The Party knows all. The Party sees all. After all, everyone knows that BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU. 

Oceania has been ran by the Party for a long time. They control everything. They control your food, your vices, your job, your words, and even your thoughts. Winston Smith has worked within the party for years, complacent as the rest of the people on this bleak landmass. Now, however... now, he is getting antsy. Now, Winston is looking for a change. Now, Winston Smith craves something he never had... Freedom. And that's when he decides to write his thoughts down.
