    Podcast Summary

    • Body ImageBody image issues can deeply affect individuals, especially women, leading to shame and distraction from their lives. Open conversations can help address these struggles and promote acceptance and self-worth.

Many people, especially women, struggle silently with body image issues, dieting, and the constant pressure to conform to societal standards of beauty. This struggle can lead to significant mental stress and distracts from fully participating in life. It’s important to recognize these challenges, release feelings of shame, and learn to appreciate one’s self-worth beyond external appearances. Discussions around these topics can help individuals feel understood and less alone in their experiences. By addressing the stigma and fostering open conversations, we can create a supportive environment where people feel empowered to embrace their bodies and live authentically, free from the constraints of negative thoughts and societal expectations.

    • Struggles UnveiledMany women hide their struggles with body image and food behind a perfect facade. Chronic dieting leads to a cycle of binging and guilt, highlighting the need for a healthier relationship with food and body image instead of rigid dieting.

Many women struggle with feelings of inadequacy and body image issues, often hidden behind a facade of success and perfection. This emotional turmoil frequently stems from chronic dieting and an obsessive relationship with food, leading to a cycle of binging and restrictive eating. As they face the pressure to conform to societal ideals of health and thinness, they feel increasingly out of control, which can spiral into deeper feelings of guilt and shame. Real change comes not from stricter diets or more exercise, but from addressing the root causes of these struggles and finding a healthier relationship with food and body image. It’s essential to acknowledge that these feelings are common and that seeking support can help break free from this unhealthy cycle, leading to a more balanced and fulfilling life.

    • Understanding StrugglesStruggles with food and body image are complex and deeply rooted in personal experience. True support comes from those who understand this pain, as empathy is often lacking from those who haven’t faced similar challenges.

Many women struggle with unhealthy relationships with food and body image, feeling like they can’t escape the cycle of diets and binge eating. Support from family and friends often misses the mark, as they may not truly understand the pain and pressure these women experience. True empathy comes from shared experience, and for those who haven’t faced these struggles, it’s hard to grasp the emotional weight of living in a constant state of anxiety around food. Real change requires a shift in mindset, learning to see food as nourishment rather than an enemy, which can seem impossible if disordered thoughts have been ingrained for so long. Acknowledging these challenges is the first step towards healing, enabling women to embrace a new perspective where food is just food, free from judgment and obsession, leading to a more peaceful existence.

    • Dieting CycleWomen often fall into harmful cycles of dieting and food obsession driven by societal pressures and fears. To heal, it's important to rewire how we think about food rather than just changing our mindset.

Many women struggle with a cycle of dieting and obsession with food and weight, which makes it harder to heal their relationships with food. This cycle is often rooted in fears and societal pressures that make people feel like they must stay in control, even if it leads to unhappiness. Those who haven't experienced this mindset may not understand the emotional connection some have with food. The reality is, many women suffer from disordered eating patterns, and simply changing one’s mindset is often not enough. To truly address these issues, it’s essential to rewire the brain's responses related to food and to seek healing rather than quick fixes, as the problem can deepen over time if not properly addressed.

    • Emotional StrugglesEmotional struggles like shame and anxiety can hinder personal growth and healthy eating, making traditional advice often ineffective. Understanding these feelings is key to overcoming challenges.

A significant part of personal struggles, especially regarding mental health and body image, comes from feelings of shame, anxiety, and isolation. Many who give advice about dieting or fitness may not understand the underlying emotional challenges. These feelings often lead to a cycle of failure and self-doubt, trapping individuals in unhealthy eating habits. It's important to recognize that the internal battles can cloud judgment and make it seem impossible to overcome these hurdles. Seeking help from those who have lived similar experiences can be more beneficial than traditional advice that lacks empathy. It's crucial to address these complex feelings to break free from this cycle of shame and reestablish a healthier relationship with food and oneself.

    • Body Image StrugglesMany women feel trapped by negative body image, leading to shame and emotional struggles that impact their lives significantly. It's important to recognize that this is more than just weight loss; it’s about healing emotional wounds and reclaiming self-worth. Acknowledging these challenges is the first step toward empowerment and confidence.

