Ep. 67 Plan With Me: A Step-by-Step Framework For How to Actually Achieve Your Goals in 2024

    enDecember 18, 2023
What are SMART goals in the planning process?
What makes LinkedIn valuable for small business hiring?
How should small business owners plan for 2024?
Why is habit tracking important in goal setting?
How can daily habits impact long-term goals?

    • Leverage LinkedIn for hiring and planningSmall business owners can find top talent on LinkedIn and plan for the year ahead with clear, achievable goals using a digital planner.

LinkedIn is a valuable resource for small business owners looking to hire professionals. It's like searching for car keys in a fish tank to ignore LinkedIn in your hiring process. The platform hosts a large number of professionals, many of whom aren't actively seeking new jobs but might be open to the right opportunity. Moreover, a significant percentage of LinkedIn users don't visit other leading job sites, making it an excellent place to find top talent. Meanwhile, planning for the year ahead can feel overwhelming, but having a clear and achievable goal in mind makes it more manageable and exciting. Planning for 2024 involves reflecting on the past year, setting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals, and creating a step-by-step plan to achieve them. Using a digital planner can be an effective tool for this process. So, if you're a small business owner looking to hire or planning for the year ahead, remember to leverage LinkedIn for hiring and use a well-thought-out planning process to set achievable goals for the year.

    • Evaluate and realign: Reflect on your motivations and prioritiesRegularly reflect on your top motivations and what you wish to prioritize for a fulfilling life. Create a vision board for long-term goals and set achievable steps towards them.

Reflection is crucial for personal growth and setting new goals, as our priorities and understanding of a good life can change significantly from year to year. To effectively evaluate and realign, ask yourself two key questions: what are your top five motivations, and what do you wish you had more time for? Additionally, creating a vision board can help you visualize and stay inspired by your long-term goals. While some practices like journaling or affirmations may not resonate with everyone, the importance of setting achievable goals that bring you closer to your desired life and providing yourself with motivation cannot be overstated.

    • Bring your aspirations to life with a vision board and clear goalsCreate a vision board with images representing your goals, update it regularly, and set clear goals in diverse categories for overall well-being and focus

Creating a vision board and setting specific goals are powerful tools for manifesting the life you desire. A vision board is a visual representation of your aspirations, including your ideal self, life, and actions. Start by brainstorming specific goals and habits, then gather images that resonate with them from online sources. Regularly update your vision board throughout the year. Effective goal setting involves identifying diverse categories such as personal development, relationships, finances, career and business, attitude and mindset, and health. This approach promotes balance and overall well-being. Use a planner or digital tool to set and track progress towards your goals. Remember, a vision board and clear goals serve as constant reminders and motivators to help you stay focused on your desired future.

    • Balancing various aspects of life for motivation, happiness, and successSet achievable and trackable goals for each life segment, ensure progress, and define success. Remember, if one area suffers, others may help keep us afloat. Find cost-effective solutions to save money and invest in other areas.

Achieving balance in various aspects of life is crucial for motivation, happiness, and success. This balance can be represented as different segments or categories within our goals. It's essential to set achievable and trackable goals for each segment to ensure progress and define success in every area. Remember, if one area suffers, the others may help keep us afloat. The importance of setting achievable and trackable goals was further emphasized, as without clear parameters, it can be challenging to determine if we've reached our targets. Lastly, the speaker mentioned the importance of finding cost-effective solutions in various markets, such as telecom and luxury resale, to save money and invest in other areas of life.

    • Focusing on daily habits for goal achievementPrioritize daily habits that align with goals, track progress, and remember the importance of small actions in reaching big goals.

Setting and achieving goals, whether related to finances or relationships, is not just about the big moments or milestones, but rather the accumulation of daily habits. Habit tracking is a crucial yet often overlooked step in goal setting. It allows us to bring our yearly goals into our daily lives and make progress towards them every day. Birthdays serve as a reminder of the importance of expressing care and appreciation to those we love through small actions like sending cards. By focusing on the small habits that make a big difference, we can effectively reach our goals and create lasting change in our lives. So, make sure to prioritize daily habits that align with your goals, track your progress, and remember that the little things matter.

    • Break down annual goals into manageable monthly goalsRegularly review and adjust monthly goals for progress and flexibility, ensuring consistent effort towards achieving annual objectives

Setting annual goals is not enough; it's crucial to break them down into manageable, achievable, and measurable monthly goals. This approach ensures that your goals remain a priority, flexible, and actionable throughout the year. By regularly reviewing and adjusting your goals, you can effectively track your progress and make necessary changes in response to life's unpredictability. This process may seem time-consuming initially, but the time spent at the beginning of each day or week is significantly less than the potential time wasted if you neglect your goals for an entire year. Remember, the key to achieving your goals is not just setting them but also consistently working towards them. So, make goal setting a habit, and watch as your vision board comes to life.

    • Make your goals visible and accessible through monthly planningEffective goal setting involves making your goals visible and accessible through monthly planning, turning them into actionable steps, and using them as inspiration and motivation.

Effective goal setting and planning is an essential tool for entering the new year feeling in control and aligned with your priorities. It's not about spending hours on it or setting unrealistic goals, but rather making your goals visible and accessible through monthly planning. By putting your goals in your calendar and keeping them in sight, you can avoid the disappointment of not reaching them and instead use them as inspiration and motivation. Planning is not a procrastination tool, but a valuable resource for turning your goals into actionable steps. As the speaker emphasized, "it's not a goal if it doesn't have a plan." So, take the time to set your goals, make them visible, and use them to guide your actions throughout the year. And, if you're new to digital planning, consider giving it a try with a discounted planner to help you get started. Remember, the key is to use planning as a tool to help you stay focused and motivated, rather than a source of stress or disappointment.

