If you were asked the question, "Who is the world's smallest troublemaker?," what would you say? Would your response be something like, "my little brother," "my cat," or even "my 4'10" great aunt"? What if I told you that the world's smallest troublemaker lives within you? (You gasping..."Say what...?") Do you remember hearing the old announcement that went like this..."Elvis has left the building!" When Elvis' entourage would make this announcement, the audience would feel sad and disappointed because they knew that they now had no chance of meeting their favorite entertainer. Now, imagine what happens when God leaves because He is rejected by you, or you continue to surround yourself with the ways of the world (sin)? If you remember, where sin is present, Holy will not be present. And when God is not present there is nothing but darkness, a world full of brokenness and deceit. Without God's presence, people begin to feel lonely, heartbroken, lost, and vulnerable. Are allowing God to feel welcome in your life or are you slowly causing Him to depart because of your ways? Only you and God can truly answer that question. The title of today's teaching ("The Great Pretender") immediately reminds us of the Number 1 1955 hit by the Platters. But what Pastor Ben is really referring is to our study of the Book of James. James tells us how God looks deep into our hearts and KNOWS what we are, or rather, who we are. When we have faith, but not good works, are we living a life of saving faith? I agree with Pastor Ben…when I first heard the title of today’s teaching (“Can’t Buy Me Love”), my mind immediately reverted back to the old song by the Beatles. I almost grabbed my guitar and… On a serious note, in today’s teaching, Pastor Ben reminds us that money has nothing to do with how much God loves us. Our financial or materialistic riches mean absolutely nothing to God. The only riches that God sees in us is in our faith to Him. When our relationship with Jesus is constant, God sees the richness of our hearts. The more that we communicate with Him through prayer, the stronger our relationship with Jesus is. That’s what will get us in to Heaven, despite how much or how little money we have. Each of us is blessed with something different than our brothers. Collectively, it takes the union of every one of us to become one. Together we can help inspire others and bring others to Jesus. Jesus will do the rest of the work from there. Money can’t buy Jesus’ Love, money can only help take the gospel to the world to help give everyone the chance to experience God’s Love. Loving everyone is not always easy. However, Pastor Ben gives us a few key points that will help aid us to love one another as Jesus would… 1. In light of others through Jesus 2. Treat one another in light of grace 3. Treat others in light of God's word 4.
