    • Packers' winning streak not a finished product, Bears-Buccaneers game unpredictableThe Packers' recent success doesn't guarantee a championship, while the Bears-Buccaneers game is predicted to be a close, low-scoring affair with crucial roles for both teams' kickers.

The Green Bay Packers' recent winning streak doesn't necessarily mean they're a finished product, as their performance against the Chargers could have had a drastically different outcome. The Chicago Bears' upcoming game against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is predicted to be a close, low-scoring affair, with the outcome potentially depending on Brady's mental and physical abilities as he ages. Billy's prediction, despite his lack of NFL expertise, is that the Bears' kickers will play a crucial role in the game. The Bears' performance in recent games, despite some early struggles, has shown signs of improvement, and their ability to win games in unexpected ways has raised questions about their potential as a contender. The unpredictability of NFL games and the impact of key moments, such as Tom Brady's potential mental errors, make the outcome of the Bears vs. Buccaneers game an intriguing prospect.

    • Bears upset Bucs with Foles' leadership and dominant defenseNick Foles led the Bears to an upset win over the Bucs, with Khalil Mack's defense dominating Tom Brady and the Bucs' offense, but Matt Nagy's questionable decisions and Bruce Arians' confusing play calling added complexity to the game.

The Chicago Bears, led by quarterback Nick Foles and a dominant defensive performance, upset the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in an unexpected turn of events. Foles, known for his cool demeanor and efficient play, showed his ability to lead the team despite some early struggles. The Bears' defense, spearheaded by Khalil Mack, was a force to be reckoned with, sacking Tom Brady and shutting down the Bucs' offense. However, Matt Nagy's questionable decision-making, such as calling for Allen Robinson back shoulder passes that have been intercepted multiple times, was a concern. Bruce Arians' confusing play calling and decision making on 4th down also played a role in the game. Despite these issues, the Bears managed to secure a win, marking their return to form. The team will look to build on this momentum as they face the next opponents on their schedule.

    • Struggles of NFL Coaches and TeamsDespite unexpected challenges, fans and analysts remain invested in the NFL season's unpredictable twists and turns, including coaches like Matt Patricia, Dan Quinn, and teams dealing with COVID-19 issues.

The NFL season is progressing with unexpected twists and turns, leaving fans and analysts alike grappling with the performance of certain teams and coaches. The discussion touched upon the struggles of Matt Patricia with the Detroit Lions, the potential end for Dan Quinn with the Atlanta Falcons, and the ongoing COVID-19 issues with the Tennessee Titans. Public universities were also mentioned as a source of debate, with no clear consensus on their merits. The conversation revealed that even successful coaches like Patricia and Quinn face challenges, with Patricia dealing with a struggling team and Quinn potentially on the hot seat. The Titans, meanwhile, found themselves in hot water due to COVID-19 protocol violations, leading some to call for the cancellation of their season. Despite these challenges, fans and analysts remain invested in their favorite teams, with some expressing a soft spot for underperforming teams and coaches. The unpredictability of the NFL season keeps everyone on the edge of their seats, eager to see what twists and turns lie ahead. In the end, the NFL season continues to be a rollercoaster ride of excitement, disappointment, and uncertainty, leaving fans and analysts alike eager for the next game.

    • NFL Season Amidst COVID-19: Uncertainty and ControversyAmidst COVID-19, the NFL season faces uncertainty with positive tests, accusations, and potential changes to determine the winner.

The ongoing COVID-19 situation in the NFL is causing a lot of uncertainty and anxiety among fans and teams alike. Some people are overreacting to positive tests and predicting the end of the season, while others are downplaying the importance of following protocols. There have been accusations of virus shaming and conspiracy theories about teams manipulating test results. The Titans' situation, being complicated by a former Patriots player, has added fuel to the fire. The Chiefs and Raiders are also under scrutiny due to their upcoming games and potential outbreaks. The NFL is considering alternative ways to determine the season's winner if too many games get canceled. The situation is challenging for data scientists and broadcasters, and some teams are struggling with short schedules and time changes. Overall, the NFL season is proving to be unpredictable and full of twists and turns.

    • NFL Season Surprises: Cardinals, Jets, Steelers, Rams, and MoreThe NFL season offers unpredictability with teams like the Cardinals, Jets, Steelers, Rams, and Texans showcasing unexpected performances and changes in team dynamics. Veteran quarterbacks like Joe Flacco and Ben Roethlisberger remain viable options, while young stars like Joe Burrow continue to impress.

