    My Khanh Ngo is a 2017 graduate of Yale Law School and a 2013 graduate of Yale University (B.A. Political Science, International Studies).

    Let's Get Personal with Roshanna Toya, Attorney & Chief Justice of the Pueblo of Isleta Appellate Court

    Roshanna K. Toya is an enrolled member of the Pueblo of Isleta where she was born, raised, and resides today. She currently practices civil rights, criminal defense, and Indian law at Rothstein Donatelli in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Before going into private practice, Roshanna clerked for the New Mexico Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico. 

    Roshanna is also familiar with the internal workings of tribal governments as she has served her Pueblo as an associate justice for the Isleta Pueblo Appellate Court since 2013. She now serves the Pueblo as the Chief Justice of the Appellate Court. There she presides over cases related to probate, domestic relations, criminal law, employment law, and any other types of disputes that are appealed from the tribal court. 

    Roshanna is a 2005 graduate of New Mexico State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Criminal Justice. She also earned her Master of Criminal Justice and Master of Social Work from NMSU, and she is a 2019 graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Law

    Let's Get Personal with Elizabeth Elia and Serge Martinez, Professors of Law at the University of New Mexico School of Law and Co-Founders of the New Mexico Center for Housing Law (NMCHL)

    Serge Martinez is a Professor at UNM School of Law, where he teaches, writes and practices in the area of housing law, with a focus on the rights of renters and improving housing stability. He has served as Associate Dean for Experiential Learning since 2019, meaning he heads up all of the clinic and externship programs at the law school. In 2020, Serge also helped launch Amparo, a nonprofit that assists renters facing eviction and supports tenant organizing in Albuquerque. 

    Before joining the faculty at UNM, Serge taught at Hofstra University School of Law and National Taiwan University College of Law, and worked as a senior staff attorney at the Urban Justice Center's Community Development Project, where he represented tenants and tenant associations in New York City. Serge is a graduate of Yale Law School and Brigham Young University.

    Elizabeth Elia is an Associate Professor at UNM School of Law, where she Elizabeth teaches courses related to property law, land use, real estate development, renewable energy development, environmental law, poverty law and clinic. She is also an active participant in shaping housing policy in New Mexico at both the state and local levels. 

    ​Before moving to New Mexico in 2017, Elizabeth worked in D.C. as a transactional lawyer specializing in the development and preservation of affordable housing across the US and its territories and served on D.C.’s Affordable Housing Strikeforce. Elizabeth holds an LLM degree from Georgetown Law, a JD from American University Washington College of Law, and a BA from New College of Florida.

    Serge, Elizabeth and Allison (PJx co-host) recently founded the New Mexico Center for Housing Law (also known as NMCHL or CHL), a nonprofit dedicated to promoting housing stability and justice for people of the state of New Mexico.     Let's Get Personal with Megan Richardson and Lauren Myerscough-Mueller, Staff Attorneys at The Exoneration Project

    Lauren Myerscough-Mueller and Megan Richardson are both Staff Attorneys at the Exoneration Project, a non-profit based in Chicago, Illinois, which provides free legal services to fight for the wrongfully convicted and free the innocent. Since its founding in 2007, the Exoneration Project has exonerated more than 200 clients. 

    Prior to starting at the Exoneration Project, Lauren represented the wrongfully convicted at the Illinois Innocence Project, and practiced as a criminal defense attorney in the Chicago area, both as a private attorney and a state public defender. She has also been an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois Springfield and the Southern Illinois University School of Law. 

    Megan started her legal career at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP in New York, before becoming a Clinical Fellow in the Innocence Clinic at the University of Michigan Law School. In that position, she worked with students to represent the wrongfully convicted and co-taught a clinical seminar encompassing both substantive law and lawyering skills. 

    Lauren is a 2008 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis and a 2014 graduate of the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. And Megan is a 2008 graduate of the University of Michigan and a 2015 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School.
