    • Misunderstandings in CommunicationClear communication is essential to avoid misunderstandings, but even clear messages can lead to unintended consequences.

Communication is important and can lead to misunderstandings if not clear. In this episode of Prissy Lonesome, the host shared her experience of jokingly announcing a move to LA, only to receive an influx of concerned messages from followers. She also discussed her failed attempt to rent a car in LA due to age restrictions and high insurance costs. Another topic covered was her discovery of a comment from a viewer who had left a profound impact on her, but due to a misspelled name, no one could find him. The host also shared her results from taking a Myers Briggs personality test twice and the changes in her results, raising questions about the stability of such assessments. Overall, the episode highlights the importance of clear communication and the potential consequences of misunderstandings.

    • Exploring personality types and self-careReflecting on personality traits can lead to personal growth and improved self-care. Utilize Tinder's safety features and Curology's customized skincare for enhanced experiences. Keep separate journals for different aspects of life to reflect and find balance.

Self-awareness and understanding one's personality type can lead to personal growth and improved self-care. The speaker in the text, Madeline, has been reflecting on her personality type and how it relates to her feelings of worthlessness and self-sabotage. She realizes that her introverted functions, such as introverted feeling and introverted sensing, contribute to her critical self-evaluation and neglect of her physical health. Through the discussion, Madeline also emphasizes the importance of safety while dating and the benefits of personalized skincare solutions. She encourages listeners to explore Tinder's safety features and Curology's customized skincare offerings to enhance their experiences in these areas of their lives. Additionally, Madeline shares her journaling system, which involves keeping three journals for different aspects of her life, allowing her to reflect on the small moments and larger updates. By focusing on these various aspects of her life and understanding how her personality traits influence them, Madeline is able to make positive changes and find balance.

    • Discovering the importance of self-care for personal growthReflecting on habits, setting boundaries, and learning from mistakes are key to maintaining self-care, productivity, and personal growth.

Maintaining stability and prioritizing self-care are crucial for personal growth and productivity. The speaker discovered this through her experience of overcoming burnout during the holiday season. By journaling daily and reflecting on her habits, she realized that being at home and taking care of herself were key factors in her improved mental and emotional state. However, she also acknowledged the importance of setting healthy boundaries and preserving her values to avoid being influenced by negative influences and maintaining self-respect. Despite her past struggles with self-sabotage, she emphasized the importance of learning from mistakes and making conscious choices to avoid repeating them. Overall, the speaker's experience highlights the importance of prioritizing self-care, setting healthy boundaries, and learning from past experiences to maintain a healthy and productive lifestyle.

    • INFJs struggle with loneliness due to their empathy and prioritizing othersINFJs, who prioritize intimacy and loyalty, struggle with loneliness due to their empathy and tendency to put others first. They can improve their emotional wellbeing by surrounding themselves with healthy, supportive people and setting boundaries.

INFJs, who value intimacy and loyalty above all, can struggle with loneliness due to their hyper-awareness of their feelings and empathy towards others. They have a tendency to prioritize others' needs over their own, leading to feelings of guilt and self-doubt. This can make it difficult for INFJs to trust themselves and rely on their own judgment, as they often second-guess their decisions and feel responsible for others' emotions. As a result, they may find themselves in toxic relationships or environments that drain their energy and compromise their values. It's crucial for INFJs to surround themselves with healthy, moral people who share their values and provide a sense of belonging and support. By recognizing their emotional sensitivity and learning to set boundaries, INFJs can cultivate self-awareness, self-worth, and a strong sense of identity.

    • The importance of self-grace in self-improvementStrive for growth but give yourself grace for mistakes, everyone deserves empathy, find balance, prioritize safety, and use resources to hire the best talent

Constantly seeking self-improvement can turn into a self-destructive cycle if it leads to an unhealthy fear of being wrong and a lack of self-grace. This fear can stem from a deep-rooted belief that only by constantly growing and bettering oneself does one deserve space and energy in the world. However, it's important to remember that everyone deserves empathy and grace, including ourselves, and that the world is not black and white but full of complexities and nuances. It's essential to find a balance between striving for self-improvement and giving ourselves the grace to make mistakes and learn from them. Additionally, it's crucial to prioritize safety when putting oneself out there, such as when dating, and to utilize tools like Tinder's safety features to help ensure peace of mind. Finally, when hiring for a business, it's important to act fast and use resources like ZipRecruiter to find the most talented candidates before the competition does.

