Supporting Children With Anxiety with Ira Hays

Supporting Children With Anxiety with Ira Hays

Anxiety can manifest differently in children compared to adults due to various factors such as cognitive development, communication abilities, and coping mechanisms. Understanding these distinctions is crucial for identifying and addressing anxiety in children effectively.

Children might not have the vocabulary or cognitive ability to articulate their feelings accurately. They might express their anxiety through physical symptoms, avoidance behaviors, or changes in mood or behavior, such as irritability, clinginess, or excessive crying. Adults, on the other hand, can often verbalize their feelings more explicitly.

Children may also not be able to identify the specific causes of their anxiety, whereas adults might have a better understanding of the triggers.

Children might lack the coping skills that adults have developed over time. They might resort to behaviors like thumb-sucking, bed-wetting, or temper tantrums.

Mr. Ira Hays is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a distinguished career in mental health and education, specializing in anxiety disorders, including school phobia and OCD. With a focus on anxiety disorder treatment, including CBT, DBT, KPMT, and ERP, Mr. Hays uses an empathetic approach and evidence-based interventions to empower his clients to conquer challenges and lead fulfilling lives. His commitment to improving mental health is evident in his diverse roles and dedication to transforming lives. To learn more about Ira, visit transforminganxiety.com/58

How To Be Over 40 & Fabulous with Katia Stern

How To Be Over 40 & Fabulous with Katia Stern

Your 40’s can be the most transformative or the most challenging decade of your life.  With perimenopause looming, and gravity having its way with you, the 40’s can be ridden with anxiety and stress.  OR this decade can be an opportunity to finally achieve the goals you’ve always strived for but no longer fear taking a risk.

Katia Stern challenged herself to make her 40’s the best decade yet.  At the age of 42, she entered a fitness bikini competition and at 46, she entered the Mrs. Canada competition.

She was met with a lot of anxiety and doubt in herself but she pushed forward anyway.  Despite being scared and anxious, she pushed forward and challenged herself in a way she couldn’t even believe.

Small decisions lead to big actions.

Despite wondering “Who are you at 40 to be in a fitness competition?” Or  “ Who are you at almost 50 to be in a beauty pageant?”, Katia was determined to move forward.

Katia’s mentors, Bob Proctor, Jack Canfield , and Lisa Nichols from the movie “The Secret” have taught her the realistic way to visualize and manifest the life of her dreams.

In this interview Katia teaches us how to become a WOW woman.  A woman that feels good in her body, that loves and takes care of her self, and a woman that feels confident in whatever age or shape she’s in.

Katia’s solution to overcoming her anxiety is to take action.  Take action despite being terrified.  Take action even if you’re shaking with fear.  Take action even if you are not perfect.

Katia shares her experience with public speaking for the first time and says “Nobody knows how anxious I was.  Nobody knew how scared I felt but I went and did a great job and now…no more anxiety”.

Katia also addresses how anxiety limited the choices in her life in the past and how now she uses regrets to push her past her anxieties and fears.

Katia invested in her personal growth by hiring coaches to help her achieve her goals and overcome her anxiety.  Katia realized that not investing in herself was more costly than spending money on quality coaches that could guide her in the direction of her dreams.

A Dream Deferred With Darryll Stinson

A Dream Deferred With Darryll Stinson

Best selling author of “Who Am I After Sports”, and TEDX speaker, Darryll Stinson’s NFL dreams came to a halt while in college.

Opioid addiction almost derailed his life dreams but he managed to pivot in his career path and now he’s a successful international speaker, best-selling author, credential minister, award-winning philanthropist, and 2xTEDx speaker .

Darryll, as a division 1 athlete, was on track to join the NFL but a back injury side tracked his dreams.  This led to a downward spiral and depression along with addiction to pain killers after his back injury.

Being hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital after becoming suicidal led to deeper insight and awareness around his mental health.  He journaled for the first time and learned about mindfulness, all of which helped him transform his life.

Do you have a system of success AND a system of self care?
Incorporating a self care system along with his faith and mental health care helped him create success in his life.

Darryll Addressed the following during the interview:

    ·       Can athletes with a strong athletic identity have plan B when they’re so driven to achieving their goals?

    ·       Is failure or defeat ever an option for elite athletes?  Is this why Tom Brady is unable to retire?

    ·       Is there life after a failed athletic career?

    ·       How to overcome repressed trauma.

    ·       The effective way to journal and raise awareness regarding deeper emotions.

    ·       The importance of finding the right therapist

    ·       How to use affirmations and declarations to improve your mindset

    ·       How improving your mental health can lead to inner and outer strength

    ·       The importance of consistency in improving mental and physical health

    ·       Why “Real men Don’t Cry” and how they can learn to stop suppressing emotions for healthier relationships and community

    ·       Anger as the only acceptable emotion and how to go beyond the mask of anger to address the sadness and hurt

    ·       How to use food to improve mood

    ·       Don’t wait until you’re in crisis to prioritize your mental health and invest in your self care.

    ·       Make sure you love people for who they are as individuals, and not just for their gifts or talents.

    ·       We underestimate the positive difference consistent effort makes in our lives.

Darryll also addresses the Dream Big and Dream Beyond philosophy/method, which  helps athletes plan for a transition outside of their athletic dream.