Many women struggle with the way they perceive their bodies and this can lead to feelings of shame, embarrassment, and a sense of being trapped. This negative self-image affects their daily lives, making them avoid activities they enjoy and even distancing them from their loved ones. Often, these feelings are downplayed or dismissed because the issues seem less significant compared to other problems. However, recognizing that these body image struggles are deeply impactful is crucial. It's not just about weight loss; it's about the emotional burden and the lasting effects on self-esteem and confidence. To begin healing, women must acknowledge these feelings and understand that they are not alone. The journey toward self-acceptance and body positivity requires addressing these deep-rooted issues and reclaiming one’s identity beyond societal expectations.

    • Breaking FreeStruggling with food and body image can feel isolating and shameful, but you’re not alone, and you’ve done nothing wrong. Acknowledging the issue is the first step to healing. It’s important to shift your mindset and begin to free yourself from the obsession with diets and societal expectations. You can choose to embrace a healthier, happier relationship with food and yourself.

You might be struggling with a hidden health issue related to food and body image, but you're not alone and you haven't done anything wrong. It's crucial to understand that this struggle is not just about food—it's about breaking free from the mindset conditioned by diets and societal expectations. Many people feel ashamed of their secret battles, but acknowledging this issue is the first step towards healing. Through a mindset shift and self-acceptance, you can learn to live without obsession over food and feel free to enjoy life. Embrace the idea that it's okay to seek change, and remember that the journey begins with facing your truth. You don't have to share this struggle with others until you're ready, but it's essential to stop hiding it from yourself. By doing so, you can transition from feeling trapped in a cycle of shame to experiencing genuine freedom in your relationship with food and your body.

    • Healing JourneyAcknowledge your struggles openly to start healing. Shift from shame to strength by embracing your story. Wanting to heal from diets is valid and possible—support and resources can guide you towards peace and freedom.

Acknowledging personal issues is a vital first step in healing. It's important to stop hiding problems from ourselves. When we bring them to light, shame starts to fade, and these challenges can become part of our stories of strength and triumph instead of shame. Healing from an obsession with dieting is possible; you don't have to feel alone in this journey. It’s about rewiring the way we think about food and self-image, moving away from restrictive diets to a more balanced approach. Remember, wanting to heal is valid, and this journey can lead to a sense of peace and freedom. Support is available, like resources and podcasts that focus on self-image and brain science intersection, reminding us that change is achievable with the right mindset. Embracing this process can allow individuals to rewrite their narratives into empowering stories.

PART 2: Do You WANT to Stop Dieting, But You Have No Idea What That Even Looks Like (and the alternative terrifies you!)? Let's Talk About It! (Outweigh)

PART 2: Do You WANT to Stop Dieting, But You Have No Idea What That Even Looks Like (and the alternative terrifies you!)? Let's Talk About It! (Outweigh)

OUTWEIGH: Leanne is back for Part 2 of this series to help you understand how to get off the diet roller coaster for good.

So many women WANT to stop dieting, but they don't know how, or they don't know what that even looks like, because it's all they've ever known.

So this idea of "food freedom" or NOT being on some sort of diet is not only foreign to them, but it's actually pretty scary, because all their brain has known is what it's like to count, measure, restrict, and control.

Or their brain knows what it's like to bounce to the opposite end of the spectrum, and end up in an uncontrollable cycle of mindless eating, emotional eating, stress eating, or binging, and they just end up feeling super out-of-control.

This week Leanne is laying out the 5 step crystal-clear path way to finally STOP dieting without feeling like you're going off the deep end if you're NOT on something.

    HOST: @leanneellington

Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone + Why You Should Never Kiss Your Dog + Gratitude + Mantras & Intentions for 2024 (the Year of Empowerment)

FIRST THING: Amy read something special her sister wrote called That Time We Tore Down the Fence. Loving your neighbors well, getting outside of your comfort zone, and answering dreams, but never forgetting what you have experienced and learned and loved on the way.

