    • From Adversity to Success: Ella's Inspiring StoryOvercoming personal adversity through resilience and authenticity can lead to remarkable success. Stay true to oneself, embrace challenges, and keep pushing forward.

Personal adversity and resilience can lead to remarkable success. Ella, also known as Delicious Leela, shared her inspiring story of overcoming a debilitating illness during university and subsequent mental health battles, which led her to create a blog in 2012. This unexpected turn of events launched her career, leading to record-breaking books, products in supermarkets, and several delis across London. Her determination and introverted nature helped her build a successful brand that transcended herself. Ella emphasized that her journey was not just about luck and timing but also about seizing opportunities and staying true to oneself. Despite her accomplishments, she acknowledged the presence of imposter syndrome, a feeling of doubt and inadequacy despite evidence of success. Her advice: embrace challenges, stay authentic, and keep pushing forward.

    • Feeling like an imposter despite initial successSuccess can bring feelings of imposter syndrome, but recognizing the role of timing and determination in achieving it can help overcome these feelings.

Success often comes with feelings of imposter syndrome, especially when individuals are suddenly catapulted into new roles or industries where they feel out of their depth. For example, a woman discussed her experience of writing a best-selling book and growing a business, which led to widespread media attention and the need to hire experienced professionals. Despite her initial success and the validation from sales and media coverage, she felt like an imposter and questioned her worthiness to be in the room with these experts. This feeling intensified when she hired a highly experienced executive to help scale her business. However, she learned to separate imposter syndrome from the role of timing and luck in her success. She started her venture because she couldn't find the resources she needed, and the timing was right for her message to resonate with a larger audience. Her success came from her focused engagement on social media and her determination to provide a solution to a growing demand. Despite these achievements, she still experiences imposter syndrome at times but recognizes that it's a common feeling among successful individuals.

    • Recognizing and Embracing Your Unique Role in a TeamFocus on your strengths as a founder, build a strong team, and maintain a personal connection with your audience to grow and succeed.

Recognizing and embracing your unique role within a team, particularly as a founder, is crucial for growth and success. Imposter syndrome can be a common feeling when expanding a business and bringing in new talent, but it's essential to remember that no one is brilliant at everything. Instead, focus on your strengths, such as vision and idea generation, and delegate tasks to team members who excel in other areas. Building a strong team is vital, as they can make you look better and help your business thrive. As the business grows, maintaining a personal connection with your audience and brand can help prevent the specialness that got you started from being diluted. Stay engaged and involved, while trusting your team to manage day-to-day operations.

    • Building a personal brand through authenticity and engagementAuthenticity and engagement are crucial for growing a personal brand. Share genuinely, provide valuable content, and deeply engage with your audience to build a devoted following.

Building a personal brand requires authenticity and deep engagement with your audience. Ella, a second-year student, shares her experience of growing a successful brand without a marketing team, relying solely on direct communication with her audience. She emphasizes the importance of being personal and deciding how much to share, while maintaining a boundary. Engaging with people in a genuine way and providing useful content are key to building a following. Ella's brand, which started with hideous pictures and simple recipes, gained traction over time as she continued to deeply engage with her audience and provide valuable content. It took a significant amount of time before there were any noticeable results, but her persistence paid off with a devoted following and impressive engagement numbers.

    • Starting with authenticity leads to successStay true to your vision and create for the love of it to resonate with your audience and achieve success

Starting a blog or creative project with authenticity and a passion for oneself can lead to great success. The speaker in this conversation started her blog as a personal hobby in her parents' kitchen, and as she grew, she refused offers that didn't align with her authentic vision. Her authenticity and focus on providing value to her audience has sustained her blog's success, even when she wasn't getting paid. The bizarre yet exciting experience of her creations reaching people across the world is a reminder of the potential impact one can have, no matter how small the beginning. Stay true to your vision and create for the love of it, and the authenticity will resonate with your audience.

    • The power of authenticity in businessAuthenticity resonates with audiences and builds strong connections. Personal experiences, even difficult ones, can lead to growth and success.

The authenticity and backstory behind a product or brand can greatly impact its success. This was evident in the speaker's experience with their popular deli item, which started as a passion project and grew into a widely sold product. The speaker's genuine care for their product and commitment to honesty resonated with their audience and helped build a strong connection. Additionally, the speaker's personal experience with mental health struggles during university showed the importance of perseverance and resilience, even during difficult times. Despite the challenges, the speaker found strength and empowerment, and the experience ultimately led to personal growth and success.

    • The negative effects of social isolation and disconnectionSocial isolation and disconnection can harm mental and physical health. Social media can worsen feelings of loneliness and isolation, leading to a vicious cycle. Seek supportive relationships and professional help to foster connections and improve well-being.

Social isolation and disconnection from others can have profound negative effects on mental and physical health. The speaker's experience with feeling like an outsider and being unable to connect with others due to health issues was a major source of anxiety and insecurity. Social media, specifically platforms like Facebook and Instagram, can exacerbate these feelings by creating the perception that everyone else is living exciting, glamorous lives while the individual feels left out. This can lead to a vicious cycle of isolation and further mental and physical health challenges. It took the speaker several years to regain her confidence and sense of normalcy, with the help of medical professionals and supportive relationships. This experience underscores the importance of fostering connections with others and being mindful of the impact of social media on our self-perception and mental health.

    • Social media can distort reality, causing negative self-comparisonRecognize social media's curated nature, find small projects for accomplishment, and remember the power of positive changes

Social media can often make us feel inadequate and lost, but it's important to remember that what we see online is curated and not fully real. The comparison we make to others' perfect images can negatively impact our self-esteem and sense of purpose. However, finding small activities or projects, like starting a blog, can help us regain a sense of accomplishment and identity. It's crucial to recognize that there are choices in life and taking small steps to improve our situation can make a significant difference in our overall well-being. So, if we could go back in time, we might encourage ourselves to try new things, communicate with others, and not give up on making positive changes, no matter how small they may seem.

