    About this Episode

Hey Gospel Fans she is coming to the DFW Metroplex this weekend. Evelyn Turrentine-Agee and she is back! Also known as Gods Woman, EVELYNs brand new album GO THROUGH has just been released on LIGHT RECORDS. Produced by the talented ASAPH WARD (Twinkie Clark, Kim Burrell, Virtue), its the follow-up to the Stellar-Award nominated Its Already Done. I wanted this record to demonstrate that while I am a quartet singer, Im more than just that, says Evelyn. It was my desire to have this project demonstrate some versatility in my ministry. Her favorite, I Am Yours is her self-proclaimed love song featuring a duet with Bishop Neal Robinson. It is my _expression to God, emotionally stated by Evelyn, I am giving him all I have for all he has done. Other soon-to-be classics include of course the title track Go Through and Thank You; a new song, new version of the praise phrase. For her fans, they can never get enough of this so Evelyn has determined to have a new song and version of thank you appear on every album of her career. Evelyn is a native of St. Louis, Missouri now living in Detroit, Michigan. This energetic, multifaceted lady wears many hats daily. She is a wife, mother (11), grandmother (50+), great-grandmother (2), homemaker, business owner and operator, evangelist, and recording artist who spends much time attending to her elderly parents. She manages her own career and spends many hours ministering to and praying for family members and others daily. Evelyn is no stranger to gospel music as she has been singing all her life. She recorded with local groups and as a solo artist on major label compilation projects as well as her own solo album on CGI Records. After 11 years of being absent from the major gospel music scene, in January, 2000 Evelyn launched a new record project, God Did It, featuring the group she founded in 1972, The Warriors. God Did It, released on Evelyns own label, WOS Records, has ministered to all, young and old. Since its release, God Did It has been among one of the top requested songs on radio stations throughout the US and also receiving major rotation on top syndicated programs including Walt Baby Loves Gospel Traxx, Inspirations Across America, the Russ Parr Show, the Tom Joiner Show, Sheridan Gospel Networks The Light, ABC Radio Networks Rejoice, and Radio One Gospel Network. The full-length album, God Did It, has also experienced great success at retail charting on Billboard Magazines Top Gospel Album charts for over 30 weeks. Gospel media has not missed out on God Did It phenomena. Publications and columns such as Gospel Truth Magazine, D. Blackmons Gospel Insider, Urban Network Magazine, Billboard Magazines Inside the Spirit, Gospel Today, Gospel Industry Today, Behind the Scene and Urban Networks Inspired magazines have all given recognition to this anointed, talented woman of God and her music ministry. In October, 2002 Evelyn joined the Atlanta International Records (AIR Gospel) family and released her freshman project with that company, Its Already Done. In June of 2004 Evelyn signed and became a member of the Compendia Music Group..Light Records roster with her first record release Go Through in March, 2005. As a result of the success of God Did It, requests for Evelyn at concerts, revivals, conventions, television shows, and conferences have been staggering. Evelyn has not wavered in her commitment to spread Gods word with the opportunity His favor has given her by sometimes making over 5 personal appearances weekly and practically non-stop. Whenever Evelyn is asked how she has been able to achieve such instant recognition after being away from gospel music for over 11 years, she will simply reply, GOD DID IT. -more- 2004 Stellar Awards Recipient Traditional Female Vocalist of the Year 2003 American Gospel Quartet Convention Favorite Female Vocalist 2003 Stellar Awards Nominee Traditional Female Vocalist of the Year 2002 Gospel Insider Awards Nominee Traditional Female Vocalist and CD of the Year 2002 Stellar Awards Nominee Traditional Female Vocalist and CD of the Year 2002 GTM Awards Favorite Female Quartet 2002 Spirit of Detroit Award 2002 Key to the City, Pinebluff, Arkansas 2002 BMI Performing Rights Administration Award Most Performed Urban Gospel Song for 2001 (God Did It) 2002 NAGPM Gold Cup Award Female Gospel Artist of the Year 2002 American Gospel Quartet Convention St. Louis Chapter Achievement Award 2001 Soul Train Lady of Soul Award Nominee 2001 NAGPM (Natl Assoc. of Gospel Promoters and Mgrs.) Thelma Wells "Don't give in God wants you to win"

Thelma Wells "Don't give in God wants you to win"