The NFL season continues to surprise with unexpected performances and changes in team dynamics. The Cardinals, for instance, have a chance to prove their legitimacy with a win against the Jets and their veteran quarterback Joe Flacco. The Jets' offensive coordinator, Dowell Loggins, has a history of working with quarterbacks, but his tenure with the Bears was not successful. Flacco, despite his age and past performance, has a "jersey edge" according to DK Metcalf, making him a short-term viable option. The Steelers, led by Ben Roethlisberger, who missed last week's game due to injury, are favored against the Eagles in the Battle of Pennsylvania. The Rams and Washington Football Team feature Dwayne Haskins, who was recently demoted to third string, but Kyle Allen's past successes make him a potential dark horse. The Ravens, led by the spread god Joe Burrow, are favored against the Bengals, but Burrow's impressive 4-0 record against the spread adds an interesting twist. The Texans, under interim coach Romeo Crennel, are an uncertain team, with Crennel providing less of a spark than some interim coaches. Ultimately, the NFL season continues to provide unexpected twists and turns, making every game an opportunity for teams to prove themselves.

    • Impact of player-coach dynamics and upcoming NFL matchupsPlayers can influence coaching changes and NFL games hinge on key matchups, while family bonds and team camaraderie are essential for success.

The dynamic between coaches and players can significantly impact a team's performance. The discussion highlighted the influence JJ Watt had in getting rid of Bill O'Brien in Houston, demonstrating the power players hold in challenging authority when they feel it's necessary. Additionally, the anticipation for key NFL matchups, such as the Colts vs. Browns and Giants vs. Cowboys, was expressed, with expectations for the Browns to prove themselves as a legitimate contender and the Giants facing criticism for their poor performance. Furthermore, the importance of family and camaraderie was emphasized, with Stefon Diggs and his brother's connection serving as an example. Overall, the Browns' potential playoff run and the impact of player-coach relationships were the main themes of the conversation.

He also mentions his love for home dogs and reveals his can't-lose parlay consisting of Cowboys, Niners, Chiefs, and Seahawks. The speaker is confident in these picks and even mentions that he's willing to accept being wrong on some bets as part of the process. Additionally, he discusses the potential impact of Hurricane Delta on the Chiefs game and adjusts his bets accordingly. The conversation showcases the speaker's enthusiasm and dedication to football betting.

    • Exploring the excitement of can't lose parlaysCan't lose parlays should be seen as entertainment, not a serious money-making strategy. Bet responsibly and only what you can afford to lose.

Parlay betting in sports can be an exciting way to potentially win big with a small investment, but it's important to do it responsibly and not bet more than you can afford to lose. The speaker mentioned the concept of "can't lose parlays," where you bet on multiple teams to win, and emphasized that it should be seen as entertainment rather than a way to make serious money. They also shared some humorous anecdotes about various topics, including raking leaves, football, and texting emojis, during a segment called "Fantasy Fathers." Overall, the conversation was lighthearted and emphasized the importance of enjoying the experience of sports betting while being mindful of the potential risks.

    • Bears' Offense Underperforming Due to Inconsistent Play Calling and PacingThe Bears need to shift towards a more pass-heavy approach and increase their play rate to better utilize Foles' skills and elevate their offense, while also considering the human element of keeping linemen engaged.

The Chicago Bears' offense is underperforming due to their inconsistent play calling and pacing, specifically with their run-pass split and the slow tempo of their offense. Despite having Nick Foles as their quarterback, who was brought in to improve their passing game, the Bears' offense is still relying too heavily on running the ball. This approach is not only inefficient, but it also puts Foles in unfavorable third down situations and hinders his ability to get into a rhythm. The Bears need to shift towards a more pass-heavy approach and increase their play rate to better utilize Foles' skills and elevate their offense. However, there is a human element to consider as well. Committing to the run can help keep offensive linemen engaged and maintain their strength by allowing them to run block instead of constantly pass blocking. But, from an analytical standpoint, teams should not commit to the run if they are struggling with it. Instead, they should aim for a balanced approach to keep their linemen engaged while still prioritizing passing in situations where it is more efficient.

    • Improving pass protection through aggressionBeing aggressive in pass protection can significantly boost a team's passing game, increase morale, and lead to more yards gained and fewer third down situations. Top teams are passing more frequently on first and second down to increase their pass rates and improve overall offensive success.

