    Podcast Summary

    • Being open-minded and trying new thingsInitial judgments aren't always accurate, so be open-minded and give new things a try based on recommendations from trusted sources.

First impressions aren't always accurate, and sometimes we need to let go of our initial judgments and try new things based on the recommendations of trusted sources. In the discussion, the speaker expressed his skepticism towards cookies with fancy designs, but after being reassured by someone else that they were good, he decided to try them and ended up enjoying them. Similarly, the speaker shared his mistrust towards comedians who dress up fancy on stage, but he acknowledged that this was just his personal bias and not a valid reason to dismiss their talent. The conversation then shifted to the topic of podcasting using the Anchor app, which the speaker praised for its convenience and accessibility, encouraging anyone to give it a try regardless of their prior experience or resources. Overall, the conversation highlights the importance of being open-minded and willing to try new things, even if our initial judgments may discourage us from doing so.

    • Technology and human connections in unexpected placesTechnology can foster unique friendships and make daily tasks easier, even in unexpected contexts. However, it's important to build real connections and be cautious with personal information.

Technology and human connections can create unique and convenient experiences, even in unexpected contexts like a warzone or a video game. The speaker shares an anecdote from the movie "Forrest Gump" and his own experience in Warzone, where he relies on a friend named Alex to help him get supplies. Despite the distance and the fact that they only know each other online, their friendship and trust enable them to assist each other. The speaker also acknowledges the risks of sharing personal information and the importance of building real connections. This experience highlights the potential of technology to bring people closer together and make daily tasks easier, but also the need for caution and discretion.

    • Reflecting on Past ExperiencesEmbrace past experiences, even with challenges or mistakes, as opportunities for growth and potential content.

The speaker shares anecdotes about their past experiences, including watching Dr. Populi on a TV show, dealing with forgetfulness, and attending high school. They mention stealing Victoria's Secret magazines, smoking weed, and having a low GPA. The speaker also recalls their former co-worker, Megan, reaching out for a high school reunion. Despite past struggles, they express interest in attending and potentially creating content around it. The conversation also touches upon the speaker's high school days, revealing their love for basketball and lack of motivation towards academics. Even in seemingly embarrassing situations, people can find common ground and eventually reconcile. The speaker shared a story about spilling red wine on a lawyer, leading to his dismissal, and later being invited back to a 30-year reunion by the same person. Throughout the conversation, they also touched upon the complexity of historical narratives and the evolution of societal norms around humor. The speaker acknowledged that certain jokes might not be acceptable today as they were decades ago. Despite this, they expressed a desire to explore taboo topics through comedy, recognizing the importance of pushing boundaries while being mindful of cultural sensitivities. The conversation underscored the power of empathy, forgiveness, and the ability to learn from past experiences.

    • Size and capabilities don't matchSize doesn't define worth or abilities. Embrace new experiences and challenges, regardless of your background or size.

Size and stature do not determine a person's worth or capabilities. The speaker shared an amusing anecdote about hiring a pony for her dog, which led to a conversation about various breeds and their sizes. They also discussed the perception of size in different cultures and the idea that gods might not necessarily be physically imposing. The conversation then shifted to language learning and the speaker's attempt to learn Italian using the Babbel app. Despite the speaker's self-deprecating humor about her abilities, the conversation underscored the importance of embracing new experiences and challenges, regardless of one's size or background.

The participants, in this hypothetical case the speakers themselves, would face numerous challenges such as disrupted sleep patterns, compromised independence, and potential conflicts. Despite the potential difficulties, both parties expressed an intrigue towards the idea, comparing it to the show "Wife Swap." However, the concept of "Cuffed" also raises questions about the dynamics of relationships and the potential impact on the partners' significant others. Additionally, the origins of Valentine's Day were discussed, with the speakers sharing a myth about Italian explorer Marco Valentino and his determination to explore new lands despite initial setbacks.

Despite the speaker's revelations about their relationship and the unusual Valentine's Day traditions, they assured the listener that they were not lying and were not engaging with any suitors on social media. The conversation ended with the speaker expressing concern about the potential danger of using animal hides as weapons for partner play, reflecting on their own fears and boundaries.

    • Exploring Unconventional Experiences in Comedy and BDSMIn both comedy and BDSM, pushing boundaries and finding pleasure in unusual experiences is key. Despite challenges and setbacks, persistence and a unique perspective can lead to success.

The world of comedy, like BDSM, is about pushing boundaries and finding pleasure in unusual experiences. The interviewee discusses the use of unconventional props during a BDSM scene, explaining that the pain is pleasurable because of the dominant-submissive dynamic. In comedy, the hustle and struggle to succeed are constant, with long hours and intense competition. The interviewee shares their experience of attending Mitch Hedberg's first special, where they felt insignificant and worthless. However, the key to making it in both comedy and BDSM is to never stop and keep pushing forward, even when faced with challenges and setbacks. Talent is important, but having a unique look or persona can also be a significant factor in success.

    • Challenges faced by actors who don't fit typical casting expectationsIn the entertainment industry, representation sometimes takes precedence over raw talent, making it difficult for some individuals to succeed based on merit alone. Stay true to your character and stand out to increase your chances of success.

The entertainment industry can prioritize representation over raw talent at times, making it challenging for some individuals to succeed based on their merit alone. The speaker, an experienced actor, discusses the difficulties faced by actors who don't fit typical casting expectations, such as older actors or those from underrepresented backgrounds. He mentions that sometimes, casting decisions are made based on checking off diversity boxes rather than evaluating the funniest or most talented individuals for the role. However, he also acknowledges that experience and relationships can play a significant role in an actor's career and provide opportunities that may not come easily to others. Ultimately, the speaker emphasizes the importance of staying true to one's character and standing out, even in a competitive industry.

Today Kat spends some time reframing our thinking about what it truly means to invest in our relationships, how we can continue to have friendships even in the midst of a pandemic, whether it’s better to have a vast amount of surface level relationships or only a few relationships that take place on a deeper level and more.

ep 7: Coping with Natural Disasters & Deanna's experience with the Thomas Fire

Episode 7 is filled with tips and personal experiences from Deanna & Frances in dealing with Natural Disasters and Evacuations.

As a resident of Ventura, CA, Deanna recorded this episode with Frances in the midst of evacuations and the unpredictable nature of the Thomas Fire in Ventura County, CA. Although delirious from sleep deprivation, worry and feeling sick from breathing in smoke, the women pulled through to make this episode as they both felt it was important to bring it to all of you in "real time." In fact, they felt it was so important, they decided to release this episode 2 days ahead of schedule. This episode is full of mental health tips to encourage healthy coping, words of hope and love for their community and fellow human being.

There are also some laughs in discussing Deanna wearing her pants inside out, why she evacuated with a jar of pickles. She also talks about leaving behind her work clothes & risking them being taken by the fire. To clarify, when she says, "F*** them," she meant that towards her uncomfortable clothes and not her job. Lastly, she admits to a horrible confession having to do with a Star Wars autograph. Tune in!
