We're with our coverage of the book of Esther. This week we're jumping into chapter 8 with the aftermath of the hanging of Haman. Esther makes her plea to the King to save the Jewish people. Mordecai is given a promotion within the royal court and both are given the authority to write a counter decree to solve the problem of Haman's original law.

If not, that at the very least you were able to spend time reflecting on God and spending time with God. So, not to sound like a cliche pastor here but don't fall into the trap of new year's resolutions, new year, new you, all of that kind of nonsense. Speaker 1: We had gone through Esther, chapter 7, and we had hit Haman's ironic ending. Ironic because he was hanged in the same spot as that he had prepared for Mordecai. And we saw the interference of Esther into the situation and went through all of that. And so now we are picking up with Esther chapter 8 starting at verse 1. On that day, King Ahasuerus gave to Queen Esther the house of Haman, the enemy of the Jews.

Speaker 1: And Mordecai came before the king, for Esther had told what he was to her. And the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman and gave it to Mordecai, and Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman. Then Esther spoke again to the king. She fell at his feet and wept and pleaded with him to avert the evil plan of Haman the Agagite, and the plot that he had devised against the Jews. When the king held out the golden scepter to Esther, Esther rose and stood before the king, and she said, If it please the king, and if I have found favor in his sight, and if the thing seems right before the king, and I am pleasing in his eyes, let an order be written to revoke the letters devised by him in the Agagite, the son of Hamadathah, which he wrote to destroy the Jews who are in all the provinces of the king.