    • The power of reflection and changing perspectivesOur past experiences can shape our perceptions, but we have the power to change our perspectives and make new experiences that challenge or override old ones. Being open to change and willing to try new things can lead to unexpected discoveries and personal growth.

Sometimes our past experiences can shape our perceptions and feelings about certain things, but it doesn't mean those feelings are set in stone. In the story shared, the speaker had a negative association with caravan parks due to childhood memories of feeling lonely and bored. However, years later, she found herself craving the idea of owning a caravan and seeking peace and quiet away from the constant noise of city life. This shows that our past experiences can influence us, but we have the power to change our perspectives and make new experiences that challenge or even override old ones. Additionally, the speaker emphasized the importance of trying new things and being open to change. She initially thought buying a caravan was a joke due to her past experiences, but eventually came to see it as a desirable option for her current lifestyle. This illustrates the value of being willing to try new things, even if they seem unfamiliar or uncomfortable at first. Lastly, the speaker highlighted the importance of self-reflection and recognizing personal traits or tendencies. She realized that she can't do things halfway, and this insight helped her understand why she had such a strong reaction to caravan parks in the past and why she was now drawn to the idea of owning one. Overall, the story offers insights into the power of reflection, the importance of being open to change, and the ways in which our past experiences can shape but not define our present preferences.

    • The speaker functions best with complete structure or complete freedomThe speaker's productivity and mental wellbeing depend on having either a fully structured or completely unstructured life, with no middle ground

The speaker functions best when her life is either completely structured or completely unstructured, with no middle ground. She thrives on being fully engaged or fully disengaged, and finds it difficult to handle routine tasks or spare time. When she has too many small tasks to do, she becomes unproductive and loses focus. The speaker plans to experiment with living in a caravan, as she believes the simplicity and lack of structure would suit her way of functioning. She also finds that her energy and productivity are heightened when she's in a new environment or traveling, as she's fully engaged and doesn't have the distractions of daily life. Overall, the speaker's productivity and mental wellbeing depend on having either complete structure or complete freedom.

    • Childhood Memories of Campsites and Woolly Bear CampsiteNostalgia for past experiences and the joy of finding personalized solutions stand out in this conversation.

The speaker has fond memories of various campsites from her childhood, each with unique mascots and distinct experiences. The Woolly Bear Campsite stood out with its Winnie the Pooh-like mascot and upscale amenities, including an arcade and Willy the Bear-shaped lollipops. The speaker expresses a desire to return but acknowledges that it may not be the same. Additionally, she shares her experience with trying different skincare products throughout her life and the relief she found with Curology's personalized prescriptions. Overall, the conversation highlights the importance of cherishing past experiences and the significance of finding solutions tailored to individual needs.

    • Childhood memories of competition and scarcityNostalgia for cherished moments of competition and adventure despite scarcity and adversity

The speaker's childhood memories are filled with moments of competition, scarcity, and small victories. The speaker recalls the excitement of being allowed to go to the store alone with her older sister during family vacations and the ensuing competition over who could make their Hubba Bubba gum last the longest. The scarcity of gum in their daily lives made these moments all the more cherished. The speaker also remembers an instance of having her winnings stolen from her at an arcade and feeling powerless to do anything about it. Despite these challenges, the speaker's nostalgia for these childhood experiences remains strong, and she recalls the sense of adventure and freedom that came with family vacations. The memories of being crammed in the backseat of the family car and the excitement of discovering a glitch that gave her unlimited free games at the arcade add to the rich tapestry of her childhood experiences. Overall, the speaker's memories highlight the importance of cherishing small moments of joy and competition in the face of scarcity and adversity.

    • Childhood memories and the power of nostalgiaNostalgia can evoke strong emotions and memories from our past, often connected to simple pleasures and people we had crushes on.

