    About this Episode

We made it, Birth Warriors! We survived, and in some cases, even thrived in 2020. Here we are stepping into 2021—perhaps with uncertainty or hesitation—but doing it just the same! In our very first episode for the New Year, I reflect on the moments in 2020 that brought me the greatest levels of joy, growth, and appreciation. And I end this episode with sharing the thought I am using as my guiding principle for the New Year. If it resonates with you, I encourage you to explore using it as well.

Here we go, Birth Warriors. We’re doing it! Sending you so much love for the year ahead!

If you’re looking to get to the next phase of your Birth Warrior Journey, here are ways that I can support you:

    1. Join the private Birth Warrior Facebook Community with others on their healing journey. Whether you’re seeking ways to bolster your healing, on a pause, or are actively trying to conceive, the community allows you to be with other Birth Warriors on their journey, and get the support you need for your next step. I lead a weekly live (Birth Warrior Wednesday!) every Wednesday at 12PM and share resources so you can be the  fearless warrior you’re meant to be on this journey. Sign up here: facebook.com/groups/birthwarriorcommunity

    2. Work 1:1 with me for your emotional healing or to gently guide you through a conception to childbirth plan for your next pregnancy. Pregnancy after loss or infertility is tough, and you do not deserve to feel overwhelmed or alone. You’ve been through enough, warrior! And you are so much stronger with the right support! Book a complimentary strategy call with me to help you get clarity on what your focus would be for the next phase of your journey: https://calendly.com/nataleefacey/20min

Ep 49: The Imperfect Healing Journey

Ep 49: The Imperfect Healing Journey

I used to think that my healing journey needed to look a certain way and have a definite outcome. That eventually--no matter how long it took--I needed to rise out of the ashes like a phoenix then tell the world about it.

Sitting with the realness of my unpredictable, and sometimes messy healing journey has taught me that there is no model for what healing should look like. You are an original. Your journey will be a unique one. And by releasing the expectations around who you ought to become and by when that needs to happen, perhaps that creates room for some unexpected, imperfect beauty to unfold.

In this episode, I share about:

    • The ways in which our society creates “models” for who or what we should be

    • How those models impact our healing journey

    • The liberation that becomes possible through being present with your own journey

    • Accessing the unique wisdom that wants to emerge through you

    Ep 48: Suffering In Silence

    Ep 48: Suffering In Silence

Feeling as though you're suffering in silence is perhaps one of the most common experiences after going through a loss. Silence and solitude might be exactly what you need in the earlier stages of your healing journey. And at some point, the silence or isolation may no longer support your healing.

    In this episode, I share:

    • When silence and solitude are in service of our healing and
    • When silence and solitude can lead to our decline
    • Some simple tips for bringing "movement" and release to your body and being\

Ep 47: The Dangers of the Spiritual Bypass

Ep 47: The Dangers of the Spiritual Bypass

The "Spiritual Bypass" is often intended to be a reminder that we're spiritual beings having a human experience. It can also be used to dismiss or diminish our very real human experiences, which leads to us holding on to hurt instead of processing and releasing it.

    In this episode, I share:

    • How the Spiritual Bypass showed up in my experience
    • How it can be harmful if it's showing up in yours
    • Why healing also needs to occur through the body
    • And exploring a sense of purpose after a loss

Ep 43: Healing Relationships with Compassionate Communication

Ep 43: Healing Relationships with Compassionate Communication

I consider myself a life-long learner, so it means a lot when I say that Compassionate Communication or Nonviolent Communication (NVC) has been one of the single most important practices I’ve learned. As my teacher, Steve Torma, puts it, Compassionate Communication isn’t just a tool for communication but a shift in consciousness.

I’ve referred Compassionate Communication to clients of mine because it becomes a game-changer for ANY conversation or relationship. And today, we have the pleasure of hearing Steve Torma share more about Compassionate Communication and how it can benefit you and your relationships.

    We discuss:

    • What Compassionate Communication or NVC is and some of its many benefits
    • What violence looks like in conversations (it’s not just physical!)
    • How the “Dominator Culture” we’re socialized in shows up in our self-talk and relationships
    • Why men will likely grieve differently from women
    • The patterns/imbalances that may become prevalent in relationships between men and women
    • How Compassionate Communication can help create inner peace, as well as bring empathy and healing to relationships

    Steve Torma’s Bio:

Steve (he/him) was born and raised on a family farm in Ashtabula, Ohio, and is a 25-year member of Earthaven Ecovillage. His ancestors are Hungarian and French Canadian.

Steve co-founded an intentional community in Ohio in 1980, where he lived until joining Earthaven Ecovillage in 1996. At Earthaven, he co-founded a thriving neighborhood, was president for three years, and has taught Nonviolent Communication for twelve years. In addition to his passion for community, Steve co-managed a natural foods co-op for 10 years, ran his own traveling bookstore business for over 20 years, and now teaches Nonviolent Communication and other relationship and community building skills through The REAL Center, which he co-founded in 2009.

As a lifelong peace, justice, and ecology educator and activist with over 40 years of community living, Steve has sought to integrate personal and social transformation in his own life, in the communities where he lives, and in the larger society. His passion for integral living and thinking has led him to study and experiment with a wide range of spiritualities, psychological systems, and social theories as they relate to creating a more just and sustainable world.

Steve has taught Nonviolent Communication for a variety of intentional communities, organizations, and regional gatherings, including Celo Community, The Mountain Retreat Center, Firefly Gathering, Southeast Permaculture Gathering, Organic Growers School, Kinnection Campout, LovEvolution Gathering, Compassion Camp, and many others.

Ep 41: Birth Story - Birthing in Community with Tia DeShazor

Ep 41: Birth Story - Birthing in Community with Tia DeShazor

I had the pleasure of working with Tia during her pregnancy as her “space-holder,” resource-connector, co-strategist, and emotional healing guide. I’ve been excited to share our follow-up conversation because Tia’s story is such a powerful example of what’s possible when pregnancy and birth are supported by community—family, friends, and professionals who are equally competent as they are caring.

It’s a model that doesn’t simply center the pregnant / birthing person, but also makes them the director of their experience, and at the same time, allows them to feel safe enough, held enough so that they can surrender to the process.

The magic that unfolded in Tia’s birth is typically reserved for fantasies. But it was real and it came after a fair amount of self-advocacy and intentionality.

I also want to acknowledge that when you’ve gone through a loss or fertility challenges, it may feel safer to go with the hospital care we’ve learned to accept as the norm. But if you’ve been finding that unsatisfactory, I hope Tia’s story will spark ideas for the alternatives you have access to regardless of who you choose to be on your birthing team and where you choose to birth.

    ------

    Tia and I discuss:

    - Challenges she experienced receiving care within the hospital model

    - The ways she advocated for herself amidst push-back

    - Choosing a midwife and homebirth

    - Feeling supported by “prayers, friends, and angels” as she welcomed her baby earth-side

Originally from Detroit, she currently lives in Harlem with her husband CK Edwards and baby Lexington. Learn more about her at tiadeshazor.com.
