On Side A we revisit The Cardigans. We have featured The Cardigans before and their brilliant cover of Black Sabbath’s “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.” This time, the Cardigans are covering Kraftwerk – a German band known for being the innovators and pioneers of electronic music. Our Side B takes us down South to New Orleans and Alabama as we discuss Fats Domino’s easy going, boogie-woogie version of Hank William’s Jambalaya. We hope you enjoy! Thanks for listening. 

Episode 37 is going to make you feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. On Side A we talk about one of Amanda's favorite new artists, the Canadian singer/songwriter, Charlotte Cornfield, and her cover of Lucinda William’s “Fruits of My Labor.”  Amanda was first drawn to Cornfield when she heard the song, “Pac-Man” which has quickly become a staple on her playlists . Our Side B features a conversation with Matt about Joy Division who were pioneers of the post-punk movement and LCD Soundsystem’s cover of “No Love Lost.” Here at Cover Story, we are huge LCD Soundsystem fans & can’t wait to banter with The Boner about this band. Today’s episode is one that Amanda has been waiting to record, perhaps, since the 7th grade which was when she first got her hands on one of her favorite cassette tapes of all time: The Pixies Doolittle. On Side A we talk about Nada Surf’s cover of the seminal classic by The Pixies, "Where is my mind?".  And, as promised on our last episode, we are going to take Filler out of his comfort zone as we bust out the tie dye and strap on our Birkenstocks to talk about one of my favorite covers of all time: Grateful Dead’s version of Broken Arrow. Episode 35 was a delight to record. Our Side A features a beautiful cover of Paul Simon’s Graceland by Justin Townes Earle - a brilliant songwriter who built his own legend but couldn’t outrun the darkness that came with it. Our Side B features legendary singer, songwriter, and musician Chris Cornell and his band Soundgarden. Their song Black Hole Sun was covered beautifully by the jazz pianist Brad Mehldau. Episode 34 is vibrant: Our Side A features, Kendrick Lamar, one of the most talented and poetic hip hop MC’s of the past decade taking inspiration from one of Filler’s favorite jazz guitarists Grant Greene.  Our Side B has our volume set to 11 as we discuss Metallica and their latest album, Blacklist, which features a ridiculous number of covers. This episode also brings back our “Call in Listener” segment as Johnny Night Train, from the band Jet Ransom, gives us a call to wax poetic about Cliff Burton, the original bassist from Metallica. 

The episode features a band that inspired us to "Get Back" in the recording studio for Cover Story!   We kick off the episode talking about The Beatles cover of Buddy Holly’s “Crying, Waiting, Hoping” on our Side A.  And, to further wet your whistle, Side B features a very hip cover cover cover of Leonard Cohen’s Lover Lover Lover…We hope you enjoy Episode #33.

Cover Story is back with all new episodes! We are kicking off the 2nd Season of Cover Story with a very vibrant episode: “Nature is Funny." Our Side B takes us from the gritty, early days of Punk where we zero in on Iggy Pop and The Stooges and their incredible influence on some of our favorite musicians like Kurt Cobain, Joey Ramone, and Patti Smith. Our Side A takes us on a circuitous route to Nigeria as co-host Matt Filler connects the dots from David Byrne to Hot Chip and helps answer the question, “Who was William Onyeabor and why is his song, 'Atomic Bomb', so good?” And, since this is our first episode after a two year Covid induced hiatus, we also enjoy a brief return to Muff’s Corner…Won’t you join us? 

Episode 31 is super dynamic as our Side B takes us 50 years back in time to talk about Woodstock, the most important music festival of all time, and some legendary cover songs that catapulted little known artists at the time like Joe Cocker and Santana into mainstream rockstars. Our Side A takes us not nearly as far back but still feels like a time warp as Filler talks about one of Amanda's  favorite bands from her formative years New Order and a brilliant cover of their song Ceremony.

Our side B features a cover song on an album than many perceive and believe to be the greatest album of all time. We dive into the Beach Boys Pet Sounds and their cover of the popular song, Sloop John B.
