytelling.

Listening to audiobooks can offer a unique experience, especially when narrated by someone with a distinct voice, like Meryl Streep. Some books are more impactful when heard, rather than read. It's also important to choose books based on your mood, as certain stories can be heavy, while others uplift. Recommendations like "Demon Copperhead" and "The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store" highlight this diversity in emotional depth. Additionally, shows like "Modern Love" capture individual stories with various accents and styles. These platforms provide options to explore stories in different formats and tones, enhancing our understanding and enjoyment of literature and narratives.

    • Inspiration Through StoriesSharing personal stories fosters connection, resilience, and inspires others to overcome challenges. Whether discussing serious topics or enjoying leisure activities like movies and books, the conversations encourage reflection and community support during tough times.

Exploring real-life challenges can inspire others to overcome their struggles. In a podcast, Angie Martinez shares personal stories of growth, emphasizing that everyone faces difficulties but sharing these experiences can help motivate others. Additionally, discussions range from dismantling powerful crime organizations to enjoying movies and supporting local bookstores. During the holiday season, it’s also important to consider thoughtful gifts like books, whether physically or via audio formats. The importance of connection through shared experiences is highlighted, whether in tackling serious issues or simply enjoying leisure activities. Conversations in this space encourage listeners to reflect on their lives and appreciate the power of storytelling and community. Whether through podcasts or book clubs, sharing narratives can offer hope and resilience in challenging times, showing that everyone can make a difference with their story.

    • Thoughtful ConnectionsThoughtful gift-giving, personalized actions, and engaging with meaningful books can enhance connections and encourage creativity, fostering emotional well-being and appreciating relationships.

Gift giving can be made special by taking the time to personalize the presentation, as demonstrated by someone wanting to wrap gifts nicely for their sister. This awareness of how thoughtful gestures can make others feel appreciated highlights the importance of being intentional in our actions. Additionally, reading meaningful books like 'The Hiding Place' and 'The Artist's Way' can offer inspiration and foster creativity. These books encourage personal growth and remind us of the power of resilience and creativity, especially during challenging times. Engaging with such resources can help individuals rediscover their artistic sides and provide therapeutic benefits, which is crucial for emotional well-being and self-expression. Intentionality in gift-giving and self-reflection through reading are wonderful ways to connect with loved ones and nurture personal creativity.

    • Journaling and ReadingStart journaling with simple prompts and create a dedicated space for reading or writing. This fosters creativity and encourages enjoyable self-care activities in 2024.

Journaling can be an intimidating activity, but starting small can make it easier. Using simple prompts, like expressing gratitude or doing morning pages, can unlock creativity and help engage different parts of your brain. Setting aside a dedicated reading and journaling space can also encourage regular practice, allowing you to explore various genres and diverse authors as part of your self-care routine. Whether you choose to read, watch shows, or engage in other hobbies, the focus should be on enjoyment and personal fulfillment without feeling pressured to conform to certain activities. This approach not only enhances creativity but also provides valuable moments of relaxation in your day-to-day life. So, as the New Year approaches, consider how establishing a comfortable reading area and committing to journaling could enrich your experiences in 2024.

    • Podcasts UncoveredWake & Jake is Jake Storyelli's sports podcast featuring discussions on various topics, while another podcast uncovers the true story of impersonating The Zombies, showcasing interesting stories in sports and music.

Jake Storyelli shares his passion for sports through his podcast, Wake & Jake, where fans can dive into exciting discussions on various sports topics like baseball, awards, and guest interviews. New episodes are released every Monday and Wednesday, allowing fans to stay updated through multiple platforms including YouTube and major podcast services. Additionally, intriguing stories like the bizarre con of impersonating The Zombies in 1969 are highlighted in another podcast. This true story showcases the unique world of music and deception, available on iHeart. Whether it’s sports or music, these podcasts offer engaging content for listeners to enjoy and explore more about their favorite subjects.

PART 2: Do You WANT to Stop Dieting, But You Have No Idea What That Even Looks Like (and the alternative terrifies you!)? Let's Talk About It! (Outweigh)

PART 2: Do You WANT to Stop Dieting, But You Have No Idea What That Even Looks Like (and the alternative terrifies you!)? Let's Talk About It! (Outweigh)

OUTWEIGH: Leanne is back for Part 2 of this series to help you understand how to get off the diet roller coaster for good.

So many women WANT to stop dieting, but they don't know how, or they don't know what that even looks like, because it's all they've ever known.

So this idea of "food freedom" or NOT being on some sort of diet is not only foreign to them, but it's actually pretty scary, because all their brain has known is what it's like to count, measure, restrict, and control.

Or their brain knows what it's like to bounce to the opposite end of the spectrum, and end up in an uncontrollable cycle of mindless eating, emotional eating, stress eating, or binging, and they just end up feeling super out-of-control.

This week Leanne is laying out the 5 step crystal-clear path way to finally STOP dieting without feeling like you're going off the deep end if you're NOT on something.