    • Social media's impact on mental healthSocial media can inspire but also cause comparison and feelings of inadequacy. Use it consciously and remember everyone's life has strengths and weaknesses. Balance work and personal life for good mental health.

Social media can be a double-edged sword when it comes to mental health. While it offers inspiration, ideas, and easy connections, it can also lead to increased comparison and feelings of inadequacy when we're exposed to curated highlight reels of other people's lives. To make the most of social media, it's important to use it consciously and be aware of its impact on our emotions. Additionally, it's essential to remember that everyone has strengths and weaknesses, and no one's life is perfect. When it comes to the future, there are two sides to consider. On one hand, starting and growing a business can be all-consuming, and it's important to make choices about what areas of life to prioritize. On the other hand, there's the fear of missing out on experiences and opportunities due to work commitments. Striking a balance between work and personal life is crucial for maintaining good mental health and overall well-being.

    • The power of complementary strengths in partnershipsFinding a partner with complementary skills and goals can lead to great success in personal and professional endeavors. Effective communication and decision-making are key to maintaining a strong partnership.

Having a strong partnership, where each person's strengths complement each other, can lead to great success in both personal and professional endeavors. The speaker, who is working with her husband on a business venture, emphasizes the importance of having similar goals but different skill sets. She shares that they have different approaches to work and people management, which allows them to effectively divide responsibilities and avoid conflicts. The speaker admits that they still have disagreements, but they prioritize making important decisions together and maintaining open communication. Overall, the speaker's experience highlights the benefits of a strong partnership and the importance of finding a balance between personal and professional life.

    • Considering comfort and discomfort in team decision-makingInclude diverse guests with unique perspectives for engaging and inclusive team dynamics, fostering thoughtful decision-making.

Even in decision-making processes, it's important to consider the comfort and potential discomfort of others, especially when working in a team with personal relationships. During a hypothetical dinner party scenario, the importance of diversity and dynamic guest selection was discussed, with a preference for inviting individuals who would bring unique perspectives and experiences to the table, such as Scary Spice, Donald Trump, and Queen Victoria. The meal choice was decided to be Indian food, reflecting the guests' various interests and preferences. Overall, the conversation highlighted the value of inclusivity, thoughtfulness, and the potential for interesting dynamics in diverse groups.

How Patience is the #1 Key to Making Your Wild Ambitions Come True

Today's episode is all about having big dreams and how to get there. The number one reason why people fail in pursuit of their dreams is lack of patience. If you have MASSIVE goals set for yourself, you need to keep it in the back of your mind and work. So many of you get a little success and then rush the process because you believe luck is on your side and nothing can go wrong, while the best thing for you to do is stay the course and play the long game. Let it all come to you naturally through hard work.

Enjoy! Let me know what you thought.

These 4 Words Will Silence Your Self-Doubt: A Life-Changing Conversation

These 4 Words Will Silence Your Self-Doubt: A Life-Changing Conversation

In this episode, you and I are dismantling one of the most crippling forms of self-doubt.

"Imposter Syndrome" is when you think you’re not good enough and that everyone else is smarter, more successful, and has more to contribute than you do. Everyone feels it. It’s so common that the Harvard Business Review found that even 70% of the world’s top executives have struggled with it.

My mission today is to convince you that Imposter Syndrome is actually a GOOD thing. And I’ll use an example from my own life to prove my case.

Come backstage with me to a huge music festival, where my daughter Kendall, an aspiring singer-songwriter, comes face-to-face with the famous musicians who inspired her career.

    Cue the panic.

Self-doubt almost made her bail on what turned out to be a life-changing weekend in her career.

She turned it around (you’ll hear how) and, as a result, was invited impromptu to perform twice with Grammy-winning musicians!

Listen and learn how to be more courageous and confident in those moments that really matter. I can’t wait for you to hear:

    • The 4 words Kendall repeated that crushed self-doubt and got her on stage.
    • The powerful mantra to say when you’re nervous walking into a room.
    • How to use humor (and tuna sandwiches) to connect with anyone.
    • Why being a "nobody" is the most amazing "somebody" you could be.

It’s time to hit delete on your self-doubt forever.

This one is so good and so relatable that you’ll be yelling, Encore!

    Xo, Mel

    In this episode, you’ll learn:

    • 2:15: Harvard Business Review says imposter syndrome is #1 fear of executives.
    • 3:40: Kendall puts us at the scene of her own paralyzing episode of self-doubt.
    • 5:30: Imagine being surrounded by everyone you’ve admired your entire life.
    • 11:30: This is the message you need to hear if you’re deep in self-doubt.
    • 12:45: My own story of feeling like an imposter before I became a speaker.
    • 19:30: Here’s how to start shifting your mindset and boost your confidence.
    • 20:20: The piece of advice that will help you stand taller.
    • 21:40: The three-letter word you need to repeat when your insecurity creeps in
    • 22:30: Once you change your mindset, your actions fall into place.
    • 24:00: You have a gift to offer even the most experienced people in your field.
    • 25:00: The seven words Kendall dropped that I’m still thinking about.
    • 27:15: The #1 takeaway from this conversation about self-doubt.
    • 28:45: Own where you are, and here’s what we mean by that.
    • 31:00: What you’re thinking will happen probably won’t.
    • 33:00: Learn how to balance giving and receiving, and you'll crack the code.
    • 35:15: Are you waiting for validation? Listen to this.
    • 38:00: There’s a reason you’re here. Here’s how to start believing that
    • 41:00: Here’s why imposter syndrome is a GOOD thing.
