Ep. 877 - My Dr. Phil Appearance Caused Trauma And Nightmares

    enJanuary 20, 2022
What were the main topics discussed on Dr. Phil's episode?
How did Matt Walsh view the concept of gender and pronouns?
What did Walsh say about self-perception and pronouns?
What analogy did Walsh use to explain traditions?
How did the speaker describe the use of incorrect pronouns?

    Podcast Summary

    • Matt Walsh debates gender and pronouns on Doctor PhilMatt Walsh confidently argued for simple, sensible views on gender and pronouns, despite a hostile audience, while Biden's press conference was disastrous and companies continued to go 'woke'.

During an appearance on Doctor Phil, Matt Walsh argued about gender and pronouns with non-binary diversity consultants and a woke college professor. Walsh expressed that his opponents tried to label his views as complicated and harmful, but he maintained that his position was simple, sensible, and grounded in truth. Despite being outnumbered and facing a hostile audience, Walsh remained confident in his stance and encouraged staying focused on the main point. Meanwhile, Biden held a disastrous press conference, and there were more instances of companies going "woke." Walsh also promoted Good Ranchers, an American meat company, and offered a discount code for listeners. Despite some markets airing Biden's press conference instead, Walsh's Doctor Phil episode was a valuable opportunity to discuss important issues and stand firm on principles.

    • Respecting Biological Reality in Pronoun UsageUsing correct pronouns acknowledges biological reality, respects individuals, and promotes truthful communication.

While individuals have the freedom to identify their gender and self-perception, there is no subjectivity when it comes to pronouns. They are used to describe biological reality, not individual self-perception. The speaker argues that using incorrect pronouns for someone is an untruth, and can be a result of confusion, lying, or fear. The ultimate question, according to the speaker, is the fundamental importance of acknowledging and respecting biological reality in the use of pronouns. The speaker also emphasizes that self-perception and adjectives used to describe oneself are subjective, and individuals have the freedom to choose how they want to be described with adjectives. However, the speaker believes that using incorrect pronouns is not a matter of respecting someone's self-perception, but rather acknowledging the biological reality.

    • Some individuals cannot definitively explain what they mean by 'woman' or 'female'Despite advocating for left-wing gender ideology, some cannot provide clear definitions of 'woman' or 'female.' Their inability to explain trans women being women raises questions about their positions and potential reduction of gender.

During a panel discussion, it became clear that some individuals who advocate for left-wing gender ideology cannot definitively explain what they mean by the terms "woman" or "female." When asked to provide a clear definition, they admitted that they cannot, as they believe that womanhood looks different for everyone. However, when pressed about the concept of trans women being women, they reverted to circular logic and could not provide a concrete answer. This raises questions about the meaning and validity of their positions, as well as the potential for reducing gender to just biological sex or a costume. It's essential to have clear and consistent definitions and to be able to explain the reasoning behind our beliefs.

    • Defending Truth in a Post-Truth WorldStand up for truth in the face of challenges, just as we would argue against the idea that squares are circles, and prioritize truth in our own lives.

The speaker passionately believes in defending the truth, especially when it comes to fundamental concepts like biological sex and gender identity. He cares about the impact of these issues on children, women, and society as a whole. He also emphasizes that the primary motivation for defending truth is not about fairness, sports, privacy, or safety, but rather for the sake of truth itself. The speaker encourages everyone to stand up for truth in the face of campaigns that challenge basic realities, just as he would argue against the idea that squares are circles. The speaker also shares his advice on refinancing mortgages to save money and encourages listeners to prioritize truth in their own lives. Despite some initial fears, he reminds us that we can navigate challenges, like ice on the roads, with caution and common sense.

    • Speaker criticizes timing of Biden press conference during interviewSpeaker expresses concern over Biden's remarks equating opponents to historical racists, criticizes timing of press conference during interview, and hopes for fewer press conferences to avoid controversy

During a past interview, the speaker shared experiences of working in a dangerous environment, while also commenting on President Biden's recent press conference. The speaker expressed concern over the timing of the press conference coinciding with their own appearance, suggesting it may have been deliberate. Biden was criticized for his remarks about those opposing voting bills, with the speaker questioning his intentions and accusing him of equating opponents with historical racists. Biden defended himself, stating he did not label anyone as Bull Connor or George Wallace, but rather put them in the same camp. The speaker expressed disappointment in Biden's performance and hoped for fewer press conferences, fearing the potential for further confusion or controversy. Biden was also asked about the legitimacy of elections if a voting rights bill was not passed, but the speaker did not share his response.

