BT, a leading business telecommunications company, is committed to supporting businesses of all sizes and types, from startups to large corporations. Meanwhile, in the news, a 36-year-old man is due in court for the murder of a 14-year-old boy in London, and Labour Party has announced plans to reverse the illegal migration act and allow tens of thousands of migrants to enter the UK asylum system if they win the general election. The Refugee Council's CEO, Emfur Solomon, endorsed the plan, suggesting a multi-pronged approach to address illegal migration, including enforcement action, safe routes, and a deal with France. Today, polling stations open for local elections in England and Wales, with over 2,600 seats up for grabs. Additionally, Scotland's former deputy first minister, John Swinney, is expected to make a statement on his plans to lead the SNP.

    • Political tensions in Scotland and protests against Gaza conflict in US universitiesPolitical instability in Scotland, protests at US universities, postponed concerts, and the importance of health insurance remain constant themes.

Political tensions continue to rise in Scotland, with former finance minister Kate Forbes potentially challenging the current leader, but it might be wiser for her to wait until the next Holyrood election in 2026. Meanwhile, protests against the ongoing conflict in Gaza have spread to universities in the United States, with students demanding boycotts of companies and individuals linked to Israel. At the same time, in the UK, the opening of Manchester's Coop Live Arena was postponed for a third time due to unspecified issues, and Olivia Rodrigo's gigs were canceled. Despite the changes that may come in the next three years, one thing that remains constant is the need for health insurance. UnitedHealthcare TriTerm Medical plans offer flexible, budget-friendly coverage that lasts nearly three years in some states. 25 Years of Devolution: Susan Deacon

Susan Deacon was Labour MSP for Edinburgh East and Musselburgh (Constituency) from 1999 - 2007 and Scotland's first health minister. We spend more time with one of the stars of our live podcast recording event.

Calum, Andy and Susan discuss the 25-year anniversary of devolution in Scotland and reflects on the successes and challenges of the Scottish Parliament. We highlight the need for constructive reflection and improvement rather than getting stuck in nostalgia. We discuss the performative nature of politics, the unintended consequences of policies, and the lack of leadership and intellectual capacity in Scottish politics. They also emphasise the importance of engaging with wider civic society and fostering meaningful debate. The episode concludes with a discussion on the need to move away from comparing Scotland to England and instead benchmark against global peers. The conversation explores the challenges and shortcomings of the Scottish political system, particularly in relation to the media, healthcare, and candidate selection processes. It highlights the tendency for political discourse to focus on comparisons and not on addressing underlying issues. The conversation also discusses the need for decentralisation and regional leadership, as well as the importance of bringing in diverse expertise and allowing for independent thinking within political parties.

Does the UK take in more refugees than other European countries?

Does the UK take in more refugees than other European countries?

As the war in Ukraine continues, Reuters has reported that some 2.3 million people have been displaced. So far many of those have sought refuge in neighbouring countries. The UN estimates that as of the 8th of march Poland has taken in almost 1.3 million refugees, Hungary just over 200,000 and Slovakia almost 100,000.

In comparison the UK has issued visa’s to just under 1000 people. Some say this isn’t enough, however, Prime Minister Boris Johnson defended the governments record claiming that ‘"We've done more to resettle vulnerable people than any other European country since 2015." Sound familiar? Join us on a journey back to 2020 to find out whether this is accurate or just a repeated misleading claim.
