ICYMI - You're So Lucky You're White - NYC Bar Defies COVID-19 Rules

    enDecember 13, 2020

    Podcast Summary

    • Recognizing Unintended PrivilegesDuring hardships, acknowledging unintended privileges is essential, as they can significantly impact outcomes.

During these challenging times, it's important to recognize and appreciate the privileges some individuals have, even if unintentionally. The podcast discusses a white bar owner in Staten Island who, despite pandemic restrictions, declared his bar an autonomous zone. This action, reminiscent of historical white privilege, sparked controversy and drew large crowds. While many are suffering, it's crucial to acknowledge that certain privileges do exist and can make a significant difference. The podcast uses humor to highlight this issue, but the underlying message remains thought-provoking.

    • Racial bias in the application of justiceDespite evidence, racial bias can influence justice outcomes, emphasizing the need for equal treatment and fairness for all.

The unequal application of justice based on race continues to be a significant issue in society. The discussion revolves around an incident where a white man, Danny Presti, was involved in a car accident with a deputy during a protest against lockdown restrictions, yet he was released without bail. Contrastingly, if the man were black, the outcome might have been different. The speaker expresses his frustration towards the inconsistency and double standards, highlighting the need for equal treatment under the law. Despite the video evidence, Presti maintains his innocence and even bragged about the incident on Fox News. This situation underscores the importance of addressing systemic racism and striving for a fair and just society where everyone is held accountable for their actions, regardless of their race.

    • Media bias towards white individuals vs individuals of colorFox News portrays white individuals favorably while being harsher towards black individuals, highlighting the need for fairness and equal treatment in media coverage and law enforcement.

The discussion highlights the inconsistency and bias in the way certain media outlets, in this case, Fox News, cover stories involving white individuals versus individuals of color. The white business owner in question, who has flouted COVID-19 restrictions and allegedly hit a police officer, is portrayed as a peaceful protester and a hero by Fox News. Meanwhile, black individuals are often labeled as rioters and their actions are met with harsher judgement. The conversation also emphasizes the frustration and feeling of being overlooked by the government among small business owners, especially those facing restrictions during the pandemic. The underlying theme is the need for fairness and equal treatment under the law and in media coverage.

Matthew 20:1-16 - Out of the Marketplace & into the Vineyard

Matthew 20:1-16 - Out of the Marketplace & into the Vineyard
Sermon for Septugesima. The Scripture readings are Exodus 17:1-7; 1 Corinthians 9:24-10:5; and Matthew 20:1-16.

The parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard is not about companies and businesses who have limited assets. This parable is about the kingdom of your God who has unlimited resources, and His vast resources are only outmatched by His incalculable mercy. There is only one vineyard and one master who is fair and just as well as being merciful and gracious like this. You can certainly return to the marketplace if you want, but there you will only find justice and no mercy.

In the end, there is only One who has worked a full day’s shift – Jesus, the eternal Son of God. Jesus has borne the heat of the day. He has come and done the work you could not ever do. He has fully kept God’s Law and was perfectly obedient to God’s Commands. He willingly went to the cross got the wrath and punishment of sins that you deserve. For the joy that was set before Him, He endured the cross (Heb. 12:2) for you, and you get His wages. And this is Jesus’ full delight.

Because of the mercy and grace of God, you are no longer an overpaid worker. You are a member of the kingdom, a child of God, and a brother or sister of Christ. Not only do you get paid generously, you also remain in the vineyard.

Cancel Culture and the Bible (Romans 3:19,20)

    THE BIBLE ON CANCEL CULTURE

    Romans 3:19–20 (KJV 1900)

19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

There is one treatise that transcends them all in terms of a set of laws designed for the governance of man and it is found in the word of God. Exodus 20.
    Romans 3:19–20 (KJV 1900)
19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped (CANCELLED), and all the world may become guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Titus 1:10–11 (NIV)10 For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk and deception, especially those of the circumcision group. 11 They must be silenced (CANCELLED), because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain.
Romans 7:7–25 (KJV 1900)7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. 8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. 9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. 10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death. 11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me. 12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. 13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

DO YOU THINK THE CONSTITUTION  AS THE LAW OF THE LAND FOR THESE UNITED STATES CAN  DO WHAT THE LAW OF GOD COULD NOT DO? MANY OF YOU LIVE OR COME FROM OTHER COUNTRIES THAT ALSO HAVE THEIR ANSWER OR EQUIVALENCE TO OUR CONSTITUTION, DO YOU THINK THAT YOURS IS SUPERIOR TO DO WHAT GODS COULD NOT.

THE LAW OF FAILED NOT BECAUSE IT WAS FLAWED BUT BECAUSE MAN WAS FLAWED SO THE LAW KILLED US ALL.