I'm very honored to have Ms Thelma Wells on my show here at Rejoice Musical Soul Food. Ms. Wells is preparing for her conference during the month of May in Garland, Texas. Here is some general infomation on Thelma Wells. Be sure to visit her website for more information. From times of singing in a dark closet to the founding of a national women’s mentoring ministry, Thelma Wells' life has been a courageous journey of faith. The name on her birth certificate read simply: Baby Girl Morris. Thelma’s mother was a severely deformed teenager with no husband and no place to go, since her own abusive mother insisted that she take the baby and leave the house. So when the baby was born, her unwed teenage mother found work as a maid cleaning “the big house” while living with her baby daughter in servants’ quarters. Eventually, the baby went to live with her great-grandparents, who called her Thelma Louise Smith and loved her dearly. They took little Thelma to church, where she learned to love the hymns and praise songs. On those occasions when Thelma was taken to her grandparents’ home, her grandmother abused her, just as she had tormented Thelma’s mother. She was locked in a dark, smelly, insect-infested closet until just before her grandfather came home when her grandmother would bring her out of the closet, clean her up, and act as if all was well. In spite of her deep fear, little Thelma spent her time in the closet singing every hymn and praise song she could remember. She would sing herself to sleep in that closet, and the Lord received this little girl’s innocent praise and rewarded it with an abundant life of joy, protecting her from feelings of anger or bitterness. Thelma grew up to become a trailblazer for black women, a prominent international speaker and author, and a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. As a student at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas (now the University of North Texas), she was a member of the first group of girls to integrate the school’s dormitories. She earned her Bachelor’s degree there and eventually received a Master’s of Ministry from Master’s International School of Divinity in Evansville, Indiana. In 2002 she became the school’s first black female professor. In 1980 Thelma became the first black woman in the South to organize her own international speaking and consulting corporation. Her natural talent for public speaking and storytelling attracted the attention of the Women of Faith Tour, and in 1996 she became the first black core speaker for the organization. She has authored several books, including her latest God Is Not Through With Me Yet, an inspiring examination of her own life experiences in which she encourages readers to “sing in the closets of their lives.” She serves as the president of The Daughters of Zion Leadership Mentoring Program, an organization she founded in 2000 (another first for a black woman). Through this ministry, “Mama T,” as she is affectionately called, has mentored over 100 spiritual daughters, received an honorary doctorate degree and was ordained into the Christian Ministry on December 16, 2008, from St. Thomas Christian College and Theological Seminary and the Association of Christian Churches in Jacksonville, Florida. She was also was named Extraordinary Woman of the Year 2008 by Mrs. Julie Clinton, Host of the Extraordinary Women Conferences an affiliate of the American Association of Christian Counselors. Thelma has been married to George Wells, her best friend, supporter, and encourager, for over 45 years. The couple lives in Dallas, Texas, and has three children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Troy Sneed Latest project in Due Season
Troy Sneed has done it again and this song is awesome. The year of 2007 is beginning as nicely for Troy Sneed as 2006 ended. The energetic singer is enjoying his first Top 5 Billboard Hot Gospel song as a soloist with the rousing praise tune, “Hallelujah.” The song is the lead single from Sneed’s latest cd, “In His Presence” (Emtro Gospel) which is currently #31 on Soundscan’s praise and worship album sales chart. Meanwhile, Sneed has also netted his first Soul Train Music Award nomination for Youth for Christ’s 2006 smash, “The Struggle is Over.” The song, written by Jonathan Nelson & Justin Savage, spent a dozen weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart last year and also won a Stellar Award as Best Children’s Recording of the Year. Sneed and Nelson lead the song with backing by a choir of youth hailing from the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. region. It is nominated alongside tunes by Kirk Franklin, the Caravans and Bishop G.E. Patterson. The awards will be announced March 10, 2007 at a ceremony at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium outside of Hollywood, CA. Meanwhile it is my prayer that you will be bless by his latest project featuring the new single "With you Always" God Bless, Cedric Bailey Afternoon Host "Rejoice Musical Soul Food" www.musicalsoulfood.com 2pm est to 7pm

“2009 How Sweet the Sound Seeks America’s Best Church Choir”

“2009 How Sweet the Sound Seeks America’s Best Church Choir”
2009 HOW SWEET THE SOUND™ SEEKS AMERICA’S BEST CHURCH CHOIR Radio Interview with Cedric Bailey on "Rejoice Musical Soul Food" Grammy-winning producer, composer and recording artist Donald Lawrence is one of the most influential figures in modern gospel music. After a stint as music director for soul legend Stephanie Mills, Lawrence made a splash in the gospel world by reshaping the regional Tri-City Singers in the 1990s and transforming them into an internationally acclaimed choir. As a producer, Lawrence has collaborated with artists as diverse as Mary J. Blige and jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis, Hezekiah Walker and the legendary Clark Sisters. Now, Lawrence is producing himself again (along with Daniel Weatherspoon) for his sophomore solo CD The Law of Confession Part 1 (Quiet Water/ Zomba Gospel). Inspired by the forthcoming book “The Law of Confession” by Bill Winston (Lawrence’s pastor at Chicago’s Living Word Christian Center), Lawrence has crafted an epic recording that revolves around a simple Biblical tenet. “A law is simply a principle, based on the predictable consequence of an act,” Lawrence says. “Confession in the Greek language is homo-logeo which means to say what has been said. There is a spiritual law for confession: you just say what God has already said...