Teaching offensive linemen to be aggressive and engaged in pass protection can significantly improve a team's passing game. This strategy allows linemen to attack pass rushers even while using pass protection techniques, boosting morale and effectiveness. The neutral situation pass rates, or the frequency of passing on first and second down, have emerged as a key factor in offensive success. Top teams are passing more frequently on these downs, and even a small increase in pass attempts can move a team up the league ranks. For instance, if a team throws one additional pass out of ten on first down, they can increase their pass rate from 49% to 60%, which can lead to more yards gained and fewer third down situations. Moreover, some teams are adopting a more conservative passing approach on first down, throwing shorter passes to ensure success, while saving more aggressive plays for second down to avoid third downs. This approach can help keep teams on schedule and improve overall scoring. As for teams that may not reflect their records accurately, one team that might be underperforming is the New York Giants, despite their 2-2 record. On the other hand, the New Orleans Saints, with a 2-3 record, might be overperforming due to their impressive offensive output.

    • NFL Records May Not Reflect True AbilitiesThe Eagles' struggles and Titans' undefeated record may not accurately represent their teams' abilities, while some teams like the Bills, Seahawks, and Packers have been efficient with increased points due to fewer holding calls and aggressive 4th downs.

The records of some NFL teams may not accurately reflect their true abilities. The Philadelphia Eagles, despite their current struggles with injuries and a new coaching staff, are believed to be better than their record suggests. Conversely, the Tennessee Titans, who are currently undefeated, may not be as good as their record indicates due to close wins and potential COVID-19 issues. Additionally, there has been a trend of overs in NFL games this season, with a lack of holding calls on offense contributing to increased point production. Teams like the Buffalo Bills, Seattle Seahawks, and Green Bay Packers have been particularly efficient, and the increasing aggression on 4th downs has also led to more points for bettors.

    • Teams converting 4th downs leads to increased scoring in NFL gamesConverting 4th downs boosts points in NFL games, especially on 1st-yard situations, but failure to convert can result in zero points and impact betting odds.

Teams going for it on 4th down and converting has led to an increase in points scored in NFL games. This trend is particularly noticeable on 4th and 1 situations, where the conversion rate is high. However, the risk of not scoring any points if the team fails to convert, especially when they are within field goal range, is a downside. Additionally, the value for betting on game totals, or overs, has decreased as odds makers have responded to the trend of increased scoring by setting higher total points lines. There is no evidence that uniform colors impact game outcomes, but some teams, like the Dolphins, have struggled consistently regardless of their record or uniform color. Another factor, turnover luck, has also been monitored but its impact on game outcomes is not mentioned in detail.

    • The impact of turnovers on football gamesTeams that recover turnovers and convert them into points have a significant advantage. Understanding opposing team's tendencies and developing players' skills to be around the ball can help create more turnovers.

Turnover luck is a real and significant factor in football games, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. Teams that recover turnovers more frequently, especially when they turn those takeaways into points, can gain a significant advantage. This is due in part to the expectation that one team will recover the ball more often than the other, but also because certain teams and players seem to have a knack for being around the ball. This skill can be developed through film study and understanding the opposing team's tendencies. Additionally, players like Tyron Matthews, who are often described as having a "nose for the football," may actually possess a unique ability to consistently be in the right place at the right time. However, it's important to note that turnover luck can also become turnover habit, and some players seem to consistently create opportunities for themselves. The Dallas Cowboys' current struggles on defense may be due in part to poor decision making from the coaching staff, but their inability to create turnovers and capitalize on them has likely contributed to their struggles as well.

    • The Washington Football Team's decision to bench and release Dwayne HaskinsThe team prioritized building a winning culture and accountability over keeping an inconsistent quarterback, despite high expectations and limited options.

The Washington Football Team's decision to bench and eventually release quarterback Dwayne Haskins was likely due to his inability to respond to coaching and execute consistently. The team had high expectations for Haskins but grew frustrated with his failure to make the necessary improvements. The lack of preseason work and the presence of more experienced options, such as Cam Newton, may have also influenced the decision. Ultimately, the team prioritized building a winning culture and accountability over keeping a quarterback who was not meeting their expectations. The team's difficult schedule and injuries on both sides of the ball also played a role in their record, but the defense's poor performance and Haskins' inconsistent play were major concerns. The team's decision to bring in Newton instead of relying on Haskins shows their commitment to finding a solution at the quarterback position.

