About this Episode

A music legend that is a drummer and a member of The Kingsmen since 1963. The group best known for the hit, Louie Louie.

We begin the show learning about when Dick started playing for the drums and how he was in the right place at the right time to join the group, The Kingsmen in 1963. He gives the background of how the group started touring and Louie Louie being banned!

He tells us what the music scene was like in Portland, OR in the sixties that had groups such as The Wailers, Paul Revere & Raiders, and others. Richard Barry wrote Louie Louie, recorded it and wrote the song and sold all his rights for $750! Dick gives story how he changed the music industry where record companies must pay their royalties in four year or lose it.

The number of times he has played the hit song which was named the worst record at one time. Are the FBI the reason the song stayed alive? What is the longest time the song has been played consecutively? Dick explains going from high school to buying a Ferrari due to this pandemonium. What are the lyrics!?

How it became the official state song in Washington and played at all Seattle Mariners home games during the 7th inning stretch.

Mia St. John- Beyond the Gloves: A Champion's Journey In & Out of the Ring

She emerged as a five-time World Boxing Champion and graced the pages of Playboy, all while staunchly advocating for mental health awareness. Returning to her mother’s homeland for a championship bout, she delved into Tae Kwon Do and took up fighting in grade school to combat bullying. Her struggle with alcohol began at a tender age of 11, prompting her journey to sobriety, which now entails a daily structure to maintain her wellbeing amidst various disorders.

The decision to pursue a professional boxing career came full circle when she faced a particular opponent twice, ultimately leading to her retirement. Nick Parisi- Inside the Mind of Giuseppe Parisi: Mafia Confessions King of Bootleggers; Murder

Giuseppe “Joseph” Parisi while sitting in his jail cell penned a diary that serves as the foundation for this intriguing narrative. The epic unfolds in Southern Italy, where 17-year-old Giuseppe embarked on a journey to America. As the year 1920 marked the onset of Prohibition, a wave of feuds swept the nation, and West Springfield, MA, was no exception. The catalyst? The murder of Carlo Siniscalchi, the King of Little Italy, at the hands of Giuseppe.

George Martorano- Time Served: The Story of a Nonviolent Offender's 32- Year Sentence

Recorded from Dom DeMarco's Pizzeria in Las Vegas. He is the longest serving first time non-violent offender that was given a life sentence without parole. After serving 32 years and being the most appealed prisoner, he was released.

George explains what Gunman’s Row in Philadelphia where he grew up and as a two-year old seeing Benny the Gimp get shot in front of him. He was given the nickname of Cowboy, which he hates, and how that name started.

Great stories about his days dealing marijuana and how a diamond that was sewn into his pocket saved his life. His conversation with Pablo Escobar is a good one! Why Washington squeezed him after getting arrested is a great story in itself. George is the real-life man from the movie-Con Air and recalls the hijacking on the plane. John & Grant Leary: Generations of Golf, From Junior Champion to Teaching Legacy

The best in state teacher multiple times by Golf Digest and founder of the JRL Academy with his son, Grant who is a rising player in the game.

The story behind as a ten-year old going on a trip to Florida resulted in John being introduced to the game of golf and 6 months later he wins his first golf tournament. He has worked with Eddie Merrins and his short game coach was Dennis Sheehy who worked with the great Seve Ballesteros. Chi Chi Rodriguez took John under his wing but what is one thing he took from him that he has passed onto Grant?

He played his first tour event with BTL former guest Brett Quigley and has played the famous Riveria Country Club in college, on tour, and with his son. Tommy asks John to rate them in order of importance to him. John is impressed that Tommy asked him about a couple stories on being mistaken as a valet person and an amateur as a pro! Good stuff here!

John’s career was cut short by a back injury that he tells us about, starting a bait business to pay bills and who was influential in beginning his teaching career. We talk about how the mental side of the game is not practiced enough which brings in G Unit aka Grant Leary.

Grant tells how the love of the game began and became a science experiment on his first ever tournament which is a really good story! The contract he signed as a fourth grader set the tone for the importance of academics, talking golf at home with dad, and his first two-day win being interviewed by his father. What 2023 taught him, his outlook for 2024 and the explanation of two breakfast days in golf.

John uses his experience of being humbled in the game to prepare his son for them. The development of the California Jr. Golf Tour and final questions for them both.