Nostalgia can be a powerful trigger for emotions and memories. The speaker recounted a childhood experience of going on caravan holidays with her family, and how recently, being in her father's car and visiting the Woolly Bear campsite brought back vivid memories and a strong desire to recreate those experiences. The speaker also shared how the memory of a girl she had a crush on at the campsite, whom she had no further contact with, had stayed with her for decades. The experience of nostalgia was further emphasized by the speaker's longing for the simpler pleasures of childhood, such as the blue and refreshing look of the swimming pool water. The episode ended with a humorous and thoughtful reflection on the importance of cherishing memories without trying to uncover every detail of them.

    • Nostalgia as a coping mechanism for past traumasNostalgia can help us find comfort in past experiences, even if they were painful at the time, and can serve as a way to cope with negative emotions.

Nostalgia can serve as a coping mechanism for past traumas or negative experiences, even if we didn't enjoy them at the time. The speaker expresses a deep longing for these experiences, despite their pain, and believes that nostalgia helps gloss over the associated pain in her brain. She plans to explore this phenomenon further, possibly through research on personality types or consulting a witch for new perspectives. The speaker also expresses a desire to have a friend on the podcast to discuss different types of friendships, but needs to work out some logistical issues first. Overall, the speaker is in a productive phase but struggles with periods of low energy and lack of motivation to solve the underlying cause of her slumps.

044: Fights, relationship check-ins & making it work long distance with Matt Cama & Kelley Bode

    Hi everyone!

I’m so excited to have my amazing boyfriend back on the show for this episode.

We recently got back to Bali after a 3-month trip in the US where he came to see where I’m from and meet my family for the first time (!!) after a period of being apart. We’re sitting down to talk about everything from what we did while long-distance to keep the connection alive between us, Matt’s experience in the US for the first time and meeting ALL of my family (jet lag included), living together for the first time in conditions neither we or our relationship have been used to, what we fight about, and all the way down to discovering each other’s annoying habits.

We’re even breaking down our most recent conflict and what we would do differently if we were to live that experience again.

Share, subscribe, & rate the podcast if you loved it!

    WHAT ELSE WE’RE TALKING ABOUT:

✹ Sleeping in separate bedrooms and what that means for each of us.

✹ Conflict and exactly how we define fighting in our relationship (and what we do whenever emotional conversations need to happen).

✹ Communicating what you want AND letting go of those expectations in relationships in order to get more of your needs met more often and avoid unnecessary fights.

✹ Build up of resentment and what happens when you don’t simply communicate your desires.

✹ The difference between masculine and feminine in the way that the feminine typically wants more intimacy and the masculine typically wants more space - and that this is actually such a good thing, and the key to polarity… and all of that fire!

✹ Our relationship check ins: what are they, and why do we do them (this is something many people have asked us about - workshop incoming!)

✹ The physical side effects of not speaking your truth.

We’re diving into motherhood, womanhood and all things personal growth this week as I chat with a former Dating for Love student of mine, Caitlin Lili! Caitlin since taking my course and completely transforming her life is now a coach who helps other moms like herself embody their radiance and trust their inner knowing, something she used to really struggle with. Who wouldn’t want to get in on a piece of that! She also tells me how her life took a major perspective shift by looking at her requirements for men and dating by turning them into feelings instead and dating outside of her usual preferences. She learned sooo much from just this and I can’t wait for you to hear all about it!

Caitlin and I also discuss the relationship between motherhood and womanhood and how we should never be ashamed to claim our sexual needs and wants as a woman just because we’re mothers. In the wise words of Caitlin “being a mom doesn't mean you don't wanna be f*cked!”. We reclaiming sexuality, freedom and trusting your inner knowing all while being the best mother you can be in this one, so moms, this one’s for you!

    • Unloading her fear of men and learning to accept and receive their attention
    • Recognizing that love doesn’t always have to be an instant passionate attraction but that love can grow over time into something really beautiful and long-lasting
    • That regardless of pushback, you should never feel stifled or put down for talking about YOUR truth. It’s yours, you can do whatever you want with it
    • How Caitlin claimed her desires by recognizing that her persona as a mother and as a woman were completely separate
    • That putting your needs first doesn’t mean you’re a bad mom and will actually improve your relationship with your kids
    • Throwing away the idea that men are annoying to ask for sex and intimacy. Isn’t that what we all want as women anyway?
    • How since Caitlin started trusting her inner knowing more her capacity to hold sensations in her body became so much bigger
