803 What It Takes To Be a Champion

    enMay 29, 2019
What qualities define champions according to the athletes?
How do athletes emphasize the importance of respect?
What is considered crucial for overcoming insecurities?
Why is mental toughness important for success?
What drives athletes to continually strive for improvement?

    • Champions are more than just winnersFemale champions stress the importance of respect, learning from losses, mental toughness, and authenticity in achieving greatness.

That champions are not just those who win, but those with the most courage. This was emphasized by various female athletes and champions, including Maria Sharapova, Katrin Davidsdottir, Michelle Waterson, Sasha Diujan, Brooke and Susan Elite, Emily Skye, and Danica Patrick. They shared valuable insights on the importance of respecting opponents, learning from losses, and stepping into one's greatness by embracing authenticity. They also emphasized the importance of mental toughness, conditioning the mind against pressure, and overcoming insecurities. Ultimately, the champions emphasized that becoming great requires courage, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

    • The drive to win and improve in tennisPassion for the sport and personal accomplishment fuel dedication and hard work for improvement and success.

The drive to win and be the best comes from a deep love for the sport and the feeling of improvement and challenge it brings. The speaker emphasizes that showing up isn't enough, and winning is a personal accomplishment that requires dedication and hard work. Additionally, she expresses a regret for not learning more languages when young and acknowledges that true balance between career and personal life may not exist. Ultimately, the speaker's passion for tennis and the thrill of winning drives her to continually strive for improvement and success.

    • Focus solely on your craft for optimal performanceTo be the best, dedicate all aspects of life to improving skills, prioritize sleep and diet, pay attention to details, and control your efforts

To be the best in your field, you need to give it your all and focus solely on your craft. This means sacrificing balance and dedicating every aspect of your life to improving your skills. Prioritizing sleep and diet are crucial for recovery and optimal performance. Additionally, paying attention to the seemingly insignificant details can make a significant impact on your progress. It's important to remember that you can't control others or the outcome, but you can control your efforts and focus on what you can change. By doing so, your mind will stay clear, allowing you to make progress towards your goals.

    • Building Confidence and Strong Relationships for Success in Challenging EndeavorsConfidence comes from within, respect opponents but give your best, mental toughness is crucial for dealing with pressures in challenging endeavors

Developing deep, genuine confidence and strong relationships are crucial for success in any challenging endeavor, such as professional fighting. Confidence comes from within and can help silence self-doubt and anxiety. Respecting opponents is essential, but it doesn't mean holding back or giving less than your best during a competition. Instead, it's about recognizing that both parties are there to give their best effort and not doing them a disservice by not giving it your all. Building mental toughness and being able to deal with external and internal pressures are also essential elements of success in such high-stakes situations.

    • Believe in yourself and stay focused during challengesStaying focused and believing in oneself can lead to success, even during difficult climbs. Trust the process and keep trying different solutions.

No matter how high the obstacles or how difficult the climb, staying focused and believing in oneself can lead to success. The speaker draws parallels between climbing and life, emphasizing the importance of staying focused during challenging moments, trying different solutions, and trusting the process. Climbing also teaches the value of using your entire body and staying open to new possibilities. The speaker shares that even in the face of setbacks, such as injuries, there is often a reason or lesson to be learned. By trusting the universe and the timing of life, one can find meaning in seemingly negative experiences and continue to move forward.

    • Finding self-care and growth through inner strugglesRecognize that every moment offers an opportunity to make a positive choice and embrace self-worth, even during inner struggles

Life sometimes requires us to slow down and face our inner struggles in order to grow and become better versions of ourselves. The speaker shares her experience of feeling overwhelmed and in need of self-care after constant traveling. She saw her situation as a sign to listen to her body and deal with the negative thoughts and lies she had been telling herself. She found help through talking to trusted people, reading books, and recognizing that every moment presents an opportunity to make a positive choice. For those struggling with self-doubt or imposter syndrome, the speaker encourages the belief that every moment is a chance to change the narrative and embrace self-worth.

    • Embrace Your SuccessesAccepting successes and focusing on personal growth, rather than negative self-talk or external criticism, inspires others and builds resilience.

It's important to acknowledge and accept our successes, rather than focusing on negative self-talk or external criticism. This not only helps us grow personally, but also inspires others and builds resilience against judgment and criticism, especially in the age of social media. It's crucial to remember that people will have varying opinions about us, and we have the power to choose not to let their thoughts define us. By sharing our struggles with friends and learning to let go of negative self-talk and external criticism, we can move forward and focus on being the best version of ourselves. It's a process that can be challenging, but ultimately leads to greater self-confidence and personal growth.

    • Embracing Adversity and Focusing on Personal GrowthLearning from mistakes, focusing on happiness, staying true to oneself, building self-belief, surrounding oneself with positivity, and understanding that perfection isn't the goal are keys to overcoming challenges and achieving long-term success.

Learning from failures and adversity is essential for long-term success. The speakers shared their experiences of making mistakes, feeling insecure, and learning to invest in themselves to overcome challenges. They emphasized the importance of identifying what truly makes us happy and focusing on personal growth. When faced with comparisons and fears, it's crucial to understand that everyone's journey is unique, and it's essential to stay true to oneself. The speakers also suggested working on self-belief, surrounding oneself with positive influences, and realizing that perfection is not the ultimate goal. By embracing adversity and focusing on personal growth, we can build the foundation for a fulfilling and successful life.

    • Rediscovering joy and prioritizing it in lifeFocus on activities that bring long-term happiness, set boundaries, and avoid detrimental activities to improve overall well-being.

Finding what truly makes you happy and prioritizing it in your life is essential for long-term well-being, rather than relying on temporary sources of pleasure. The speaker shares her personal experience of getting stuck in a low point and how she used dancing, getting outside, and finding her creative outlets to lift her mood and rediscover what brings her joy. She emphasizes the importance of setting boundaries and avoiding activities that can be detrimental to our well-being, such as excessive use of social media. Ultimately, it's crucial to find what resonates with us and makes us feel alive, whether it's through physical activity, creativity, or helping others. By doing so, we can regain our motivation and get back on track towards living a fulfilling life.

    • Be Brave and Go After What You WantTrue champions are defined by courage and determination, not just wins or talents. Be vulnerable, take risks, and embrace the journey to make a difference.

True champions are not defined by their wins or talents, but by their courage and determination. You may not have all the skills or resources that others have, but what sets you apart is the amount of effort and guts you put into pursuing your goals. Be vulnerable and put yourself out there, even if it means taking risks. The person with the most guts often inspires more than the person with the most talent. So go out there and make a difference, no matter what challenges you face. Remember, it's not about being perfect, it's about being brave and going after what you want. Embrace the journey and keep pushing forward. You have the power to make something great happen.

"There are a lot of little things we can do inside of our mind, where yeah, you got to be ready and willing to go to war with yourself if you want to become a better or a better person in general. And that's just the bottom line."- Jason Priest, Episode 107

“To keep the body in good health is a duty…otherwise we shall not be able to keep the mind strong and clear.” – Buddha

“Divide each difficulty into as many parts as is feasible and necessary to resolve it, and watch the whole transform.” – Rene Descartes