    • Washington's Decision on Cam NewtonThe Washington Football Team didn't sign Cam Newton due to long-term plans, Newton's unwillingness to compete, and complications from the pandemic and injury.

The Washington Football Team's decision not to sign Cam Newton was not solely based on locker room chemistry concerns, but also considering the team's long-term quarterback plans and Newton's unwillingness to compete for the starting job. The team's lack of preseason and training camp due to the pandemic and Newton's injury further complicated the situation. Despite popular belief, it's unlikely that all 32 teams passed on Newton, and the Washington Football Team, under Ron Rivera, might have had unique reasons for not pursuing him. Ultimately, the team's decision to bench Dwayne Haskins and potentially bring in another quarterback is driven by his inability to respond to coaching and the team's belief that they have a chance to win the NFC East with a different quarterback.

    • Washington's intentions to build a franchise may signal the end for Dwayne HaskinsThe Washington Football Team's recent draft pick and intentions to build a franchise may indicate that Dwayne Haskins is not their long-term solution at quarterback.

The Washington Football Team likely gave Dwayne Haskins every opportunity to succeed, but based on current performance, it seems unlikely that he is their long-term solution at quarterback. With the team's intentions to build a franchise and their recent draft pick signifying a potential shift, fans may want to mentally prepare for moving on from Haskins. As for Sunday Night Football, the Seahawks are favored by 7 points against the Vikings, but the Vikings' offense, led by Justin Jefferson, has been quietly impressive with the highest early down success rate in the league. Kirk Cousins' performance in prime-time games is a question mark, as he has struggled in the past due to external pressures and changes to his daily routine.

    • Seahawks-Vikings game could be high-scoringBoth teams may prioritize scoring, but rain and coaching decisions could limit total points

The Seahawks offense has the potential for a high-scoring game against the Minnesota Vikings, as both defenses may be vulnerable. The Seahawks had five trips to the red zone result in field goals against the Miami Dolphins, raising questions about the Vikings' aggression in similar situations. Rain could be a factor, with lighter rain potentially helping players on the ground, but heavier rain making it more difficult for quarterbacks, especially those who struggle in such conditions. Russell Wilson, for example, has not performed well in the rain. Coaching philosophy can also impact the total points, as some coaches may opt for a more conservative approach in rainy conditions, leading to fewer points overall. The Seahawks-Vikings game could be entertaining if both teams prioritize scoring, but rain and coaching decisions could potentially limit the total.

    Ep 29 Being a Mompreneur

    Ep 29 Being a Mompreneur

Welcome to episode twenty-nine of the Honest Mamas Podcast! Today, we speak to Angela Jia Kim. Angela Jia Kim’s passion for beauty began with her mom. “Koreans are obsessed with their skin, and my mom always had something new sent over from her sisters in Seoul,” she says.

“I would play with her creams that were filled with ingredients like gold and silkworm cocoons.” Angela spent her early career as an award-winning concert pianist, until one day, onstage in front of hundreds of people, a so-called natural lotion she had applied made her break out in hives. Horrified, she began to study ingredients and craft her own skin care products in her kitchen. “I added luxury ingredients with tremendous skin benefits like champagne, caviar, and truffles,” she says.

“I infused them with organic extracts for anti-aging results.” She started gifting these products to friends, and they wanted to buy them as gifts for their friends. She became the “accidental entrepreneur.”

"I wanted to incorporate the Korean beauty rituals that I grew up with. But as a busy mom and wife living the gorgeous chaos of New York City, I needed flawless skin in a New York minute. And it must be organic and it must work."

Now Angela runs a group of holistic facial spas in New York City's West Village and Upper West Side, and in upstate New York. She continues to develop luxe organic products in the Beauty Kitchen with her team of Savor Spa Estheticians. Her Dollars & Scents initiative hires moms who need flexible work hours for their children. They make and ship the beauty creams fresh from the Hudson Valley in New York.

Angela Jia Kim is a former concert pianist, wife to a Swiss man who loves to brew craft beer in his spare time, and mom to a second grader CEO and a yellow lab named Ella Fitzgerald. They live in New York City's Upper West Side.

What you’ll hear in this episode

    • Why the spiritual element of the Savor community was helpful for Angela