    • Standards for questioning election results and mask-wearingThe debate around election legitimacy and mask-wearing is polarized, with each side having different beliefs. Those in power can question election results or not wear masks, but it's not acceptable for their opponents to do so. The effectiveness of vaccines and mask-wearing are subjects of controversy, leading to deep divisions in society.

The debate around voting rights legislation and election legitimacy is deeply polarized, with each side having different standards and beliefs. The speaker argues that there's only one standard – it's acceptable for those in power to question election results or not wear masks, but not for their opponents. Meanwhile, there's a growing controversy surrounding Justice Neil Gorsuch's decision not to wear a mask at the Supreme Court despite being instructed to do so, putting a colleague with diabetes at risk. The speaker defends Gorsuch's choice, questioning the effectiveness of vaccines and suggesting that those criticizing him are questioning the vaccine's efficacy. The debate around these issues highlights the deep divisions in society and the importance of understanding differing perspectives.

    • The Importance of Fact-Checking InformationVerify the accuracy of information before sharing it to avoid spreading misinformation or rumors, even from reputable sources.

Misinformation and rumors can spread quickly, even from reputable sources, and it's essential to fact-check information before believing it. The recent controversy surrounding Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Neil Gorsuch's alleged disagreement over mask-wearing during the pandemic serves as a reminder of this. Several media outlets reported that Gorsuch refused to wear a mask, leading to public criticism. However, both justices issued a joint statement denying these reports, emphasizing that they remain warm colleagues and friends despite their legal disagreements. Additionally, the discussion touched upon the importance of trusting reliable sources of information and being cautious when conducting online research. The Audi commercial promoting gender-sensitive language was also discussed, with questions raised about its relevance to the car brand. In summary, it's crucial to verify the accuracy of information before sharing it and to be aware of potential biases or misinformation, especially during times of uncertainty and heightened emotions.

    • The value of traditions and connecting to our ancestorsTraditions, such as using gender-inclusive language and passing down family names, hold significance and connect us to our past. Understanding the reasons behind them is crucial to respecting their value.

Traditions, including the use of gender-inclusive or sensitive language and the passing down of family names, hold significant value and connect us to our past and ancestors. During a discussion on Audi's gender-inclusive ad, the speaker acknowledged the importance of these traditions and argued that they should not be dismissed as meaningless buzzwords. A listener shared their perspective as a Syrian citizen who appreciated the connection between a father and his children through the family name. The speaker emphasized the importance of understanding the reasons behind traditions and the wisdom they represent, rather than mindlessly tearing them down. Chesterton's quote, "tradition is the democracy of the dead," highlights the importance of connecting to our ancestors and the value of asking why something is a tradition. Overall, the conversation emphasized the importance of respecting and understanding traditions and the role they play in our lives.

    • The importance of understanding traditions and practices before challenging themUnderstanding the roots and reasons behind traditions and practices is crucial before trying to change them. Different personalities and attitudes are necessary within communities to address various situations and times.

Understanding the roots and reasons behind traditions and practices, even if they seem harsh or rude, is crucial before trying to challenge or destroy them. This was emphasized through the analogy of a dog on the other side of a fence, and the wisdom of the ages versus individual ignorance. The speaker also defended the importance of various personalities and attitudes within the Christian community, including those who are aggressive or rude, as necessary for different situations and times. The speaker used examples from both the Old and New Testaments to illustrate this point, and emphasized the need to shout above the noise in today's chaotic world to be heard and make a difference.

    • Urgency and Crisis over Societal Issues: Christianity's Collapse and Transgender IdeologyThere's a need for a more direct approach to addressing societal issues like Christianity's collapse and transgender ideology, rather than prioritizing political correctness.

There's a sense of urgency and crisis regarding certain societal issues, particularly the collapsing state of Christianity and the promotion of false ideologies like transgender ideology. Some people are deeply concerned about these issues, while others prioritize political correctness and avoiding offense. For instance, some Christians are criticized for being too polite and not taking a more aggressive stance against these issues, even as they become increasingly criminalized. Additionally, some individuals, particularly adults, are believed to know the truth about biological sex but prioritize the false ideology above it. Michael Phelps, a swimmer, is an example of someone who, despite being wealthy and influential, faces backlash for not supporting transgender athletes. Overall, there's a call for a more direct and aggressive approach to addressing these issues, rather than worrying about being polite or avoiding offense.

    • Unprepared for Opposition: Trauma from DisagreementOpen and respectful dialogue, where all perspectives are given equal weight, is crucial to prevent individuals from being traumatized by disagreement.

