Steelers Depot's Alex Kozora joins the "Bleav in Steelers" show with host Mark Bergin to discuss the Pittsburgh Steelers' plan for the quarterback position in 2024.
Kozora believes Kenny Pickett will compete for the team's starting quarterback position with another veteran like Mason Rudolph or Ryan Tannehill. Pickett will likely get the first opportunity to start in 2024.
The guys discuss the role new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith will play in the development of the quarterback position.
They also talk about which teams the Steelers could potentially compete for in a trade for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields. Bergin explains why he doesn't think many teams want to trade for Fields, and how that could diminish what the Bears get in return for him.
The guys also talk about possible destinations for Kirk Cousins and Russell Wilson.
Next, the guys share some of the key standouts at the 2024 NFL Combine. The Steelers hold the 20th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Here are rookie players discussed who participated in the combine:
- Center: Jackson Powers-Johnson and Zach Frazier
- Wide receiver: Rome Odunze, Brian Thomas, Adonai Mitchell, Xavier Worthy, Tez Walker, Keon Coleman, Ladd McConkey
- Cornerback: Nate Wiggins, Quinyon Mitchell and Terrion Arnold
- Linebacker: Payton Wilson and Edgerrin Cooper
Kozora also discussed safeties due to become free agents, including Mike Edwards, Julian Blackmon and Kamren Curl.
Last, the guys shared whether they think the Steelers should pick up Najee Harris' fifth-year option, and how they could restructure Cameron Heyward's contract.
