    About this Episode

In this episode of The Austin Young Show, host Austin Young sits down with his brother, Hayden, a stand-up comedian. They discuss whether the world has lost its sense of humor, and Hayden shares stories from his travels around the world.

Austin and Hayden talk about how comedy has changed over the years, and how some people are now more easily offended than ever before. They also discuss the importance of being able to laugh at yourself, and how humor can be a powerful tool for coping with difficult situations.

Hayden shares his opinions about censorship and cancel culture, and he talks about how he has learned to navigate these challenges as a comedian. He also shares some of the funniest stories from his travels, including one about getting snuck onto a military base in Pakistan.

This episode is a must-listen for anyone who loves comedy, travel, or just a good conversation. Austin and Hayden are two of the funniest people you'll ever meet, and they have a lot of insights to share about the world.

    SHARPY

    SHARPY

It's not all doom and gloom, everyone; I have the Dallas doom metal band Sharpy in the studio. Kevin and Dillan explain the band's style and origins. We also discuss why Dillan got into music, and I also get an update on his band, Kopper Thief. If you're into independent doom music, then sit back as we play three of Sharpy's top tracks.

    I "Flipping" Love You!

    I "Flipping" Love You!

Ah, Valentines Day. A day for awkward first dates, overpriced chocolates, and, apparently, falling head over heels in love... with ska. Brace yourselves, ska-natics, because we're about to rewind to that love-drunk day with the one and only Flip from Flip & The Combined Effort!

Picture this: a microphone cradled in my nervous hands, a ska beat pulsing through the studio like a caffeine IV, and across from me... Flip. Not flipping burgers, mind you, but flipping the script on our understanding of ska's true depth. We're talking educators-turned-punk-rock-poets, dissecting the genre with more precision than a surgeon wielding a pogo stick.

Then came the real mic drop: Flip's insights into the ska scene's rising stars. He namedropped bands faster than a kid at a candy buffet, each pick more surprising than the last. Forget your run-of-the-mill two-tone, we're talking ska infused with punk, ska with a Latin twist, ska that could make your grandma skank (not that I'd recommend it, Nana).

So, tune in, skank out, and let Flip's words wash over you like a wave of checkered Vans. This interview's got more heart than a Hallmark greeting card and enough ska to fuel a thousand circle pits at Three Links. It's a love letter to the genre, a testament to its evolution, and a reminder that sometimes, the greatest love stories start with a wobbly skank and a slightly off-key trombone solo. Happy (belated) Valentine's Day, ska fans! Now go forth and spread the love, one pogo at a time.

(Disclaimer: Pogoing at your own risk. We are not responsible for any lost limbs, misplaced dignity, or sudden urges to learn the trumpet.)

    BOOF

    BOOF

It's not every day you sit down with a band and one of the members says, "Hey, remember that time we smoked meth out of a lightbulb?". Well, that's what you get with the self-described Riot Girl New Era hardcore band. BOOF is the savior the hardcore genre needs. A fast and brutal sound that breaks through all the toxic masculinity and gives a voice to the voiceless. If you live in the southeast United States, see BOOF on tour, where they scheduled the dates so it would be in the shape of a penis on the map. I'll play some songs off their brand new EP. Please don't forget to go buy their music and follow them at the links below.

    And The Winner Is...

    And The Winner Is...

We play some of the best artists up for the Dallas Entertainment Awards. We also decide to crown the true champion in a Coke vs. Pepsi challenge. We bring in my mother, Lisa, to be an impartial administrator for the challenge. I also give an acceptance speech and a losing speech for the award categories I was nominated in (our show was prerecorded, so we have zero clue who won). My mom, who was also Miss Illinois, gives her red carpet tips and tricks.

This is one award show you won't want to slap in the face.

    Prank Calling Toxic Madness

    Prank Calling Toxic Madness

Finally some answers! Buckle up for a new episode featuring Toxic Madness that's as explosive as their live shows. Aidan and DJ are in the hot seat today, spilling the tea on why Nelson, the former guitarist, decided to leave the band.

And in between the laughs and confessions, I'm throwing you a sonic feast of brand new Toxic Madness tracks. We've got riffs that are harder than a cheese grater on your knuckles, vocals that soar higher than a squirrel on meth, and beats that'll turn your living room into a mosh pit (furniture not included).

So crank up the volume, strap in for the ride, and let Toxic Madness take you on a journey fueled by laughter, music, and the occasional questionable prank call. I don't think Aidan has forgiven everyone for flying rather than drive with him to California.

Also make sure you listen to my first interview with Toxic Madness for this all to make a little more sense.

    We Are Scientists

    We Are Scientists

Kieth Murray and I sit down at the historic Club Dada in Deep Ellum, Texas. We discuss all things We Are Scientists, from why they used cats on the Love & Squalor album to hot tubs at Best Western Hotels to why the Lobes album is the best they have made to date. Guys, I'm beyond pumped to play awesome music from We Are Scientists and discuss their decades-long career. I want to thank Annette and Matthew from Spune Booking and Geoff from Club Dada for making this happen. I guess dreams do come true! Seriously, 15-year-old Austin is jumping up and down with excitement right now.
