    About this Episode

Natasha’s passion for the western industry, ranching, and rodeo comes from a deep love of the Western Industry! She has experienced first hand the injuries that can result from the western way of life, having a horse accident that left her with a lot of obstacles to overcome from a broken back from the  L1-4,and the C6, Kidney damage, as well as a head injury. The doctor advised that her time riding horses was done, and to be grateful that she was alive, but Natasha wasn't going to accept that final outcome. So step by step, and win by win, Natasha taught herself how to walk again, to rebuild her physical strength, and grow her strong mental outlook!

Natasha has a resilience perspective from this accident and she carried that forward in everything that she does today and evolved into her love and passion for her now business McCann Athletic Therapy! “Having a better understand and empathy towards athletes that are getting on all of the time, getting beat up, and what they are dealing with gave me a better understanding of what they were going through and how I could help,” Natasha says (19:58 in episode)

Natasha and I talk about the rodeo road, and how her summer looks very similar to all of the cowboys and cowgirls that travel and Pro Rodeo. Her summer schedule is very similar to ours, because she is usually gone from June through August following the rodeo road and helping athletes with rehabilitation during the heat of the rodeo season.

Lindsay Keller | Writing Children’s Books | The Bell Mare Book Co.

Lindsay Keller | Writing Children’s Books | The Bell Mare Book Co.

The Bell Mare Book Co. is an amazing resource for children growing up and dreaming about wanting to be cowboys and cowgirls. They are truly providing educational material, picture books, color books, games, and now chapter books, for the kiddos in our western industry! Not only do they have children’s books but they also have a free monthly Cowkids Only Blog, and provides insight that can be applied to a young child learning the western way of life!

Writing a book that a young boy wants to read is a big challenge, but not one that Lindsay Keller couldn’t handle. Her young son Trig did not want to read what they had in the library, so she set out to write something that he would be interested in, and that led her to creating her first book, Short Go and the Junior Rodeo Trail! Lindsay and her mother, Marilyn set out to create and illustrate a book for her son to read, and to learn about the western way of life!

We hope our western children’s books inspire kids and parents alike to be their own kind of bell mare. And from two fellow cowgirl moms, thank you for all you do. Keep on truckin’ and raising those babies to grow up to be cowboys and cowgirls. The world needs more of them.

“It is a blessing to raise our children with horses, and their hands in the dirt,” Says Lindsay. If  you want to get these children's books in your home, you can shop all of their products online at https://www.thebellmarebookco.com/shop

Roping Futurities of America | Latricia Duke & Brent Lewis | Whats new in 2024

Roping Futurities of America | Latricia Duke & Brent Lewis | Whats new in 2024

Latricia Duke had a dream of putting together a roping futurity and through her knowledge and experience in the barrel racing horse industry, she wanted to highlight the amazing horses in the roping industry, and that became what we know now as Roping Futurities of America. This year Latricia teamed up with NFR Qualifier and Legendary Calf Roper Brent Lewis as a partner, to put together a new set of roping calves, and bring some fresh changes to the event!

The 2024 RFA has a NEW HOME, and this event will be held on March 27-30 in Waco, Texas at the Extraco Events Center! This event not only highlights the elite roping horses, but also the trainers, riders, owners, and every part of the process that goes into making a great roping horse! “I wanted to highlight everyone involved, and it is my dream to see these great roping horses, trainers, riders, and owners, get recognized for their talents,” says Duke. We want to create life before and after rodeo for the cowboys and horses, so that whatever phase you are in your career, beginning, middle, or winding down and staying closer to home that there is an avenue for the great cowboys and cowgirls in the industry to continue to showcase their talents and great horses. We want to see these horses that come through the RFA go to the NFR, and that is what our end goal is!

Roping Futurities of America was founded on the principle to ensure the prosperous future of rope horse trainers, owners and competitors; as well as promoting breeding of the next generation of rope horses.

Our inaugural event was hosted February 1-5, 2022 at Taylor Telecom Arena in Abilene, Texas. After its resounding success, paying out over $800,000, the second annual Roping Futurity Of America was quickly set in motion.

RFA comprises 3 main events - ladies breakaway roping, tie-down roping and team roping. Our event features the first ever Slot Futurity Ropings; including the 4-year-old futurity for breakaway, tie-down roping and heading & heeling horses, as well as a futurity and derby team roping.