The lack of opposition and pushback against controversial ideas and perspectives in today's culture can lead to individuals feeling traumatized when they finally encounter disagreement. Addison and Ethan, who are advocates for transgender issues, were unprepared for the confrontation they faced on the Dr. Phil show and have since experienced anxiety, nightmares, and depression. They expected a rigged conversation in their favor, but instead faced strong opposition. The culture's fear of confrontation and the propagandists' lack of exposure to opposing viewpoints have allowed them to run unopposed, creating an unhealthy bubble. The takeaway is the importance of open and respectful dialogue, where all perspectives are given equal weight and consideration, to prevent individuals from being traumatized by disagreement.

    • Belief in truth leads to peaceIntrospection and self-assurance are vital for personal growth and resilience. Practice staying true to values and not succumbing to external pressures.

Self-assurance and introspection are crucial for personal growth and resilience. The person in the discussion expressed their ability to sleep peacefully despite facing harsh criticism, attributing it to their belief in standing in the truth. In contrast, the other person seems to be plagued by negative feedback, which they perceive as a sign from their conscience. The speaker suggests that the latter should look within themselves for answers and practice introspection. Additionally, the discussion touched upon the importance of staying true to one's values and not giving in to external pressures. In the political sphere, the Ben Shapiro Show highlighted President Biden's press conference, where he celebrated achievements, questioned election integrity, and appeared to give tacit approval to Putin's potential invasion of Ukraine.

Ep. 1442 - Robin DiAngelo Freaks Out Over 'Am I Racist?' And It's Glorious

Today on the Matt Walsh Show, my new film, "Am I Racist?", premiers in theaters this weekend. But shockingly, some of my co-stars in the film -- the DEI grifters we exposed -- are not happy about the movie. They have come out to denounce it as "Nazi propaganda," among other things. We'll discuss that today. Also, Donald Trump unveils a new tax plan, as Kamala still refuses to unveil any plans at all. And the Left's hysteria about the reports of Haitians eating cats has reached a fever pitch.

We're the bad guys, somehow. Also, Trump says he might not do another debate with Kamala. I agree that he shouldn't. I'll explain. And Joe Biden dons a Trump hat. Is an endorsement next? Finally, Will Ferrell is the latest comedian to apologize for some of his old jokes.

Ep. 1439 - Our Towns And Our Pets Aren’t Safe Thanks to Third-World Migrants

Today on the Matt Walsh Show, a surge of immigration from Haiti is destroying communities in America — even those thousands of miles away from Haiti. It's gotten so bad that, according to many reports, the Haitian immigrants are killing and eating people's household pets. Will this be the thing that finally convinces the cat ladies that the border must be secured? Also, Kamala Harris is fading fast in the polls. Climate alarmists predicted historic, devastating hurricanes this season. Instead, there have been no hurricanes at all. And a film glorifying euthanasia earns the top prize at the Venice Film Festival, and an 18-minute standing ovation.

Ep. 1438 - Why Kamala's Campaign Is Spiraling Into Desperation Mode

Today on the Matt Walsh Show, the Kamala campaign is falling apart as they plunge in the polls. This has just made them even more desperate and deceitful, as we've seen this week. Also, Kamala is on the record saying that schools shouldn't have resource officers handling security. But two resource officers just saved dozens of lives. Plus, Will Ferrell has a new pro-trans documentary coming out. And the Hawk Tuah girl keeps extending her 15 minutes way beyond the breaking point. Now she has a new podcast on the way.

This time, I'm bringing y'all behind the microphone on two things: 1) an event Reckonings hosted back in December, inviting voters to take a post-election stroll in each other’s shoes (short video: bit.ly/2s7OuGD), and 2) the wondrous reason the show has been on hiatus.

With that, Reckonings is BACK, and the next episode is imminent…

A Holiday Survival Guide for Difficult Conversations | Bill Doherty
What to do if you find yourself marooned at your Thanksgiving meal, facing a voluble uncle who is spewing political ideas you find abominable? Our guest today is overstuffed (see what I did there?) with practical ideas. I first met Bill Doherty several years ago, when I was doing a story for Nightline about a group called Braver Angels. The group was formed in the aftermath of the 2016 election, with the idea of bringing reds and blues together to create some mutual understanding and trust. As I watched the man moderating these seemingly incredibly successful discussions (ie no shouting, no rote recitations of slogans), I was really impressed. I later learned that he was both a marriage counselor and a meditator. So I invited him to come on the show. In this conversation, we discuss: why trying to change people’s minds or get them to abandon their core values is unlikely to be a winning strategy; the value of sticking with so-called “I” statements; and how to reach what he calls “accurate disagreement.” Please note: this interview was recorded before most of the tumultuous events of 2020, but it remains immovably relevant.  Where to find Bill Doherty online:  Website: https://braverangels.org Website: https://dohertyrelationshipinstitute.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/billdoherty Full Show Notes: https://www.tenpercent.com/podcast-episode/bill-doherty-301 See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
