    In this episode of Run with Fitpage, we invited the top researcher in the field of lactate metabolism, exercise metabolism, control of blood flow during exercise, and exercise fatigue — the director of Muscle Physiology Lab, Dr. Bruce Gladden. Dr. Gladden is a Distinguished Professor in the School of Kinesiology at Auburn University. He is the author or co-author of 100+ refereed research articles, book chapters, and reviews. He is known nationally and internationally for his research on the role of lactate in metabolism and activation of mitochondrial metabolism in skeletal muscle (oxygen uptake kinetics).

    Dr. Gladden received the American College of Sports Medicine’s (ACSM) Citation Award in 2015, the American Physiological Society’s (APS) Environmental and Exercise Physiology (EEP) Section’s Honor Award for 2020, and he served two terms (2014-2022) as Editor-in-Chief of Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise and continues now as a Consulting Editor. He is also an Associate Editor for ACSM’s new open-access journal, Exercise, Sport & Movement. He is currently Immediate Past-President of ACSM, has served as Southeast ACSM President, and has been recognized as the Southeast ACSM Montoye Scholar, and SEACSM Service Awardee. He has also served as Chair of the EEP section of APS. He was presented the Auburn University Creative Research and Scholarship Award in 2020.

    In this episode of Run with Fitpage, we have Emeritus Professor Dr. Mike Lambert to discuss all about quantification of training load, especially for runners, with our host and Founder Vikas Singh. 

    Emeritus Professor Mike Lambert, a distinguished figure in exercise science, holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cape Town, which he completed in 1990. His illustrious academic career saw him ascend to full professorship in 2009. Prof. Lambert boasts an impressive publication record, with 262 research papers and one patented work, collectively cited over 11,000 times. As a mentor, he has supervised or co-supervised 30 Ph.D. students. Having served as the Editor-in-Chief of the South African Journal of Sports Medicine and an executive committee member of the South African Sports Medicine Association, his influence extends beyond the academic realm. In 2021, he retired from his academic position and transitioned into the role of a senior research scholar at UCT.

    Dr. Mike Lambert is a road running enthusiast with a remarkable running portfolio. He has conquered three Comrades marathons (90 km) and secured the 43rd position in 1982. His achievements also include nine Two Oceans marathons (56 km), with another notable 43rd position in 1986. Prof. Lambert boasts an impressive record of 43 standard marathons, with a personal best time of 2:33, and has successfully completed 13 ultra-marathons, showcasing his enduring passion and prowess in the world of long-distance running.

Dr. Forbes is a certified sport nutritionist through the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN), and a clinical exercise physiologist and high-performance specialist through the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP). Dr. Forbes has published over 115 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 5 book chapters. His research examines various nutritional (e.g., creatine and protein) and exercise interventions to enhance muscle, bone, and brain function in a variety of populations, including athletes and aging adults.

    Welcome to a special reprise on Run with Fitpage! In episode 157, we revisit an insightful conversation with the esteemed Hugh Jones, Race Director of the Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM). With the upcoming TMM 2024 on Sunday, January 21st, this episode is a timely exploration of the race and Hugh's remarkable journey.

    Hugh Jones, a retired British long-distance runner, boasts a rich legacy in marathon history. Born in London, he clinched victory in the 1982 London Marathon, becoming the first Welshman to do so with an impressive time of 2:09:24. His marathon prowess continued with a notable 12th position in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, clocking 2:13:57. In 1983, Jones secured a close second in the Chicago Marathon and triumphed in the Stockholm Marathon with a record-setting time of 2:11:37.
    Not merely confined to his athletic achievements, Hugh Jones assumed pivotal roles post-retirement. Since 1996, he has served as the Secretary of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). Additionally, he took the helm as the President of the Road Runners Club from 2007 to 2011.
