Episode 114 | AI Tools You Need in 2023 to Scale Your Business

Episode 114 | AI Tools You Need in 2023 to Scale Your Business

Innovating your business means stepping up your game. Do you think that AI tools are the game-changer you need in 2023?

Artificial intelligence, or AI, is indeed a powerful tool, and the good news is that you can implement it into your business operations! Utilizing AI tools can boost your productivity as it can handle your tasks promptly, allowing you to move to your other strategic activities. This enables you to leverage your skills while spending less on the areas of your business operations that can be handled by AI tools.

Let me share with you my top 3 AI tools you need in 2023 to scale your business:

    1. Fireflies.ai - an AI note-taking tool that transcribes your entire meeting and put the notes succinctly into meeting notes. It will not just help you focus more on your meeting but will also allow you to take those notes and transform them into other forms of educational content.
    2. Open AI’s Chat GPT - an AI-powered natural language processing tool that can provide answers to your questions and help you with tasks like email composition. Personally, it has been helping me with idea generation and when writing lengthy letters.
    3.  Shopify Inbox - a chatbot that acts as our customer service tool on our website, alsosophia.com. And it's great because if we're not available and a customer needs our service, it will respond on our behalf.

Episode 113 | Go from Wantrepreneur to Entrepreneur — Why People Stay Stuck!

Episode 113 | Go from Wantrepreneur to Entrepreneur — Why People Stay Stuck!

Would you describe yourself as a wantrepreneur? Or do you know someone who is a wantrepreneur?

The term "wantrepreneur" refers to someone who desires to create their own business but hasn't been able to get started. Wantrepreneurs have fresh and creative ideas but lack the courage to take action and risks. In this episode, we discuss the barriers that might hinder you in your transition from a wantrepreneur to an entrepreneur and the strategies that can help you avoid them.

Let me share with you why you might be stuck in the wantrepreneur stage:

    1. You find yourself fearful to either start your business or scale it to the next phase or the next big step. The best way to start conquering your fear is to write down the things that you're fearful of if you were to start your business or if you are deciding to take your business to the next level.
    2. You fear being judged by others. It’s important to understand that the reason they have something to say about you is that they're projecting their own insecurities about starting a business on you or they don’t have the ability to help you with this path in life that you've decided to take.
    3. You don’t know where to start. Do the right thing by seeking out podcasts and YouTube videos, mentors, and other resources to help you expedite your trajectory toward your goal.
    4. You lack capital or funding. Start your business with your own money first. Don't borrow money from others to experiment because you should be confident enough to use your own money to start.

Episode 112 | Don't Burn the Boats Right Away But Start the Side Hustle

Episode 112 | Don't Burn the Boats Right Away But Start the Side Hustle

Many of us mistakenly believe that starting a side hustle while juggling a nine-to-five job is impossible and that we cannot successfully manage both responsibilities at the same time. It is not necessary to burn the boats right away. Keeping your nine-to-five is vital, not just for supporting your business but also as a safety net in case your side hustle or business fails. It's better to have a side hustle than to jump all in when starting a business.

Let me share with you why you start the side hustle:

    1. Side hustles give you an extra income stream different from the one you get from your 9 to 5 job. Hence, even if you run into difficulties with your job, you won't completely lose your source of income.
    2.  A side hustle will give you extra income to supplement your income as the cost of living has increased substantially!
    3. Start a side business in an area that piques your interest. You are given the opportunity to do something that brings you joy while also continuously relying on your main source of financial support. The extra income that you earned from a side hustle is just a bonus!

Episode 111 | The Real Entrepreneurial Journey - 2 Steps Forward 1 Step Back

Episode 111 | The Real Entrepreneurial Journey - 2 Steps Forward 1 Step Back

Progress is not always linear; there are times when we need to step back before striving again. Setbacks are a natural part of the process of our success. We need to grow, learn, and improve. So my mantra has always been "Two Steps Forward One Step Back." But how do I define this in the context of business?

    1. This mantra sets realistic expectations and maintains a mindset of making room for improvement.
    2. It helps in navigating the ups and downs of business with grace and strength.
    3. It makes us realize that setbacks are okay. Remember, business is a marathon, not a sprint. Take time to pace yourself and revel in the journey.

Episode 110 | How to Launch a Successful Day [My 3 Strategies]

Episode 110 | How to Launch a Successful Day [My 3 Strategies]

Passion is not enough in achieving success. You also need a productive mindset to help you set goals. But how do we cultivate that productive mindset? Let me share with you three strategies that can help in establishing success and optimizing our productivity.

    1. Set up the night before. Planning the night before can help create a systemic routine for our day-to-day needs. When we plan ahead, we ensure that the things we need are ready and in place. Even the smallest details that are often overlooked can be properly attended by planning the night before.

    2. Identify your priority to-do list and categorize what should be done for the day and the others that can be accomplished for the succeeding days. You cannot finish everything within a day, so it’s important to also schedule your tasks and see which can be accomplished in a short period of time and which needs more thorough work.

    3. Assess the day you just had. Looking back on how your day went helps you to see an overview of the completed and missed tasks from your to-do list. This allows you to review your performance for the day and see what needs to be improved. Also, you may work on rescheduling your missed tasks and do the necessary adjustments needed to accomplish all your deliverables.