    HOST: @leanneellington

To learn more about how to turn off the part of your brain that’s obsessed with food or obsessed with your weight and rewire your own brain for peace and freedom,....but WITHOUT restricting yourself, punishing your body, (and definitely WITHOUT ever having to use words like macros, low-carb, or calorie burn) check out Leanne's FREE Stressless Eating Webinar @ www.StresslessEating.com

Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone + Why You Should Never Kiss Your Dog + Gratitude + Mantras & Intentions for 2024 (the Year of Empowerment)

Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone + Why You Should Never Kiss Your Dog + Gratitude + Mantras & Intentions for 2024 (the Year of Empowerment)

FIRST THING: Amy read something special her sister wrote called That Time We Tore Down the Fence. Loving your neighbors well, getting outside of your comfort zone, and answering dreams, but never forgetting what you have experienced and learned and loved on the way.

SECOND THING: Taft Hansen (a medical laboratory scientist/parasitologist) is a guest for this continued conversation about parasites. He sent Amy an email after hearing her episode with Katie Decker and he wanted to contribute. They talk about why you should never kiss your dog, cooking meat properly, parasites in the brain and more.

3RD THING: Taft's wife Morgan joins in for '4 Things Gratitude' and some good movie, tv and book recommendations come up during it!

4TH THING: Amy's cousin, Amanda Rieger Green is on talking about how 2024 is the year of empowerment. She released a Numerology Guide Book that’s special for this year (an 8 year, BTW) and people are loving it, so Amanda gave us the details & also shared with us some mantras and intentions that are good for us to use this year specifically!

What to Do When You Feel Misunderstood (5th Thing)

What to Do When You Feel Misunderstood (5th Thing)

Amy & Cryo Kat (Therapy Kat is on her honeymoon!!) are back together again talking about a recent sacrifice that was made in the name of their friendship + things you can say when you're feeling misunderstood + their obsession with things like AlphaTenn Bars & ground beef & the 'cocaine queen.'

PART 1: Do You WANT to Stop Dieting, But You Have No Idea What That Even Looks Like (and the alternative terrifies you!)? Let's Talk About It! (Outweigh)

OUTWEIGH: So many women WANT to stop dieting, but they don't know how, or they don't know what that even looks like, because it's all they've ever known.

But again, NOT being ON something scares them, because when they are not ON, they are totally OFF, and as you can imagine, it's one massive vicious cycle and downward spiral.

And because this topic truly is multi-faceted, Leanne broke it up into 2 parts. Part 1 is about the mindset and heartset and brainset shifts that need to happen to make the strategy-side-of-things Leanne will share in Part 2 even possible.

So enjoy this episode, and make sure to come back next week where Leanne is going to break it down into 5 crystal clear steps of what that actually looks like to heal from the diet mentality for good.

Elevate Your Confidence, Style & Power with This Life-Changing Tip

Elevate Your Confidence, Style & Power with This Life-Changing Tip

Amy just discovered color matching & it's blown her mind. Her guest, Hannah Garber (a color analyst) breaks it all down for us. Amy met Hannah after she booked an appointment to find out her "season" (she learned she's a 'cool summer' palette, btw) and when Hannah told Amy her underlying skin tone was one that radiates in NAVY BLUE & NOT BLACK Amy was fascinated! She knew she wanted Hannah on the podcast ASAP. Why are we just now learning about this? In a nutshell, we all have certain colors that give us the power to show up with more confidence and look our best. Everything from the way we color our hair, to our makeup choices, the clothing we wear, nail color, jewelry etc..

Amy & Hannah talk about the colors/seasons (winter, summer, spring & autumn), confidence, capsule wardrobes (imagine if getting dressed was easy!!), the science behind it all, how Hollywood uses color matching for character building (shout out Anne Hathoway in Devil Wears Prada) & so much more (like memories of our moms with their signature lip colors & how switching your mascara color from black to brown is a game-changer or vice versa...it all depends on the "season" that you are!)

DM Hannah on IG. She'd love to hear from you: @houseofcolournashville_hannah

How Gwyneth Paltrow Releases Anger & Do You Rank Your Friends? (5th Thing)

How Gwyneth Paltrow Releases Anger & Do You Rank Your Friends? (5th Thing)

Today’s quote is from Ally Fallon: “You rarely know the whole story already – when things don’t make sense it’s usually because there’s missing data, untapped information. Maybe someone is keeping something from you, maybe you’re keeping something from yourself. Maybe certain things are none of your business - and maybe you need to wait a little longer to collect more puzzle pieces.”

What are the facts in the story you’ve built in your head? Practice patience – the other pieces of the puzzle are coming.

Amy & Kat “popcorn” through different topics:

    • How Kat’s feeling leading up to her wedding!
    • What’s the right way to order your bridesmaids/groomsmen?
    • Survey: 1/3 of Americans feel lonely at least once per week
    • Filling your cup with connection & community
    • Horrible hygiene habits that are way too common
    • Gwyneth Paltrow uses a baseball bat to release anger
    • Emotional intelligence quiz
    • Gaslighting and the Keanu Reeves mindset (2+2=5)

Will Amy make 2024 the year of no shoes in her house? Only time will tell :)

Wishing Kat a happy wedding week!!! Check out her episode about The Loneliness Epidemic on You Need Therapy.
