    About this Episode

Steph became friends with Tracey through their mother's group - you may remember her from a previous KICBUMP episode titled "Postpartum, poop and prams" with another friend  Emma. In today's episode, Steph wanted to chat to Tracey about something that almost none of us have experienced but so many of us are curious about or at the very least fascinated by - home births.

Tracey's story is just incredible. She birthed her 4 month old son Airlie at home (which was planned), but without any midwives present (which was definitely unplanned)! Hear how she educated herself on home births, what she equipped herself with in the lead up, how she attained her midwives and her advice for any mums looking at this as an option for their birth plan.

And on another note, we love hearing your 'Toddler Tantrum Tales'! If your toddler has cracked it over something hilarious (like not being allowed to eat the dog food or crying over some broken eggs that they sat on) please send yours in to us @kicpod on Instagram. Voice notes and written messages welcome! 🥰

Birth story, prolapse & baby Parker - KICBUMP with Brooke Jowett

Brooke Jowett is a Kic trainer and an Australian Survivor All Star. Six months ago she and her partner Chris welcomed their first bub, Parker, into the world and it’s safe to say they’re obsessed.

As a trainer, "the Kic HIIT girl", and a keen runner, Brooke ran until she was 26 weeks pregnant when it stopped feeling right for her body. Now she’s back running, taking it one run at a time.

Brooke joins Steph to share about her birth story, her bladder prolapse, her gradual return to running, running with a pessary, and the joy that Parker has brought into her life. They also get into the TMI: what was your first poo like after giving birth? Can you feel your pessary when you have sex? Your waters broke where!?

Laura was so tired she did THIS to Dalton in her sleep

We’re a bit delulu this week! It’s the Kic shoot week so we’re a bit tired. But not as tired as Laura’s husband Dalton who was woken up in the night by Laura doing….WHAT?...in her sleep!?

Plus Steph saw a woman having the time of her life singing out loud and strutting along a busy street and we asked you what has brought you joy recently. Please share with us in the KICPOD Facebook group if you’ve seen something that made you smile recently.

Then we turn the delulu up to 11 and discuss the very important topic of public toilet etiquette: do you sit on, hover over, or line the toilet seat? Are you shaking or drying your hands? And would you answer your phone when you’re on the loo?

Only 20% of women invest. Here’s why you shouldn’t be scared of it, with Girls That Invest founder Simran Kaur

Only 20% of women invest. Here’s why you shouldn’t be scared of it, with Girls That Invest founder Simran Kaur

Simran Kaur’s mission is to put money into the hands of women through investing.

Most of us haven’t been taught about investing. If you haven’t, you might think it’s too hard, or too risky, or our parents told us to save our money so that’s what we’ve always done. This means that only 15-20% of women invest worldwide and in Australia only 42% of women invest compared to 58% of men, citing affordability as their main barrier to investing (according to ASX Australian Investor Study).

Simran is here to change that. She is the founder of Girls That Invest: a multi-million-dollar money media company with the #1 investing podcast for women where she breaks down the intimating world of investing and growing wealth, minus the jargon.

In this episode, Sim joins Steph & Laura from New Zealand to walk us through investing for a first timer: the difference in returns between saving vs investing, the different places you can invest, how long you need to keep your money in each investment, and the risk profile for each, why investing even a small amount is better than nothing, and how to get started if you truly feel like you know nothing.

The advice in this episode is not personalised investing advice and is educational in nature. Remember to do your research and speak to a financial advisor for your personal situation.

Steph’s oldest friend reveals what they did when they were teenagers

Steph’s oldest friend reveals what they did when they were teenagers

We share a lot on this podcast. But even after so many years of friendship, there are still stories we’ve never told each other…and stories we’ve forgotten that our friends and family would love to remind us of. So in today’s podcast we call Steph’s oldest friend Martha to find out what Steph did at a sleepover in year eight.

And Laura reflects on decision making, doing the “right” thing, and worrying about what people will think, as she unpacks two parts of the Mel Robbins’ podcast episode with Steven Bartlett that she recommended last week.

If you’re making a big decision - this is the pump up you’re looking for!

Do I or don't I want kids? - KICBUMP with Laura Henshaw

Do I or don't I want kids? - KICBUMP with Laura Henshaw

The decision to have kids is one of the biggest ones we’ll ever make. Last year Laura opened up about this decision, weighing up what it would mean to her career and her identity, what scares her about having kids, and her fear of leaving it too long. We know this is a question on so many people’s minds, which is why we want to create a podcast miniseries asking the questions we can’t find anywhere else.

In today’s special episode, Laura is back on KICBUMP to share her plans for a new miniseries exploring the decision to have kids from multiple perspectives, from people who didn’t want kids and had them, to people who did want kids and never had them, how they decided and how they feel about it now.

And we want to hear from you: what do you want to hear in the miniseries? Who do you want to hear from? What’s holding you back? What pushed you to make a decision?

Reach out via Laura’s Instagram @laura.henshaw and KICPOD @kicpod

We can’t wait to share it with you.

This episode includes snippets from the following KICPOD episodes (in order)

Laura expresses her fear of not coping (September 2023)

The secret to freedom is discipline with Alexis Fernandez

The secret to freedom is discipline with Alexis Fernandez

The more control you have in your life, the more free you are. It may sound counter-intuitive, but it’s true, and in this episode Alexis tells us why.

Alexis Fernandez is the host of the podcast Do You F*ing Mind, she has a Masters of Neuroscience, she's obsessed with the brain, and thankfully for us, she is REALLY good at explaining how it works. We wanted to speak with her about discipline and oh boy...did she blow our minds 🤯

In this episode, Alexis explains why discipline isn't something to be scared of and how it gives you more control and freedom to choose the life you want.

Plus Alexis shares how she used discipline in her own life to get over a breakup, level up her career and transform her life.

If you’re married and having sex in the kitchen - good for you!

If you’re married and having sex in the kitchen - good for you!

Tell us you’re married without telling us you’re married. In a recent wardrobe clean out, Laura discovered an old drawer of sexy underwear (aka: barely there lace underwear that would give you thrush by looking at it) and realised she’s happy to never wear it again. If you’re in a long term relationship and you’re getting dressed up or having sex anywhere that’s not a bed with sheets on it - good for you!

Then we open the KICMAIL Box and hear what you think of our book reccos, pelvic pain and break up stories, and how you’re smashing the Kic run program.

And we introduce a new NICHE segment. If you have cracked heels, this one’s for you. Check out Power Podiatry if you’re interested: https://www.powerpodiatrybrighton.com.au/contact

We’ve had enough of the “legging legs” trend

If you have legs…you have legging legs. That’s it. In our catch up today we chat about the viral TikTok body trend "legging legs" aka what Millennials will remember as the "thigh gap". Thankfully the search term has been banned by TikTok and we hope this is the first and last time we speak about it. Our bodies aren’t trends and leggings are for everyone.