Episode 109 | Why Entrepreneurs Give Up

Episode 109 | Why Entrepreneurs Give Up

What are a few common pitfalls for entrepreneurs and how can you avoid them!

    1. Not Enough Money! Many first-time entrepreneurs will give up as they need capital to start their business and then a steady income to manage daily expenses.  My suggestion is not to quit your stable income right away and start your business as a side hustle. I personally started Also Sophia.

    2. Afraid of Competition! Many quit or never start their business because they are scared of other businesses as competition. If you can reframe competition in business as a great way for you to refine your product or service to meet the challenge to solve your customer’s problem better than any other business, then business competition can be seen as a game. This will help improve the products offered by businesses and prevent monopolies.

    3. Afraid of Failure! Many do not start to give up as they are afraid to fail. If you can reframe to look at “failures” as lessons. Then, make sure you assess the “failure”. Was the goal too unrealistic and do you need a few smaller goals before the big goal? Or did you not set yourself up for success with resources? Look analytically at the “failure” and draw out the lessons.

    4. No Support! Feeling alone on the entrepreneurship journey can make it harder to navigate all the potential ups and downs if you do not have a supportive family or community. My suggestion is to find a group of like-minded individuals who will understand your drive to pursue a business. Remember, it may not be fair to your family and friends to support you if they do not have any experience in business and may feel overwhelmed by the risk. Remember, if you have a vision for your business, you have everything in your power to make it happen. And no one else can really tell you otherwise!

Episode 107 | How to Start 2023 with Successful Goal Setting

Episode 107 | How to Start 2023 with Successful Goal Setting

It’s January 2023 and it’s time to talk about goal setting! What is the significance to January 1st? It’s just any other date, right? Yes.. it is … but culturally, we have used the first of January as a starting point to frame our goals. Here are a few tips on how to make sure you set your goals up for success in 2023!

    1. Look to your North Star to guide you in your goal setting. What is the real reason you have committed to keeping your goal? It is helpful to align your goal with something other than money alone. Aligning your goal to an external cause will help keep you inspired to push forward when goals take longer to accomplish.
    2. Connect your goal to an already established routine. For example, if you want to take daily walks in 2023, the act of putting on your running shoes after your last daily meeting will help you move towards that goal of daily walks. Breaking down your goals into tangible single steps like putting on your running shoes, will help you move towards your goal. No schedule your small bit size steps into your day to bring you even closer to executing your goal!
    3. You will have days when you will need a break and may miss a day. Be kind to yourself and let yourself have some grace BUT get back on track! Tap into your North Star again and this will help propel you back into action. You should not let “getting off track” as an excuse to give up!

Episode 106 | Business Takes Patience [ 3 Tips to Help You in Your Business Journey]

Episode 106 | Business Takes Patience [ 3 Tips to Help You in Your Business Journey]

Business takes patience and the “get rich quick” mantras do not work. Sorry…even if you make a quick win, can you replicate it again? Remember business may look easier on the surface than many would like to admit to!

Here are a few tips to get you on the right track to help build your patience as you march through the entrepreneurial journey and not give up!

    1. Set expectations with yourself that the goal you have in mind might take longer to accomplish that you had previously thought. Remember, there are no “get rich quick” options and if someone is selling this rhetoric, they are likely trying to “get rich quick” off of you!
    2. Ask for help and delegate out tasks so you will not burn out on your entrepreneurial journey. Setting expectations with others as well, regarding delegated acts or boundaries will also help prevent you from burnout! This also applies to anyone who is working a traditional 9-5 too! How to Prioritize My To-Do List [AND Reduce The OVERWHELM]
    3.  Tell those that you trust your big goals so you hold yourself accountable and start making micro steps consistently. I share an example from my personal story of telling close family and friends that I was intentional with our first product line getting into Walmart.

Episode 105 | Why You SHOULD Keep Your 9 to 5! [Why I Didn't Quit My Day Job Right Away]

Episode 105 | Why You SHOULD Keep Your 9 to 5! [Why I Didn't Quit My Day Job Right Away]

You do not need to quit your 9 to 5 and it is ok to complete a side hustle! Do you agree or disagree?

Why do I believe this? Well…

    1. Running a business is like completing a series of experiments. You do not know what will work and what will not work out. By allowing yourself to continue with your contingency plan of the 9 to 5, you are allowing yourself the opportunity to experiment with what you like and what you dislike, what will work and what will not work, without feeling too overwhelmed and stressed. A founder example is Phil Knight who owned and founded Nike. Go grab the book by Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike from Audible.
    2. Having a 9 to 5 job will allow you a stable income so you have less stress at the beginning of your entrepreneurial journey regarding cash flow. The reduced stress will allow you to become more creative in your business, as stress naturally hinders creativity and innovation. A stable income will also allow you to provide for your family and reduce the guilt that comes along for many when starting a new business.
    3. Working a 9 to 5 at the beginning stages of your side hustle will allow for decisions based on logic versus emotions, as cash flow will be more stable personally. You will not take on clients and customers that you did not hope for, and only provide products and services for your most ideal clients and customers.

If you can manage your time and energy, you can definitely start a side hustle while working 9 to 5 and still have time for family and friends! And then, when you’re ready and you know your side hustle can become the real deal… then burn the boats and jump all in!!