SECOND THING: Taft Hansen (a medical laboratory scientist/parasitologist) is a guest for this continued conversation about parasites. He sent Amy an email after hearing her episode with Katie Decker and he wanted to contribute. They talk about why you should never kiss your dog, cooking meat properly, parasites in the brain and more.

3RD THING: Taft's wife Morgan joins in for '4 Things Gratitude' and some good movie, tv and book recommendations come up during it!

4TH THING: Amy's cousin, Amanda Rieger Green is on talking about how 2024 is the year of empowerment. She released a Numerology Guide Book that’s special for this year (an 8 year, BTW) and people are loving it, so Amanda gave us the details & also shared with us some mantras and intentions that are good for us to use this year specifically!

PART 1: Do You WANT to Stop Dieting, But You Have No Idea What That Even Looks Like (and the alternative terrifies you!)? Let's Talk About It! (Outweigh)

OUTWEIGH: So many women WANT to stop dieting, but they don't know how, or they don't know what that even looks like, because it's all they've ever known.

But again, NOT being ON something scares them, because when they are not ON, they are totally OFF, and as you can imagine, it's one massive vicious cycle and downward spiral.

And because this topic truly is multi-faceted, Leanne broke it up into 2 parts. Part 1 is about the mindset and heartset and brainset shifts that need to happen to make the strategy-side-of-things Leanne will share in Part 2 even possible.

So enjoy this episode, and make sure to come back next week where Leanne is going to break it down into 5 crystal clear steps of what that actually looks like to heal from the diet mentality for good.

Elevate Your Confidence, Style & Power with This Life-Changing Tip

Elevate Your Confidence, Style & Power with This Life-Changing Tip

Amy just discovered color matching & it's blown her mind. Her guest, Hannah Garber (a color analyst) breaks it all down for us. Amy met Hannah after she booked an appointment to find out her "season" (she learned she's a 'cool summer' palette, btw) and when Hannah told Amy her underlying skin tone was one that radiates in NAVY BLUE & NOT BLACK Amy was fascinated! She knew she wanted Hannah on the podcast ASAP. Why are we just now learning about this? In a nutshell, we all have certain colors that give us the power to show up with more confidence and look our best. Everything from the way we color our hair, to our makeup choices, the clothing we wear, nail color, jewelry etc..

Amy & Hannah talk about the colors/seasons (winter, summer, spring & autumn), confidence, capsule wardrobes (imagine if getting dressed was easy!!), the science behind it all, how Hollywood uses color matching for character building (shout out Anne Hathoway in Devil Wears Prada) & so much more (like memories of our moms with their signature lip colors & how switching your mascara color from black to brown is a game-changer or vice versa...it all depends on the "season" that you are!)

DM Hannah on IG. She'd love to hear from you: @houseofcolournashville_hannah

How Gwyneth Paltrow Releases Anger & Do You Rank Your Friends? (5th Thing)

How Gwyneth Paltrow Releases Anger & Do You Rank Your Friends? (5th Thing)

Today’s quote is from Ally Fallon: “You rarely know the whole story already – when things don’t make sense it’s usually because there’s missing data, untapped information. Maybe someone is keeping something from you, maybe you’re keeping something from yourself. Maybe certain things are none of your business - and maybe you need to wait a little longer to collect more puzzle pieces.”

What are the facts in the story you’ve built in your head? Practice patience – the other pieces of the puzzle are coming.

Amy & Kat “popcorn” through different topics:

    • How Kat’s feeling leading up to her wedding!
    • What’s the right way to order your bridesmaids/groomsmen?
    • Survey: 1/3 of Americans feel lonely at least once per week
    • Filling your cup with connection & community
    • Horrible hygiene habits that are way too common
    • Gwyneth Paltrow uses a baseball bat to release anger
    • Emotional intelligence quiz
    • Gaslighting and the Keanu Reeves mindset (2+2=5)

Will Amy make 2024 the year of no shoes in her house? Only time will tell :)

Wishing Kat a happy wedding week!!! Check out her episode about The Loneliness Epidemic on You Need Therapy.