    • Plan, prepare, and adapt for successFocus on creating a clear roadmap for reaching goals, understanding that adjustments may be needed along the way to increase chances of success.

Having a successful year in 2024 requires more than just setting goals. While planning and goal-setting are important, it's essential to understand that not all goals will be achieved exactly as planned. Instead, we should focus on creating a clear roadmap for reaching our goals, with the understanding that adjustments may need to be made along the way. By remaining flexible and adaptable, we can increase our chances of success and ultimately take over the world. So, let's plan, prepare, and be ready for the unexpected challenges that come our way.

Ep.102 The Hundred Million Dollar Startup: Ankur Nagpal On The Key To Growing & Selling Your Business

We’ve had a lot of entrepreneurs on this podcast, many are in the midst of growing their company. But Ankur Nagpal has been there done that, got the millions.

He’s reached the goal so many entrepreneurs work towards, selling his edu- tech company Teachable for a 9-figure sum in 2020. Ankur has ticked off so many accolades, Forbes 30u30, tens of millions of dollars in funding, and of course a large exit. But behind the accolades are more challenges than you might expect, from getting a cease and desist from Facebook, to almost being kicked out of the country. I’m so thankful to Ankur for being so open about his journey.

Frankie Bridge has been working since the age of 12, and before her 30th birthday she’d sold 10 million records, and had 19 UK top ten singles, both as part of S Club Juniors, and then The Saturdays. Frankie has achieved things so many would dream of, but today she told me after each career move, she felt like a failure, and that she didn’t have control over her future & career. This is an episode about reinvention, not being scared to find your feet over & over again, and having the courage to create the future you want for yourself.

Ep.100! The 10 Pieces of Advice You NEED To Improve Your Life

Ep.100! The 10 Pieces of Advice You NEED To Improve Your Life

    Episode 100!! We've made it!!

I truly cannot believe that we’ve made it to 100 episodes, but at the same time it still feels like the beginning. I’ve said it in pretty much every episode so far, but my aim for this was always to have interesting, advice-filled conversations, with fascinating people. When I started 100 episodes ago, I was frustrated that “life improvement” podcasts were either just positioned as health, or productivity, and how in fact it really stretches so much further than that. Whether you’ve listened to one episode, or one hundred, I can’t thank you enough for being part of the journey - this podcast has always been guided by what you want to learn & improve on, so never stop sending ideas and making this podcast alongside me! I’m so grateful and we have huge huge plans for the future so here’s to the next 100!

Ep. 98 I Started A New Company!! Meet The Founders Of Retrograde

This week I’m joined by Jake Browne and Gary Meehan - the co-founders of a brand-new company called Retrograde that's on a mission to democratise the creator industry using AI, helping creators earn more from their work. And here’s the wildest bit, I’m the other co-founder! This podcast has always been about sharing my business learnings, and it seems crazy not to talk about my biggest learning curve of the last few months, founding Retrograde.

I wanted this episode to be a raw and real conversation about our journey to date, the reality of what it's been like, how we’ve taken our idea & made it into something real, why the creator industry is crying out for change and what we think this company can be. I really hope you enjoy it.

024: Living a Life of Purpose

024: Living a Life of Purpose

Today's podcast is our very first one of 2014. The energy of last year (and let's face it, some previous years too) felt really heavy, stuck and not particularly flowing for many of us. Looking back on last year and trying to take stock of my successes, highlights and magic moments I'm almost ashamed to say that my list was pretty lacking. But this year I'm optimistic that new adventures, opportunities and adventures await us all and my life will be filled with mystery and passion.

So what do we mean by living a life of passion?

Well one perspective is beautifully expressed by Eleanor Roosevelt – former First Lady.

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste and experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”

    That’s it!!!!

That being said, we're inspired by this new beginning and encourage each and every one of you to turn the page on the past, to let go of suffering and regret and let us all turn our attention to new beginnings and adventures. And that is not something we only think about at the start of a New Year, since EACH DAY is an opportunity to start afresh, to be as present as we can and to CHOOSE the way we interpret events, also choosing the ensuing decisions we make based on our conclusions.

So what IS the purpose of life? What does living a life of passion look like? We believe that the purpose of life is to be joyful, to experience anything and everything that makes your heart sing and to follow the breadcrumbs, however small, that lead you to your eventual destination of daily happiness and joy. I’ve come across so many people today who feel discouraged because they say they don’t know what their purpose is. We seem to have become obsessed with finding and living it and in my humble opinion I believe that stems from a genuine desire to expand and be more, to live our potential, to contribute and make a difference, to leave a legacy of some sort ~ even if that is simply to have touched people in small and often unnoticed ways and to live a life of meaning.

In "Man's Search for Meaning" Viktor Frankl wrote, "The purpose of life is to live a life of joy ~ a life of making a difference and giving," and we certainly agree that contribution is a very high value that many of us on the planet today share and need in order to feel truly fulfilled.

But that meaning will be as different for each of us as there are people on the planet. What lights me up may make you cringe and vice versa. NO ONE is here to tell you how you SHOULD live, so we are not here in our call either to add more pressure to your world! What we DO encourage you to consider is that this journey called Life will be over before we realise it, so why spend another second living a life that isn’t personally meaningful to you?

So LISTEN NOW and discover our personal perspective on how you can bring more passion and purpose into your daily life.