`Speak The Word.’” Lawrence and his ten-plus member backing ensemble, The Co. (which backed him on his Grammy-nominated 2004 I Speak Life solo CD debut), create a warmly engaging atmosphere on this stellar project. “I picked lead singers based on the feel and color of the song,” he opines. “Since I've worked with so many singers and I believe some of the best singers on this planet - I'm extremely picky when it comes to lead vocals. They must have a lot of heart!” The new incarnation of The Co. features such notables as Dewayne Woods (who won the Stellar Award for Best New Artist of the Year in 2008 following his smash hit “Let Go, Let God”), the effervescent Kim McFarland-Anderson, the dynamic Jason Nelson and Latrice Pace of the Anointed Pace Sisters. The group is rounded out with Lisa Jones, Tobbi White-Darks, Tommie White, Dawn Jordan, Blanche McAllister-Dykes, Anita Wilson, Michael Smith, and Floyd Wilkinson. The Co. is comprised of some of the industry’s best singers that Lawrence has met since moving to Chicago in 2001 and those he’s known since his days in North Carolina. The Charlotte native was raised by a church-going aunt in Gastonia where he sang in the Mills Chapel Fire Baptized Holiness Church’s choir. He grew up on the music of gospel icons like Thomas Whitfield. A self taught pianist and organist, Lawrence began writing songs at the age of sixteen. He put himself through the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and was staging plays such as “Sing Hallelujah” (which opened at New York’s storied Village Gate) when R&B star Stephanie Mils tapped him as her music director circa 1989. Aside from his duties with Mills, he was a member of an inspirational R&B group, The Company. Their single “Angel” was an R&B hit in 1993, the same year that Lawrence produced the first Tri-City Singers album, From A Songwriter’s Point of View. Lawrence had been feeding his songs to the Tri-City Singers (comprised of singers from the Carolina cities of Charlotte, Gastonia and Spartanburg) through his pal Richard Odom, who was a member of the choir. The choir’s members enjoyed the songs so much that Lawrence was eventually asked to shepherd the group. Over the next fifteen years, Lawrence guided the choir into superstar status in the gospel world with hits such as “The Best is Yet to Come”, “Encourage Yourself” and “The Blessing of Abraham” which was #1 on the Radio & Records gospel chart for a then-record breaking 18 weeks in 2005. After a very successful Finale CD/DVD release and farewell concert tour with the Tri-City Singers, Lawrence retired from the group in 2007 to focus on personal and solo pursuits. Get Ready for How Sweet the Sound 2009 Registration for How Sweet the Sound 2009 will begin April 1st. Once you've registered your choir, you’ll need to submit a video of no longer than three minutes in DVD, Mini DV, VHS format, or upload online. Once our judges have chosen the top 16 choirs, invite your community to logon to www.howsweetthesound.com to vote for their favorites. Four category winners will then be chosen in each of the two designated categories: · Few Voices: 1 - 35 Performers on stage · Many Voices: 36 - 100 Performers on stage These eight choirs will go on to perform in the live regional event. From these eight, two winners, one from each category, will win $10,000 for their choir. One overall winner will win a Verizon Wireless handset and $50 gift card for each choir member and will then perform at the grand finale event where they can win up to $25,000. Finally, a Verizon Wireless V CAST People’s Choice Award will be given to the choir who really captures the heart of the community. They will win $5,000. Be a Part of the Celebration Gospel music has joined communities together for generations. And community is at the root of our How Sweet the Sound celebration. Without our talented choirs and enthusiastic crowds, our unbelievable experience in 2008 would never have happened. But, we also know that community is more than just music. This is why we ask you to join us in helping collect phones for victims of domestic violence, and help us celebrate the art community with our community art program. And as an added bonus, sing your heart out at our gospel karaoke booth available at all of our events. Old Phones = New Hope Almost everybody has at least one mobile phone they’re no longer using. So we ask you to gather up that phone and bring it with you to your city’s How Sweet the Sound event. There, you can drop off your old wireless phone, battery and accessories in support of our Hopeline Charity Program. And then you can go enjoy the How Sweet the Sound concert knowing that women and children all over the country are benefiting from your generous donation. Gospel Karaoke Want to sing, but don’t want to sing in front of ten thousand people? Then step right up to our Gospel Karaoke stage and sing for a smaller crowd. Our Gospel Karaoke booth will be available at every concert, so we invite you to stop by and check it out. Who knows, maybe your performance will make it on to our website for you to enjoy again and again
