"Next Voices" is a Be Loud podcast that listens to the next generation of students, leaders, and citizens here in New Orleans. 

In this episode, we talked with 8th graders from Bricolage Academy about what it means to grow up in their community and what they associate with being an American. The energy and enthusiasm of these 4 brave students really cemented the larger purpose of this project. Young people have a lot to say and we need to listen.

Big shout out to our new friends from Bricolage Academy and we are grateful for these students for joining us in the studio and to their teacher Té Smith for leading the way.

Every year, we partner with Lede New Orleans- an organization that equips emerging creatives with skills, tools and resources to transform how local media serves our communities.

For this episode, DJs connected with Lede fellows and learned more about their reporting on the impact of prison on our local community. With their help, DJs also heard from leaders FFLIC LA as they shared more about their work in transforming the systems that put children at risk of prisons.

Incredibly grateful to these two organizations for coming through to talk to Be Loud, inspire new questions and ideas, and to listen to what they had to say about their own experience.

It was an awesome conversation that covered everything from his day to day schedule to podcasting to how to deal with the hate. Super impressed by the energy and focus of the DJ crew and of course- big shout to JP Morrell for sitting down to talk with DJs about his life in and out of politics.

To start the show, DJ spent a beautiful Saturday morning recording @tremefest and interviewed the many different artists, musicians, and vendors that made this year's festival a huge success.

We are super impressed by Be Loud DJs. Pushing themselves to mic up and talk to someone new. Working on their interview skills. Making follow up connections. Chasing down second lines. Even figuring out how to record segment introduction in a bounce house.

These things are not easy and DJs show up every week to get better on and off the mic.

This month, we went on our first field trips of the year! First, Be Loud interview teen artists at the Young Artists Movement as they finalized their new mural. Then, we went to the Louisiana Children's Museum and recorded with families about their traditions. Grateful for both of these opportunities and big shout out to these community partners for pressing record with Be Loud DJs.

Welcome back! We are kicking off our third season of Be Loud Radio with our largest cohort of young DJs. For episode 1, you meet some of our new DJs and hear more about what they want to do this year on the mic. Also, we will check in with our community partners at 826 New Orleans, Rooted School, and Make it Count Math.

In this episode the Be Loud crew meets up with the Pass the Mic Fellowship for an awesome episode. Be Loud Studios is a nonprofit organization committed to amplifying kid confidence through radio production. Additionally, we facilitate a year long fellowship for local K-12 teachers that want to learn how to produce meaningful audio/radio/podcast projects with their classrooms.
