    Podcast Summary

    • Prioritize self-care and consider using services like Instacart when feeling under the weatherWhen ill, prioritize self-care, delegate tasks, and utilize delivery services to maintain productivity. Economic developments include potential inflation slowdown and decreasing unemployment rate, but inflation remains a significant challenge due to pandemic disruptions and the war in Ukraine.

When you're feeling under the weather and the pressure to work is high, prioritize self-care and consider using services like Instacart to have essentials delivered to you quickly. It's important to remember that attending every meeting or working through illness isn't necessary, and delegating tasks can be an effective solution. Additionally, there are economic developments to keep an eye on, such as the potential slowing of inflation and the decreasing unemployment rate. However, it's important to note that inflation has been a significant issue due to pandemic-related disruptions and the war in Ukraine, leading to increased prices for consumers. Economist Heather Boshi, a member of the President's Council of Economic Advisors, emphasizes the challenges consumers have faced due to these factors.

    • Struggling Families Despite Price StabilityPresident focuses on job creation to mitigate long-term effects of high prices and unemployment, committed to lowering prices and supporting those in need

While prices for certain goods have fallen and remained stable in recent months, the economic impact of high prices earlier in the year left many families struggling. However, the focus on job creation, which has reached record lows for over 21 months, has helped mitigate the long-term effects of unemployment and income loss. The president remains committed to lowering prices and providing support for those in need through federal programs. Despite concerns about affordability, the priority remains on maintaining a strong economy and ensuring employment opportunities.

    • Investing in jobs and communities in needThe Biden administration is making targeted investments to create jobs and support communities, with a focus on lower income areas and historically neglected regions, including fossil fuel energy communities, through both public and private sector initiatives, and ensuring essential services access.

The Biden administration is focused on creating jobs and supporting communities in need through targeted investments. This includes both public and private sector investments, which are disproportionately going to lower income communities and areas that have been historically neglected, such as fossil fuel energy communities. The administration's Invest in America agenda is aimed at ensuring that these investments reach those who need them most, with a particular focus on creating opportunities for individuals to get jobs and access essential services like healthcare and food assistance. The cooperation between the federal government and states, like Texas, is also crucial in advancing these initiatives. Overall, the goal is to make investments that benefit all of America and help lift up communities that have been left behind.

    • Making Economic Data Accessible and Addressing InflationThe Biden administration is making economic data accessible, acknowledging the Fed and gov't role in inflation, and using tools to address high shipping costs. Opinions on gov't role in inflation differ among leaders.

The Biden administration is working to make economic data accessible to the public, breaking down information about infrastructure projects and their impact on communities, while acknowledging the role of both the Federal Reserve and the federal government in addressing inflation. The administration has utilized various tools to ensure fair and competitive markets, such as addressing high shipping costs during the pandemic. However, opinions on the federal government's role in inflation may vary among political leaders, like Texas Governor Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick.

    • Federal government addresses ocean shipping price hikesThe president and Congress worked together to pass legislation to mitigate ocean shipping price hikes, while the federal government also invests in clean energy for affordable and reliable energy access.

The federal government played a crucial role in addressing skyrocketing ocean shipping prices during the pandemic, which had a significant impact on supply chains and affordability of goods. Three conglomerates dominated the ocean shipping industry and increased prices substantially. The president worked with the administration and Congress to pass legislation to mitigate these price hikes. Meanwhile, state governors have limited authority in this area. The president is also making substantial investments in clean energy to ensure access to affordable and reliable energy. Heather Busci from the Council of Economic Advisers discussed these efforts. Additionally, there's a trend in the health industry towards fasting for weight loss and improved gut health. Prolon, a company specializing in fasting foods, offers nourishing options during fasting periods. Prolon's approach is based on Nobel Prize-winning discoveries and is now recommended by thousands of doctors for healthy blood sugar and cardiovascular health. Streaming listeners can enjoy a 10% discount on Prolon's offerings until March 31st by visiting prolonlife.com/offer.

Why are accessible swimming lessons crucial for preventing drownings?

Why are accessible swimming lessons crucial for preventing drownings?

Knowing how to swim isn't just out of fun for the summer, it's also important to recognize that not everyone has always had the opportunity to learn to swim. This is why it is so important to recognize, in order to save lives around the water-- swimming lessons should be available for everyone.

"Only 46% of Black and 47% of Latine children had swimming lessons, compared to 72% of white children," according to a parent survey (Northwestern/Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago). Studies show there is a generational influence, if the parent doesn't know how to swim, most likely, the child will not learn either.

To help break this cycle, the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas is stepping in with the goal to eliminate childhood drowning (CDC says drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4). The Y partners with apartment complexes across the metroplex to offer free Safety Around Water lessons (SAW) to children who otherwise wouldn't have access. Last year, the SAW program served 5,834 swimmers!

On Ask the Expert, Jen Pewitt joined the KRLD Afternoon News. She is the Vice President of the YMCA Metropolitan Dallas.
